I've noticed that I am not the only one who has been disappointed with Ed Davis. He has absolutely no offensive game and while he can rebound, he's not very strong and not a great rim protector.

Do others feel that maybe Ekpe would be a better option. Based on what I've seen of Davis, Ekpe is not only better offensively, but far superior on the defensive end, adding another rim protector to Rudy, especially if Rudy has foul trouble or is injured. In fact, Ekpe is nearly the equal of Rudy as a shot blocker.

Thoughts?

I’ve always though Ekpe was underrated and, if given the condition of having an offensively gifted four, Ekpe would be a very good backup center. That said, he and Davis are very different. When our defense gets structured, Davis won’t shine visually, but when you look at how much he adds in value through extra possessions by being such a huge outlier on the rebounding scale (I’d assume he’s >2 standard deviations above the mean for centers with regard to rebounding). The real question is Udoh vs. Bradley and, despite Bradley’s nice pre-season, I like the versatility Udoh would give us, especially as we can surround him with shooters/scorers.

But don’t mistake Udoh for being better than Davis offensively — they’re both equally terrible.

Ed Davis doesn't go from being the best backup center in the league to worse than a player who barely played in the NBA last year.

Ed Davis is much better, 5 games in a new system with different rotations and new players to play with would throw off most players. Give it 15 games, holy crap.

Udoh better than Davis offensively?. C'mon. Both are terrible but you are forgetting how bad Udoh was. He had zero offensive skills: awful hands, no dunking ability, no touch around the rim. Nothing. At least Davis will give you some putbacks and dunks. Defensevely, it's a toss. Davis is more mobile but Udoh was stronger and pretty good protecting the rim.

Now this is a panicked thread that hasnt been thought out much... Ed Davis shot 62% from the field last season in a 1440minute samplesize.

In any season Udoh played more than 1000 minutes (few and far between) he shot no higher than 43%

Its like people wanna award style points here or something... Dont you understand thats the reason why Udoh was overdrafted in the first place? because there were delusions of grandeaur bout his offensive game, that have since proven to be simply style point type of stuff that doesnt translate..

If utah crashes and burns this season, i guarantee it wont be because of Ed Davis, who's been consistently solid everywehre hes gone, which is a lot of spots

the primary reason why Ed davis was signed, why any team would sign ed davis, is his OFFENSIVE REBOUNDING, and Ekpe Udoh isnt remotely on his level in that aspect.

If the question is trading Udoh for Davis, I'll go with plan "C," rolling with Bradley.

I don't think Ed is used to being in an offense that moves the ball around as much The Jazz do.

Whenever he gets the ball more than 2 feet away from the rim he almost looks surprised.

I have no doubt he'll find his way. When Ingles, Green and Davis get on the same page, this will be the just about the best second unit in the league.

Davis over udoh but I actually would like to see Bradley over Davis as the backup 5

Udoh although his terrible hands make him even worse on offense. Defensively I think he’s much better than Ed from what I’ve seen.

I want to give it 20 games with Davis though. There is going to be a game or two where his offensive rebounding makes a huge difference. Hopefully the defense improves with him out there.

Both guys are super pros and that is great.

this... we let our bigs handle a lot up there. Wonder what the offense would look like with an elite passing big.

Ekpe is the better rim protector and could guard the switches. Ed Davis in PnR defense this preseason looked way too slow.

Ekpe was also the better passer, more accuracy on his short roll passes to corner but Ed Davis is a willing passer too.

You're basing this off of 5 preseason games. Udoh isnt nba talent, the proof of that is that he isnt in the league.

Some people are terrible at judging talent

Funny, I was just thinking recently that it s a pitty he is gone. He is great defender and being given how much we gained on the offense it would be good to have him. Davis hasn't looked good on D in the preseason, hopefully it will change as the season starts and everybody will start giving 100 percent effort.
