Jazz @ Rockets 5:00 PM MT Game Thread

The one sobering fact from last night is the Jazz collapse in the last minute until Bogey's 3 pointer. It looks like we have a comfortable lead and then Spida misses a 3 and the Rockets hit two threes.

I'm sad I missed this one... I'm hoping we see more Juwan minutes... wanting to see if his +11 was fluky or if he is doing good stuff out there.

Super fluky as he played like 3 minutes and all were during the minivan attack. His second stint he played better D. Hope to see more.
I like him a lot... I think he will be one of those guys that does under the radar things that help you win. Maybe. Mostly just want to see if any of these guys are definite keepers for next year.

Symphony to my ears. There is no point to a switching defense if your man can't stay in front of his switch. Jazz just ran the Clarkson/Conley show last night. Attacked the switch before it even happened/exploited it when it did against a mismatch. Quick decisions, no hesitation to allow the defense to recover. Something we couldn't do with last year's personnel (Joe, Bogie and Rudy have a harder time creating/getting involved though). Watch 0:16, 0:22, 0:38, 0:50, 1:05, 1:43, etc

We need bigger emphasis on perimeter defense and on chemistry on offense, particularly between Conley/Gobert and Joe.

Has anyone read Tony Jones last article? I think he talks about finally being able to beat the Rocket's defense.

Rewatching the game winner it looks like the Houston players actually straighen him out by bumping into him as he is in mid-jump. Because of this, they help his shot arc go more on target with the hoop and ultimately through it.

What ever works I guess!

I remember. He and Jeff Monaco. Only time SUU made it into the NCAA tourney. House could jump out of the building.

All I could find of him.

Fred House, Eddie Gill, Herald the Show Arceneaux, Alex Jensen, Hanno Möttölä, Andre Miller, KVH...

Those were the days teams from Utah actually won in the Big Dance. Now, we're lucky if we have 1 team make it and if they do, they're one and done.

Hopefully UVU makes it for the first time in the next few years under Mark Madson.

But we were not lucky to win. Maybe it's you the one who needs to get his head out of the sand. Stop your negative narrative on Conley. Last night we were finally able to crack Houston switch defense thanks to Clarkson and Conley. Watch closely how they scored. They found a mismatch and it took them half a second to attack off the dribble in order to keep the advantage and deny the switch. That oftentimes took two Rockets defenders out of the play (the one defending and the one who was supposed to switch). That led to either a layup or a corner 3. Sorry but as much as I love Joe, he hasn't been effective against the Rockets. Rudy's/Joe pick and roll is not effective either. It only works when the big man slips the screen before the switch. They tried a couple of times but the Rockets were pretty good at rotating someone over and intercepting the pass.

Big long term question: even if Joe production declines a bit with Conley, does it really matter if Conley start averaging, let's say, 18ppg on 45fg%? Besides individual stats, what evidence do you have that the team is worse with a good Conley? Does it really matter where the points come from as long as they are high percentage shoots?
Long story short. The Jazz offense is was and will be better without Conley.
It's like this, say you have a car that's running awesome. Then you bolt a turbo to it and now the transmission is slipping the rear end is making a weird noise and the brakes aren't good enough. Yeah the turbo is just fine but it screws up the car.

Just like a politician avoiding questions in a debate hehe. I didn't ask whether or not the offense is better without Conley. I asked about Joe having a reduced role to maximize another player, evidence, and shot distribution/quality of shots regardless of player. It's ok to say "I'm not gonna answer those", "I don't care" or "I have no idea".

When your question takes 4 paragraphs expect minimal attention in response.
If you can't see that taking the ball out of Jingles and Mitches hands hurts the offense there is nothing else to talk about.
