What's new

Why I am now a converted big believer in this trade

Honestly if we snagged Carroll, and he was rejuvenated here, as well as Faried or Noah, I think we’d have an outside shot at a title this year. We’d need to be fully healthy and need some luck, but it could happen.

I think this trade is really good. Going to be fascinating to see the Mudiay/Clarkson work out. I’d think Mudiay is gonna have to take more of a facilitator/ second fiddle role to Clarkson scoring wise ??

We won this trade no doubt. I suspect that this trade is basically a giveback to DL's overpay on KK's deal a year ago. We are basically seeing two buddies helping each other out
You can go back further than that. We made a trade with them many years ago - JLIII + non-guaranteed filler for Carrick Felix + cash - which helped the Cavs trade for Kevin Love.

And if you're wondering what happened to Felix, we cut him to sign some old dude from Australia. Ironically, Felix went on to finish his career in Australia.

Kind of off topic but Lou Williams career trajectory is kind of wild. Can anyone think of another example of a player who didn't become a 20ppg guy until his 13th season?

Cavs fan and NBA fanatic. As mentioned by the author. The man can flat out score. Made nearly half his shots inside the arc over his career and per 36 has him over 20 plus per game for years now. Scoring isn't an issue but defense is.

He needs players that can cover some of this liability and Utah being one of the better defensive teams leads me to believe that Clarkson can be successful here.

One other thing is he has been very durable. Playing 80 plus games a year is the norm.

If used properly this can turn out very successful. I had Utah before the trade as one of a few teams Clarkson could be useful.

Agreed. I think either Carroll or Faried is the real answer staring the Jazz right in the face.

You could trade NWG, Mudiay, and Bradley for Carroll. Then you’ve got two roster spots to go shopping. Or, if you had an immediate answer for center, could send Davis and someone else.

I liked the prospects of signing Jamal Crawford in the offseason. He would have been very cheap and could have delivered the scoring acumen to win a few games by sparking the bench. Jordan Clarkson is definitely a Jamal Crawford Syth in training but he isn't Darth Lou Williams yet. Can he become passable on defense enough to justify minutes? I think so. Because of that, I believe that he will be a stellar pickup.

Also, I had no faith in Exum at this stage so we used our trade chip to get a scorer instead of a big man. Is that the best option? Time will tell, but I am excited to see us really open up teams with our second team again. Hopefully they get Jordan Clarkson up to speed.

Finally, this reminds me of the Kyle Korver pickup. He wasn't the perfect fit on paper. There were lots of questions. But he really sparked our team to a huge end of the season run.

I don't know how much Carrol can really help at this point. I know salaries don't work but in my dream land The Spurs should just give us Rudy Gay for ED Davis and the rights to the greatest power forward of all time title.

NWG, Niang and Bradley aren’t even enough. I think we’d have to hope Carroll asks to be waived (I could see that) and that we then sign him somehow.

Carroll is old. Not the same player he was with the Jazz and Hawks. DL would not do that trade.

Three games in and the OP is looking good. The problem of “fit with Mudiay” will be resolved when Conley comes back and we tighten the rotation. Also he’s not a defensive sieve.

People have an obsession with ex-Jazz players, believing they're the same players they were when they left. Hell, we should just release Conley and sign Deron to a vet-minimum deal. He'd be the perfect fit beside Mitchell as a big PG who can hit 3's.

I question the fit big time. To me, Clarkson doesn’t fit with what the Jazz have been striving for.

Have the Jazz lost any games since the Clarkson joined the team ? If fit were questionable, it would be reasonable to assume that it would have had enough impact to add some losses over the last 9 games.
