Andy Larsen's Article from Last Night - A Local Guy Going Hard

Jazz's lineups (+20min) since 01/27/2020 (defeat vs Rockets) :
Conley-Clarkson-Bogdanovic-O'Neale-Gobert : OFFRTG 111.5 ; DEFRTG 101.9 ; NETRTG : +9.6
Mitchell-Clarkson-Bogdanovic-O'Neale-Gobert : OFFRTG 115.2 ; DEFRTG 112.7 ; NETRTG : +2.5
Mitchell-Ingles-Bogdanovic-O'Neale-Gobert : OFFRTG 110.3 ; DEFRTG 115.8 ; NETRTG : -5.5
Mudiay-Clarkson-Ingles-Niang-Bradley : OFFRTG 119.6 ; DEFRTG 128.6 ; NETRTG : -9.0
Conley-Mitchell-Ingles-Bogdanovich-Gobert : OFFRTG 99.5 ; DEFRTG 111.7 ; NETRTG : -12.2

Analysis :
- Conley+Mitchell don't work in offense
- Too many players don't make the defensive effort
Yes. They flubbed with our two cornerstones...they couldn't find a backcourt mate for DM...and they couldn't find defenders to help Rudy.

Fail fail fail.

The defense has not been good enough no doubt, execution, rotations and all that BUT I think it also coming from the offense.

What I mean is (this happens even when the Jazz win just less so) the Jazz' offense will go multiple possessions in a row of negative plays. I can't be the only one that notices the Jazz will turn it over (usually a stupidly) leading to a layup and if they don't immediately turn it over again they have a missed layup or missed wide open 3 which leads to another layup/dunk or 3 for the other team. On the rare occasion the opposing team doesn't hit this open 3 they get the offensive rebound and score anyway.

The Jazz will have a combination of these happen on multiple possessions in a row and not just once but multiple times during the game. They will have these negative plays 2, 3 or sometimes 4 consecutive possessions in a row AND multiple times.

I can't say I've remember or have ever seen that before, a team so consistently have so many consecutive negative plays.

Like they say... It all starts on D.

They lack ability (and effort) on D, and Rudy is tired of it.

Nice work... I continue to enjoy that we start the worst option because of this narrative that it gives us the most upside. Eye test, logic, and data tell a totally different story.

May not change the world but let's do two things...
1- Joe or Mike come off the bench... pick your poison Quin... I'd choose Mike, but we may not want to hurt his trade value (I kid... we'd never trade him)
2- Niang and Bradley are not allowed to be in the same lineup... again pick one. If you absolutely think Niang's shooting has to be in the lineup (it doesn't) then use Morgan as the backup center. I'd prefer to just do Brantley and Morgan together and just see what happens... not like many guys are executing the game plan... may as well have it be because of ignorance versus selfishness or willful disregard.

I mean, jesus louisus the Suns had like 20 more shots than the Jazz. Thats effort, both mental and physical. You cannot win with that type of discrepancy.
that lineup they are rolling with is actually quite good... they are playing really well... we did suck *** though.

I'm proud of Andy for going hard at everyone... that's tough to do when you see these guys almost daily

We have a starting lineup that works... WTF not just stick with it? Bring Mike off the bench... he can contribute still and on nights he is hot he gets more minutes. I know during the current struggles that lineup hasn't been as good either, but we have to work to get to it. Its stupid.

It would be super duper awesome if Mike would make it easy and go to Quin and say "I want to come off the bench... I think its best for the team". Maybe it'd make guys think and sacrifice a bit more. Have JC and Mike go do work on that second unit like a couple tiny flame throwers. Play Morgan and Brantley with them and just tell them to guard and screen... let Mike just play and see if he catches a rhythm. We can't trade anyone now so a big shake up may have to come through a lineup change. Get Mike used to the bench role for the playoffs... In the playoffs all bets are off and we ride the hot hand. Mike didn't do much the first quarter anyway... it feels like we are making this way to effing hard.

Is it too soon to start an off-season thread? Sign Wood (they won’t), trade Conley for OPJ (they won’t), and sign Kris Dunn (they won’t). Doesn’t much matter who you have on the roster after that.

Mitchell / Dunn
Bojan / Clarkson
OPJ / Ingles
Wood / Royce
Gobert / Brantley?

Package Davis and Bradley on draft night with our pick for something.

This plan steals from components of HH and NAOS plans.

Wood is the backup center as well... he gets the Favs treatment. Heard the Dunc'd on guys talking about him... they think he will get something in the neighborhood of 3/21M or 3/25M... I will lose my **** if he goes that cheap and we don't get in there with the MLE.

Wood’s a pipe dream.

We’re signing Patrick Patterson this off-season. That’s it.

Quin's statements in the article is that he does not get it. Nice coach speak but it appears to me he is clueless right now.

You may lose your ****, but DL won’t. I’m actually pretty sure he’s locked in on one guy. Not sure who that is, but he’s going to lock in, get tunnel vision, let a bunch of others guy fly by him, and he’s going to go get this guy. Or at least try. No reason to chase Wood if it interferes with plan A of ‘some dude.’

This could be right. With all the hope now, we’ll eventually be talked down lower and lower to the point where we’d all be excited. This would work really well with the HH theorem of always being 12 months behind on moves, because he would have been a decent pickup last year.
