2020 NBA trade deadline discussion

Wasn't he saying exact same thing before we traded for Clarkson? I have hard time believing that Cleveland called asking for Exum, I think it was our call.
IDK but I do think Cleveland knew we’d do a deal like that and the timing may have been on them a little... they wanted more PT for Garland and Sexton.

I just don’t like the idea that we don’t have big upgrade opportunities... the TB Niang frontcourt doesn’t work especially combined with our small guards on the second unit.

The cupboard is empty. The well is dry. The cow has no more milk. I wonder how many idioms there are that describe the dearth of jazz assets.
There will be deals where all that changes hands is salary and second round picks... we have some of that. They don’t come until teams settle and there very well may not be the right kind of deals out there. In years past there have been deals that would have made sense and we could have met the asking price but other teams got them done.

Random Thoughts:

I expect us to trade Davis for a 2nd and sign a PF/C who can play defense.

Who is expected to be bought out? Names I see are Evan Turner, Waiters, Thompson, MKG....

I'm going to be pissed if Thompson signs with the Rockets.

I think Thompson gets moved or stays in Cleveland... its his best chance to get paid next year. Waiters won't be bought out... has another year on his deal.

John Henson in Cleveland is one to watch. Marvin Williams, and maybe Moe Harkless if he is traded to the Knicks and doesn't want to hang around. I wonder if Phoenix buys out Tyler Johnson... not a good fit for us really. Udoh, Noah, Bogut are also out there.

I wouldn't mind Marvin at all.

DL is so much better of a GM than KOC that it's not even funny. I actually fault KOC for giving DL a lot of his passivity and course-staying. Perhaps you're not remembering KOC bringing back the exact same flawed team three years in a row to get bounced by the Lakers in the post-season in successively less games each year.
KOC re-tooling instead of rebuilding was my issue. The Al Jefferson years were amongst the saddest in Jazz history. I understood trying it when Deron was still around but once you traded Deron it was time to tank the effs outta this B. There was like 2.5 years we hung out on the treadmill for no reason.

But making the playoffs and getting swept by the Spurs gave good experience for our young guys. Oh, wait...

Listening to Locke... not real encouraging that we get something done... literally said with our assets we can’t pick up the phone... we are waiting for calls... I’m sure that’s not how it really works but I don’t think we are shaking things down like we should. Keeps saying upgrading TB is only like 8-10 minutes a night in the playoffs so not sure how much it matters... so when margins become thinnest we aren’t sure an upgrade is worth it... if it saves one playoff game it can swing a series. I’m now fully prepared for a super meh deadline.

Locke always tries to dampen people's expectations. It's part of his job.

He's usually a little pessimistic about deals happening, but he does seem to relay some of the feeling/sentiment of the front office... don't think he does damage control or is some organizational puppet.
