What's new

Blazers at Jazz tonight. 7 PM. Last game of preseason.

I was at the game, had Row 9 seats. Here's what I can say:
** Both Mitchell and Conley were playing at full speed. Lillard started out blazing, as did CJ McCollum. However, our guards matched theirs overall in the 1st half.
** Mitchell's offensive game has matured, and he's picking his spots and playing with more intention than he has in the past. He's not settling for floaters. He's also getting to the foul line. He matched Lillard's output in the first half, shot for shot, which is a really good sign. He was getting his legs under him on his 3-pt shots and made 4/5. He was pressing later in the game, which hurt his percentage a bit.
** I still don't think Rudy was going full speed. He made efforts here and there, but his energy level was actually pretty low for much of the game. It'll be interesting to see how much he conserves his energy during games.
** The Blazers are basically the same team they've always been. When both Lillard and McCollum go off for big nights, they're very, very difficult to beat. But if even one of them is having an off-night, they're going to struggle to score enough
** Our starting forwards, Royce and Bogdanovic, combined for a total of 8 pts. on 2/15 shooting. That's why we fell behind. Not only did Bogdanovic not hit a shot, he didn't grab a rebound either. Sorry, but we just can't have that kind of lack of production from the forward spots. I can see why the Jazz are letting Bogdanovic play through this, but he's just off, and his effort wasn't great either.
** Mudiay can overpower other PGs and get downhill. He's able to make reads a bit and finish at the rim. He gives us a potential mismatch with the 2nd unit, so don't be surprised if we go to it quite a bit.

All that tosh and nothing about Joe? Off the bench or starting?

Can you imagine how excited the Exum homers would be if he’d had the same game Mudiay had? He was just super in control and looks like he can get anywhere he wants when guarded by smaller pgs. I’m getting my expectations up too high.

Our starters got abused but part of that comes from our forwards not being able to throw it in the ocean. Our scrubs were better than the Blazers scrubs. One thing it seems on the defensive end we are not getting a lot of steals or blocked shots. Tonight San Antonio had 8 and I think we had 3. San Antone put a whipping on the Rockets tonight. I know it's preseason but I'm concerned that in 3 of the 4 games our starters go lit up. I know a lot of that lies at the feet of Bogey but it is still concerning.

Me too. I think he could be like the reborn version of Tyreke Evans....before the cocaine episodes. He had a pretty easy 12 pts and 6 assists tonight.

I am an Exum homer. I’m rooting for the kid. And as Mudiay was making drives left and right my thoughts were ut oh Exum you just lost a bunch of playing time....

The only knock on the kid is that he has hops like Ostertag.

I saw progress however. He received a pass in the key which he didn't throw up for a lay up, he went up there with 2 hands and stuffed that thing. Nice to see.

The jazz can't win a game. And guess what Dante isn't playing. So what's the issue? It looks like the jazz need Dante to win some games.
