Bojan vs Hayward

Speaking of Bojan vs Hayward, did you all see the Bleacher Report list of top 50 players of all time?

Complete travesty that Matt Harpring didn't make the list. I mean seriously, what the heck are they even looking at? How are we supposed to take them seriously now?

Do you mean the top 50 All-Grit team?

Yea, he is definitely on that team. He used to play football after all, I'm not sure if you knew that.

Bojan 19/20 vs Hayward 16/17

Thoughts?

Yes, I have a few thoughts.
Thought 1:
Hayward abandoned the Jazz after the 16/17 season, so why in the hell is he still making the topics of discussion nearly 3 YEARS LATER?
Thought 2:
Hayward had been telling the Jazz that he wanted to remain with the Jazz even though their were obvious clues that wasn't his intent. (Wife put their baby in a green and white shamrock onesie and posted it on facebook 2 months before trade deadline.
Thought 3:
It's Gordon Hayward, why in the world are Jazz fanz so obsessed with this backstabber after 3 years?!! Just because he looks like a guy from your Ward doesn't mean he was one. He averaged 15.7 PPG while he was with the Jazz and he gets more love than Stockton, Malone, Dantley etc...................
Thought 4:
Bojan signed with us! He chose us over anyone! Yes money had something to do with it, but Hayward chose Millions of Dollars less to not play for the Jazz, but many have chose to support him to the point he's a topic after 3 years. I personally think that obsession with him is a little disgusting. After 3 years removed, I have to start questioning these weird fetish-like obsessions of Gordon Hayward.

He's not Wilt, MJ, LBJ, Stockton, Malone, Kareem or even close.
He's Gordon Hayward.
I wonder if Suns Fanz forums involve "Dan Majerle is God" posts every 5 threads. Or if GSW fans forums involve the fanz beating their chest about Mitch Richmond??
This is getting so weird and creepy. It's like Gordon Hayward fans have turned to Jazzfanz to post about their inter-most desires since Craigslist canceled their personals section.

I go to Youtube to watch Gordon Hayward break his leg in half at least every other day and replay it over and over again for my enjoyment. Ya'll are posting about a guy who sucked and hasn't played for the Jazz almost 3 years later!! I'm not judging you if your romantically in love with him (talking to you CY), but it's creepy and weird. Yes, when you pronounce your unconditional love for Gordon Hayward (who sucked, and did nothing for the Jazz and did us dirty) I have to ask myself questions.

We need to get over Hayward, but you watch him break his leg every other day? Ok.

Oh my. What a post. You call me creepy, weird, and obsessed, and then admit to watching him break his leg every other day? Are you sure you’re not the one with the fetish?

I can’t tell if your post is being sarcastic or not. If not, you need help.

Here’s my take, one last time.

Hayward chose to go to a bigger market. That sucks for us as Jazz fans but was well within his rights. I wish he would have given the Jazz the opportunity to trade him, but... oh well.

For me, the thing that hurt most is that the Jazz were building something. Dennis Lindsey always talked about “not skipping steps”. Well when Hayward left, it felt like the Jazz went back three steps (he may have only averaged 15ppg during his career with the Jazz, but that last year he was a legit All-Star.)

Fast forward 4 months after that fateful July 4th, and Donovan Mitchell saves the day. He helped the Jazz skip steps in their rebuild and filled in the holes Hayward left (at least for me, some people are still struggling to get over it, see Laker_Slapper’s post for an example.)

The question that has loomed for me is, what could the Jazz have done if Hayward stayed? Thabo and Crowder didn’t get It done. Sure I said Mitchell filled the holes Hayward left, but Mitchell only brought them back to a 4/5 seed. I trusted DL was building a championship roster and Hayward screwed him. Hayward/Gobert/Mitchell would have gone deeper in the playoffs. Who knows how far they would have gone???

Here’s the thing about Hayward though, I always felt like Hayward earned a max contact but he would be one of the worst max players in the league (even if he stayed healthy.) I felt like the Jazz had to offer the max to him, but it would hurt. It would take up too much salary space and limit the Jazz’s future options.

Looking back at that Hayward contract, I’m hopeful that Bojan at $17 million fills in so much better than Hayward at $27 (even if you create an alternate universe where Hayward signed with the Jazz, never got injured, and continued to get better.) I’m not ready to say Bojan is better than Hayward would have been, but I’m hoping he’ll be a better value and fill a lot of the role Hayward used to fill.

For years Jazz fans looked for someone to fill in when Horny left. Starks, Cheney, Lewis, etc. (no one did it.). I guess I’ve been looking for someone to fill in for Hayward.

I was hoping the discussion would go that direction, but it looks like it’s impossible for most Jazz fans to have a mature conversation about Hayward. Maybe I should have just PM’d Cy, cause he seems like he’s the only one who gets it.

Remove your emotions Laker_Slapper and let’s discuss.

Dawg you're dumb as hell for real.

I’ll take locker room and team chemistry as part of the argument. That pushes Hayward to a clear #2.

I haven't seen enough of Bogey to really say, but if their play-making ability is a basic push, I think Bogey's superior shooting is probably more of a plus over 82 games than Hayward's superior defense.
By any metric Bojan is much better defender. It’s crazy how overrated Haywards defense was on jazzfanz just because he had few highlight blocks. Yet as soon as you look at numbers he was very average defender at best.

He wasn’t close to anyone either. Teammates were always polite in the news, but we have better chemistry without him.

It’s not binary (problem or not a problem), it’s a scale. He simply didn’t build or promote chemistry.
