What's new

2020 Presidential election

Sanders doesn’t worry too much about the historically nebulous word socialism.

"All that socialism means to me, to be very frank with you, is democracy with a small ‘d.’ I believe in democracy, and by democracy I mean that, to as great an extent as possible, human beings have the right to control their own lives. And that means that you cannot separate the political structure from the economic structure.”

He has most recently described himself as a democratic socialist and that democratic socialism is the direction he wants to lead the country.

"It is my very strong belief that the United States must reject that path of hatred and divisiveness — and instead find the moral conviction to choose a different path, a higher path, a path of compassion, justice and love. It is the path that I call democratic socialism.”

From a speech Sanders gave last summer outlining his vision for the country. The following link includes a full transcript of the speech. Very impressive and a great read:

I think the technically correct term for Sanders is social democrat.

I'm skeptical the state would issue a half wit a marriage license, but that's beside the point.

My original post said fed plus fica plus state plus sales tax is over 50%. Where are you and a supposed tax expert having difficulty?

math is not difficult.

Dude, you took 50%, subtracted fica (6.2) state (5) and Medicare (1.5) to back calculate 37.3%.

So you are claiming you pay a higher tax rate than a guy making $600k a year.

You may want to consider not making such easily disproved lies. Or just stop lying.

so what is difficult? Listening to you persist in whining about taxes you clearly do not pay.

But that's a marginal rate, isn't it? So you would have had to make multiple times the minimum for the 37% bracket for it to hit 37% with rounding involved. I think about 3 times the minimum, so about $1.5 million, maybe a bit more. (I don't have the energy or interest to do the math right now, so I could be way off.) And that's assuming you had no deductions to lower that.

But wait, you said, if I recall, 37.3%, so you're talking about higher than the highest tax rate.

toilet is claiming he pays 50% total, 37.3% federal, on his overtime pay, which is above the maximum marginal rate that the highest paid person makes.

having been busted in this lie, toilet is now trying to change the subject.

Yes, Pete Buttigieg is indeed running for president
While funny, does Buttiguige have an actual connection to the CIA? Realizing of course the the U.S. military and the CIA are entirely different entities.

Lol I really wish Bernie would not be such a rat and give us the numbers already. That way I can absolutely school some of you on grade school economics. The absolute absurdity that people think 10's of trillions just grows on trees. That I've been told "3 times" that, and I quote "Replacing the inefficiencies of a multi-payer system with high premiums, and using those premiums to create a more efficient single-payer system." is going to generate this trillions upon trillions. Oddly we don't even know a estimate price tag, yet I've been told how it's going to be paid for. No... I... haven't... I really haven't...

Hell even Cooper Anderson ain't buying it. Even he says there are estimates of 100 trillion which is basically the equivalent of the world's richest Americans combined at something like 120+ trillion. But that'll pay for it alright.

Cooper noted that the number of big government programs for which Sanders is advocating, including everything from government-run health care to the far-left “Green New Deal,” will cost well into the tens of trillions of dollars, with some top experts attaching a nearly $100 trillion price tag to his proposals.

“How much will that cost?” Cooper asked.

“Obviously, those are expensive propositions, but we have done our best on issue after issue – in paying for them,” Sanders responded.

Do you know how all – how much though?” Cooper pressed. “I mean, do you have a price tag for all of this?”

“We do. I mean, you know, and, and, the price tag is – it will be substantially less than letting the current system go,” Sanders responded. “I think it’s about $30 trillion.”

“That’s just for Medicare for All, you’re talking about?” Cooper continued. “Do you have a price tag for all of these things?”

“No, I don’t,”

Oh I see your problem. You assume you know what rates the IRS required me to pay and have them listed wrong here.

Like I said, you don't need to assume you know so much. Makes you look dumb.

He's not going to provide the info you would need to understand wtf he's talking about but he is going to provide the "you're dumb" comments.

I mean I don't get it but jazzfanz is whatever you want to use it for.

No, we just think redirecting the 10s of trillions we will already be spending will be more efficient.
And I'm talking about the trillions in addition to the trillions we already spend. Lol were not currently spending trillions on free college, were not spending trillions on the Radical Green New Deal. We're not spending the projected 1.7+ additional annual health care dollars.

Lol as even Anderson Cooper pointed out The Rats free everything has economy professionals saying 100 trillion. Enlighten me... How are we spending 10 trillion a year again?

This is a good point. Trump crying socialism in the general election puts the conversation right where Bernie wants it to be.
