What's new

Jazz are soft.

This, and we had one. His name was Derrick Favors. It is astonishing to me how much worse our team is without him. Without him Ingles looks completely lost. Without him Gobert is asked to do too much. The decision to swap him for Conley (I know that wasn't the trade, but in essence, that's what we got instead), is proving absolutely disastrous. We are lottery bound.

We got off to a worse start than this every single season Favors was here.

"The Jazz need a big, athletic, mean mofo who really rebounds, defends and intimidates people a bit. Like the artist formerly known as Ron Artest. Then you can play Conley, Mitchell, Bojan and Gobert at the other 4 spots."

Favors is a 5. You can't put him on the floor with Gobert without killing our spacing. These youngbloods like Brantley and Juwan Morgan could be heading in the right direction.

you think more effort is gonna help make someone like Niang guard Lebron or AD?

No but we can defend them as a team but at the same time I don't think our roster is right either, Davis isn't gonna cut it at the 5. Green has been a massive disappointment, Conley is representing terrible value at 31 million as well.

This is about the poor roster construction. I was happy when Utah signed MCJ and Bojan in the offseason but kept wondering when they'd add a PF as their roster had none.

Gobert might be a maniac but he's human after all. You can't expect him to cover everyone's defensive lapses every time, set numerous screens , average 20 rpg and operate in the paint putting constant pressure on opposing defenses. Or play 38 minutes ffs. Of course he'll get injured.

That and he's rolling to the basket and is wide open but isn't given the ball.

I think it’s pretty clear they’re also starting not to like each other very much.
Rubio was the glue guy who everyone liked. You couldn't dislike him. That gave everyone something they all had in common. Without him, that common bond is gone.

I hate to say it but watching this team I sometimes have flashbacks to the Boozer/Okur Jazz teams.

By that I mean a very talented team that only plays hard in flashes, they only work together in flashes - they'll turn up the pressure on D for a couple of minutes and then play lazy for the rest of the quarter. In every facet of the game you're not getting a consistent effort.

The question is, is this just who they are (soft) or is it a combination of other factors - tough schedule, uneven schedule (crazy travel miles) new pieces, lack of practice time.

I have no reason to be over optimistic but I think it's the latter - I guess we'll see soon enough.

I hope Quin busts out a plate of glass and starts doing lines next game they play like such a group of *******.

Favors was the consummate teammate as well.

I’ll never forget how the game after Rudy accidentally cursed during a post-game interview with KK (kinda bringing a public shame in a place like Utah), Favors video-bombed the next interview and cursed as well. It was a very intentional “if you, then me too” moment. Connected.

I hadn't heard that. Thanks.
Totally makes sense with what we all know and love about favors.

It’s starting to be very arguable that the jazz should have done the necessary cap gymnastics to keep Rubio and Favors + acquire Bojan. Rubio and Favors has their downsides, but the acquisition of Bojan could have provided enough space to move our offense up into the top-10 in efficiency while creating several different 4-out combos. Bleh, whatever. ****.

For me, Conley has about 15 more games. After that, it’ll be hard to avoid the feeling like he might be the undoing of this entire phase of the organization. It sounds stark, but the math and assets speak for themselves.

We have to try our very best to move past this
