The Royce O'Neale Thread

Really? What are you in the first grade? I work at an at-risk inner city school because I'm the antithesis of a racist dummy. The comment has to do with social dynamics in a Lilly white Trumpian state. Both are similar NBA Cinderella stories except: in 2017 Ingles signed a four year 52 million dollar contract (14 mil just added for an additional year) whereas that same year O'Neale signed a three year four million dollar contract which has yet to be extended. Even before that in his leanest two years with the Jazz, Ingles was making 2.5 per. Watched Ingles opening announcements on opening night, he's like the Angel Maroni up there. Sorry but in my "racist" eyes, O'Neale is the more valuable player.

This is one of the worst posts I've seen on here in a long time. Joe's first year with the Jazz he only made half a million whereas Royce made $815,600. Comparing the contracts the two signed in 2017 is just stupid, Joe was coming off a great season where he was our sixth man part of the year and a starter much of the year, he finished the year like 3rd or 4th in the entire NBA in 3 point percentage. He earned that $52 million contract and has more than lived up to it. Royce was still an unknown at that point and was in a battle with Bolomboy just to make the roster. How much did you really expect them to give an undrafted guy that had been playing overseas? Royce has improved every season and I'm sure the Jazz are going to give him a huge raise on his next contract just like they did Joe. I also don't see the problem with Joe being the one addressing the crowd on opening night, he's one of our longest tenured players and one of the leaders on the team.

To suggest that the Jazz pay players more or less based on race is just ridiculous. Did you see the contracts they signed Favors and Exum to a couple of off-seasons ago? They went far over both players market value. It could be argued that the Jazz are overly loyal at times and maybe re-sign their own guys to bigger contracts than necessary, but the players race has absolutely nothing to do with it.

And they were going to offer Hayward the max. Even more than he got from Boston

No way, you can't be serious. Rudy may have had half the points, but his 14 boards and keeping OKC from the paint was huge, as is shown by his team high +13. Royce was good and needed, but didn't have the same impact.
Also 14 screen assists for 29 points.

I think you are underestimating what Royce did on defense too

I imagine both were league minimum at the time. And how in the hell does that explain why Royce is still making just over a mil a year while Ingles pulls down fourteen, three years after their contract extensions of 2017? And the fact that they're more concerned in signing Ingles to an additional year than extending O'Neale's measly contract. Is Ingles over ten times the player that Royce is? Give me a break. Royce is an elite player, has been much more consistent and much more valuable than Ingles on a nightly basis and Ingles gets the fourteen mil extension on top of his already bloated contract while Royce barely gets the recognition he deserves.

Hayward being overvalued in Utah is just another example. I think that Hayward's bloated contract and his bromance with Stevens has a lot to do with the mass exodus over there. Players pay attention to what other players are getting and the fact that Royce is not making 8 figures a year when Ingles is, is a travesty.

So you realize that we signed Royce to a three year deal, right? And they did this before they knew if they were cutting him or Bolomboy. As in, you can’t even make a comparison. If the Jazz end up not paying Royce, then maybe revisit your discussion when a comparison could (sort of) be made.

You may as well question why the Jazz pull out a big contract for our mulatto center while we only pay our young black star a couple million per year.

Yeah, and they could have extended him anytime in the last three years. Mulatto? Really???? Who even uses that term?

Uh, because Royce's contract hasn't expired yet. He'll get a huge raise on his next contract...this isn't complicated. Why the hell do you think Donovan's still only making 3.6 million? Royce is an elite player? On what planet? Rudy is probably the only elite player on the team, with Donovan definitely not far behind. "Royce has been much more consistent and much more valuable than Ingles on a nightly basis" o_O Royce's stats in his two seasons with the Jazz: 5.1 points, 1.4 assists, 3.5 rebounds, 0.6 steals, 44.9% shooting, 37.1 3% from 3, 53.5 effective field goal percentage. Ingles last two seasons: 11.8 points, 5.3 assists, 4.1 rebounds, 1.1 steals, 45.8% shooting, 41.5% from 3, 58.7 effective field goal percentage.

Royce is able to do what he does because of Rudy. The entire Jazz defensive scheme is built around Rudy. Royce does a good job taking advantage of it, but he doesn’t impact the game like Rudy.

Just another example of people not valuing Rudy’s impact on a game.

Royce was great, Rudy was better.

So have we decided if Royce is a valued member of the team or the shoe shine boy yet? Seriously one of the most ridiculous arguments I've ever seen in this joint.

Career - Royce Pts - 5.2, TRB - 3.5, FG% - 45.7, 3% - 37.8, FT 78.8. Joe Pts - 8.0, TRB - 3.1, FG%- 44.7, 3% - 40.8, FT - 74.1.

They seem pretty even to me and that's not even considering defense where O'Neale really flourishes. Considering that they have totally different roles and Joe controls the ball a lot more, assists are naturally going to favor Ingles. Stats are one thing but O'Neale is more clutch - better in big game situations. And your argument concerning our superstar, Mitchell is not valid because everybody knows he's getting max - different set of rules. My argument stands, O'Neale's measly contract should have been extended before Ingle's bloated contract with an extra year left on it!
