What's new

TMZ reports that Kobe Bryant passed away.

The NBA needs to cancel the games. He was a huge part of the legacy of this league. Top 5 in the history of the game. Be respectful to him and his family.

I'm stunned the league is playing games today, TBH. Not sure how anyone out there is in the frame of mind to do so.

I tend to a agree. Watching the typical manufactured fanfare BS, team mascots and the dancers during The Spurs -Raptors game.

Seems a bit distasteful.

I like how even the broadcast of a game taking place in Denver apparently isn't the correct place to mention that we're mourning a man who was charged with rape and never acquitted of it, either criminally or civilly.

I know that almost everyone is calling for the NBA to cancel todays games and I completely understand it. I expect they'll probably reschedule the later games.

But expecting them to cancel everything this quick isn't very logical. You have to realize a lot of people in the league office are probably shook by this too. They are trying to process this like everyone else. Meanwhile they probably realize that they can't outright cancel games because it would screw up the entire season. Certain teams would have played one more game than other teams. It would mess up the playoffs. They are probably going through the logistics of rescheduling all of games with the teams involved.

None of us will ever know exactly what happened in that instance. But even if the worst possible interpretation of that story is correct, do yourself a favor to step back and look at the big picture. I hated Kobe because he was so ****ing amazing. And anyone who has paid any attention knows that his "amazing" goes far beyond the basketball court. Mad respect for Kobe.

I have a pretty good feeling what happened. Powerful men sexually abuse and take advantage of women with little or no power all the time. It's not some controversial idea. Most of them get away with it. That's also not a novel concept.

RIP Mamba!

This pretty bad news for the us fans and the league. However, it'll also inspire the Lakers even more this year to win the title.

A tragic event. He was a great player, and his daughter had her whole life ahead of her. My condolences to his family.

Maybe you know more about what happened than I do (that wouldn't surprise me). Or maybe it didn't really go down in the way you are saying. Either way, there's a lot more to the story of Kobe than this one chapter, and it's okay for people to celebrate the positive in a moment like this.
