The official "let's impeach Trump" thread

The funniest part to me about whiney old people talking politics is y'all were around for Vietnam. right? HOW COULD YOU BE SHOCKED ABOUT ANYTHING AFTER THAT?? i swear as a 31 year old it feels like vietnam went over lotta these older peoples heads..

I was very much radicalized by the Vietnam War. So was my wife, lost a brother in Nam, and another brother had to bring his body home. She has refused to partake in our nation's political life ever since. Myself, I declined to vote in a presidential election for decades after. Until 2012. The election of Trump, a demagogue marshalling the basest instincts in his followers, made me realize something. Somehow, I still cared. I know what the rise of a hate filled demagogue can do to a nation. So, here I am, in my senior years, a member of the Resistance once more.

From the article:
I don’t oppose Mr. Trump because I think he’s going to lose to Hillary Clinton,” I told Ben from Purcellville, Virginia. “I think he will, but as I said, he may well win. My opposition to him is based on something completely different, which is, first, I think he is temperamentally unfit to be president. I think he’s erratic, I think he’s unprincipled, I think he’s unstable, and I think that he has a personality disorder; I think he’s obsessive. And at the end of the day, having served in the White House for seven years in three administrations and worked for three presidents, one closely, and read a lot of history, I think the main requirement for president of the United States … is temperament, and disposition … whether you have wisdom and judgment and prudence.”

I like the end of that paragraph best.
When im deciding who i want for president temperment and dispostion along with intelligence and how a candidate carries himself are at the top of my list. Trump fails at these characteristics worse than anyone.

Have any of you read the book “Our Better Angels” by Steven Pinker? It’s a fantastic read. He talks about how humans have become remarkably more moral and less violent over the past 400 years. Especially in the past 100 with so many reforms that have benefitted women, minorities, captured soldiers, etc. he refers to it as a type of revolution.

Sadly, it appears that many in trumpworld have missed this humanistic revolution. They seem like they’d be fine living 200 years ago enslaving different races. Or living 500 years ago when people were tortured for the almost inane reasons.

I hope our next president is a better human being than the current one. Shouldn’t be too hard. But why is the party of pro life so silent? Fixing our deadbeat congress is going to take years.
Last night at work I had the rare political/social discussion with a person I work closely with.

It started with him talking about a past employer who did not offer medical benefits (or really any benefits) reacting to his employees talking about unionizing by offering the people who stayed a couple extra dollars an hour. The guy telling the story was obviously the hero, because despite not getting any benefits he was able to get a $5/hr increase. He said he felt kind of bad taking advantage of the situation. My response was that I don't have any sympathy for employers in a nation where health insurance is primarily provided by employers who don't provide health insurance. He came back with how horrible it is in Canada. I said I've heard a mix of experiences, but that besides Canada the rest of the world doesn't base health coverage on employment, so I have no sympathy for employers in the U.S. (a nation whose health insurance is employment based) don't offer insurance.

He had a pretty killer comeback. First, he had been to Canada, and wait times were a big deal. Second, when I said but people there don't die from treatable illnesses because they are poor he said "maybe that's a good thing." I said, "We'll my family has been poor, should I have died because my family was poor?" He obfuscated, and then said that it'd be okay if some poor people died because we need less people. To that I suggested that in addition to letting people die due to not being able to afford insurance we should also do what China has done by limiting who can have children. He had a good laugh and said "see, we agree."

We then went on and he spouted off on various religions and I had to frequently correct him on the basics of the worlds most common religions. For instance We started talking about India and he dove into some ridiculous anti-islam anecdote about some weird *** muslim in a barber shop talking about how the U.S. needs to burn, and in the meantime shave my head to look like a [cat] and the guy was watching porn on his phone the whole time. I asked him, "So this guy was Hindi?" That was a real stumper for him. We eventually figured out that he was confused and thought we were talking about some other random country in the "middle east" where they're Muslims. I explained how India split into two nations, one majority Hindu, the other (Pakistan) the majority Muslim. That was a very interesting fact to him.

Somehow Buddhism came up. It came up with this guy explaining to me that Buddhists believe in Jesus and Moses and stuff, but also believe in their own prophets. I had to back him up a little and explain that the Muslims believe Jesus was a prophet, but that Muhammed was a more significant prophet. It was really confusing for him.

Just in case anyone is wondering, this guy is a Trump supporter.

Wow. I think I would have ended the conversation right there.

Trump's not going to be happy with this man. It sounds like the guy has integrity. The last thing Trump wants is officials who have integrity.

“The NWS Forecaster(s) corrected any public misunderstanding in an expert and timely way, as they should,” McLean wrote. “There followed, last Friday, an unsigned press release from ‘NOAA’ that inappropriately and incorrectly contradicted the NWS forecaster. My understanding is that this intervention to contradict the forecaster was not based on science but on external factors including reputation and appearance, or simply put, political.”

He also wrote that “the content of this press release is very concerning as it compromises the ability of NOAA to convey life-saving information necessary to avoid substantial and specific danger to public health and safety.”

“If the public cannot trust our information, or we debase our forecaster’s warnings and products, that specific danger arises,” McLean wrote.

As a result, McLean told his staff that “I am pursuing the potential violations of our NOAA Administrative Order on Scientific Integrity.”

“I have a responsibility to pursue these truths,” he added. “I will.”

no proof needed. Common sense. Everything is Trump's fault.

Trump is the monster under every child's bed, and behind every crack in the wall where the fabric of Time and Space is breaking. And there is no Dr. Who to fix everything, really. I mean REALLY.
Thanks Obama!

It's important to note that in that very article there are comments from the U.S. intelligence community who describe this story as "inaccurate" and damaging to U.S. intelligence efforts.

Asked for comment, Brittany Bramell, the CIA director of public affairs, told CNN: "CNN's narrative that the Central Intelligence Agency makes life-or-death decisions based on anything other than objective analysis and sound collection is simply false. Misguided speculation that the President's handling of our nation's most sensitive intelligence—which he has access to each and every day—drove an alleged exfiltration operation is inaccurate."

A spokesperson for Secretary of State Mike Pompeo declined to comment. White House press secretary Stephanie Grisham said, "CNN's reporting is not only incorrect, it has the potential to put lives in danger."

There were no comments from the intelligence community. There were two statements from PR departments.

The CIA PR Director didn’t say the story was inaccurate. She said the misguided speculation was inaccurate. Which could mean anything. I doubt she knows the real reasons for the extradition, she’s a mouthpiece. And from the White House we get mostly lies, so I dismiss that comment entirely.

Pompeo’s Silence says something as he would be the guy with direct knowledge of what drove this decision.

LOL did you think you really were gonna engage me in a debate here? LOLOL, y'all are just full of hot air.. pat yourself on the back. self-soothe, and keep on truckin. You're far too invested in this nonsense to stop now LOL.

People here like politics better than basketball, there's no doubt. thats sick. I love to call ya out on that, here on a basketball forum. They have much more pride about their poltical views than anything basketball related... The funny part isThats a perfect explanation why this thread is rthe most bumped of the offseason. and that is PATHETIC in my book, you've been duped, bamboozled..

Basketball is pure its like poetry in motion, Politics is old and stinky and putrid, and has been since before any of y'all were born.
