Monday 9/9 FIBA game thread

I know it’s just FIBA and it’s not a great indicator....but is it a little concerning Donovan—the guy we need to take a big step for championship hopes—has probably played the worst of our 3 guys in FIBA? I just have not at all felt like he’s looked like he’s taken that next big step. NBA game is obviously different, and Rudy and Joe have played in FIBA before, but Don hasn’t got to the free throw line, and his shot certainly hasn’t been great. He’s played great defense and done a decent job of getting assists and passing at times, but I’ve just felt he’s been a bit underwhelming from what I thought we might see, offensively anyway. The free throws have to come up, he barely shot his first two free throws of the entire tournament today.

i dont think his usage is very high, looks like they are keeping him off the ball mainly.

His usage should come down with Conley as well. I’m not saying he’s played bad overall, but if a player has taken that step to dominant even here I think it should be a bit more obvious. Obviously with the Jazz it will look different, but offensively he hasn’t looked that good. Between Bogie and Conley, his usage with the Jazz is also going to come down quite a bit I think. For the Jazz to be a title contending team, he’s going to have to take a noticeable step.

Well... he doesn't have to do too much for this team. He is playing as a facillitator too. Don't worry lol

Agreed, but with the new offensive talent on the Jazz, his usage is also going to come down here and he’s going to have to find a way to be successful with it. He’s still going to have to be dominant offensively if a championship is what we want. The Clippers are going to be a lot stiffer competition than Brazil. He’s not getting to the FT line and his 3’s haven’t looked very confident at all, he’s also hardly ever getting to the rim (NBA game is easier than FIBA in regards to this I know, but the talent level is significantly different as well). Idk, like he’s been solid in FIBA he just hasn’t been as noticeable as I expected with this Team USA roster.

i think you are over thinking this situation.

Conley had a lower usage rate than Rubio. There isn't going to be much of a difference there. He will touch the ball just as much. He'll just have more open lanes and others that can create and knock down shots.

Mitchell is the best player on the best team. Not sure what else you want.

Would you accept him taking a big defensive step? Or you need the best offesive player on the Jazz since Karl Malone to take a big offensive step in addition to the big defensive step?

Idk if he’s actually looked like the best player. Kemba and Brown have looked better. The top part I can agree with.

If a championship is the goal then yes you need both.

This is a whole different animal. Donovan has shown he has this ability in the actual NBA. Comparing that to a make-shift USA team doesn't hold a lot of weight. It may take a half season but Donovan won't be taking backseat to noone.

Yeah, my goal is not a Championship. I hope to just be able to pay my mortgage, keep my hourly job, have some good times and live to see the next decade. A secondary goal of mine is watching entertaining Utah Jazz Basketball.

I'm feeling pretty good about my secondary goal.

My God dude

Congrats to Australia. Man, Baynes hit 5 3's? WTF, he used to be terrible at shooting anything outside the paint.
