What's new

August 20:Big Match Turkey&Germany-Enes Kanter&Dirk Nowitzki match is starting now:) live Link here

That's unfair. Here are the possessions with him in at the end:

Enters with 2:14 remaining, 64-48 Germany, Turkey with the ball.

1. Turkey - Enes draws a foul, then another Turkish player draws a foul, hits 1-2 free throws, 64-49.

2. Germany - Kanter strips ball on post pass, Turkey recovers ball, TO.

3. Turkey - Kanter draws foul in post, hits 2-2 free throws, 64-51.

4. Germany - Missed jumper, rebound Kanter.

5. Turkey - Missed jumper, Kanter keeps ball alive, recovered by Germany.

6. Germany - Missed Jumper.

7. Turkey - Kanter runs floor well, gets good position, passed to in post, draws shooting foul, hits 1-2 free throws, 64-52.

8. Germany - Runs out clock.

Kanter was in on every possession on defense- playing good D, stripping the ball on one possession, grabbing a rebound on another- and offense- drawing 3 fouls, hitting 3 free throws, nearly grabbing an offensive board.

These last two games (the games I've been able to watch), Kanter has easily been the best player for Turkey. In this game, Turkey outscored Germany by 4 with Kanter in the game, and were outscored by Germany by 16 with him on the bench. Dude looks good.

Outstanding. Repped.

Seponal I beg you not to judge Kanter on what he does with turkey. His team actually plays keep away from him.

im going to start a holy jihad war against turkish coach Orhun Ene
His rotations are awful. Maybe he's not trying to win yet, since these games don't count(?).

As Cyrone said above, Asik-Kanter-Ilyasova should be playing 30+ minutes, as they seem to be the only players who attack the basket, rebound and play defense (even though Ilyasova didn't shoot well this game). Akyol and Hedo are clueless, it seems. Does Turkey have no decent guards?

So, how did Kanter stack up in points and boards against the other top performers?

(Numbers adjusted to 40 minutes of play, for each player .. and keep in mind that ENES was not looked for on offense)

Nowitzki - 27.9 / 9.9
Asik - 15.8 / 11.9
Ilyasova - 14.2 / 12.4
Turkoglu - 10.7 / 3.0
Kanter - 36.3 / 12.1

i really dont know what the hell is wrong wiht our guards, they normaly do much better than this.about Hedo,he allways sucks at pre-games,dont epect much from him untill eurobasket.

Kerem Tunceri is a good pg but he didnt take much time since its prep games, also omer onan, starting sg is not bad, a good defender and makes 3s, like bruce bowen. But other than that we dont really have good guards. Emir Preldzic is good and can play SG imo. But coach doesnt try that option

Also, once again, big thanks to the Turkish posters who provided links to these games.

I still have two big concerns with Kanter:

1. Can he pass the basketball? I'm not sure I've seen him pass the ball once after receiving the ball in the post.

2. Although he's very willing to set screens, he doesn't always do a very good job. He should spend some time working with Omer Asik, who has been absolutely amazing in PnR situations these last two games. Very fun to watch.

+1

I hadn't seen Asik play very much (I may have seen him in spot minutes for the Bulls last year) before yesterday. His dives to the basket and hammer dunks are really fun to watch, and I was surprised how crafty he is with his back to the basket. I wouldn't be surprised if he supplants Boozer in the Bulls' rotations sometime in the next couple years (although his free throw shooting looks pretty bad, and his skill set duplicates Joakim Noah's more than a little bit).

besides horrible turkish team (coaching) Kanter looks good, i havnt seen all his minutes but what i saw makes me happier that we take him at 3rd pick.

Kid can rebound no doubt:), he doesnt have Rodman rebound killing instinct but looks like he has luck around the rim and can play there.
Enes has willingness at defence:) , a lot room to improve at NBA level, but no Boozer sleepness and careless.
Corbin and Jazz offence will make him double-double man that's for sure.

with Portland's already good team, OKC sensation, LAL and MAVS, Clipps Suns Warrs and Pop spur WE HAVE to be PATIENT for few years.

I've seen Kanter more than most and come to think of it, don't ever recall seeing much passing. His screening will be fine, fast, just rust imo. The passing, though, probably is something he needs to get coached up.

I ask this in all seriousness. Is there the potential that the coach is not playing these guys as much because he/the country views these guys as jumping the Turkish bandwagon by going to the NBA? I doubt it. Why play them at all then? But the thought crossed my mind that maybe he's playing those he sees as his true countrymen.

Perhaps Kanter isn't passing because he knows that the Turkey guards won't pass it back. I think both defense and passing can be coached so I am not concerned. Besides he will be playing with more talented players in the NBA. I think the kid is going to be good because he plays hard, has talent and seems to want to get better. I just wish the NBA would get their crap together and sign a CBA so there would be some basketball.

Hedo? I think hes just insisting on playing veterans for whatever reason, or perhaps as someone mentioned, simply lineup testing. If hes smart he'll realize the impact players like Ilyasova, Kanter and Asik had on this game and will play them together in the Eurobasket. These games are meaningless, after all. I mean the Turkish coach cant possibly be THAT stupid, I haven't coached a lick of basketball and I am noticing this, I am expecting him to see it as well. Quite frankly I cannot wait till the actual tournie starts, we'll see how the coach performs legitmately then.

Man I hate to be Orlando right now holding on to Hedo's contract. He looks just terrible. He was always lazy but now he just can't turn it on when he wants to. I agree that perhaps starting Emir Preldzic instead of him or at least giving him the quality minutes would be better for Turkey. Tunceri-Preldzic-Ilyasova-Asik-Kanter is perhaps Turkey's most productive five. Also it is interesting that with Arslan playing like crap, the coach is not thinking of Balbay more. He seems to be the energizer that Turkey might need. So he can't score, which one of Turkey's point guards can? Also this team could really use a healthy Okur. Playing next to Kanter, Asik or Erden would be a great combination of inside-outside and raise Turkey's point production by about 15 points per game.
