Conley Benched

Until further details come I will assume Quin made the right decision... I support him. I think this was a front office, agent, or maybe Joe (why wouldn't he voice that when the met together prior to talking with the whole ****ing team and media).

Just something to file away... Mike's dad is his agent... at the trade deadline there was a statement that Mike didn't want to go to Utah, which originated from his "reps"

He's played like dog **** this year... Quin benches him... he's like **** you I ain't doing that. Agent call front office... and the front office publicly neuters their coach... this could be really really bad. Hope not.

I would’ve been like, “Really? Okay, then if you won’t come off the bench, we’re suspending you without pay for conduct detrimental to the team.” Let his *** lose about 10 million the rest of the year, force him to want to opt out, and destroy his value in the process.

**** him and his dad.

FWIW, I have no idea if we can do that. They can in the NFL.

I'm not sure what happened... but all this tough talk in the Conley threads about what they'd do is kind of funny. Not how real life works.

I just can't see this being something other than front office involvement, mike being upset, or Joe coming to coach and saying I volunteer as tribute. Like I don't think Quin just changed his mind.

I also think if it was Joe being unselfish that it would likely be in the story.

Not how real life works? Sure it does. Or can. On pro sports teams. Case in point, Terrell Owens acted like a **********. The Eagles suspended him for conduct detrimental to the team. It can happen. Players get benched all the time. It happens. This is sports where coaches have to deal with egos all the time. Some FO’s and coaches handle it well. We evidently don’t.

It's probably because Joe wanted it. If Joe makes the second unit better, it's worth the trade-off.

And if it's the right choice all this talk means nothing anyway.

I really don't want to admit it or even believe it, but it seems like the wheels are starting to come off on this Jazz team.

I sincerely hope I am wrong about this.

But Joe's numbers have been bad playing with Conley in the starting lineup or playing off the bench. The #s show Joe starting makes the most sense.
We are a weird team this year. The sample sizes and datas are funky. It could work better now that we have Clarkson and I am sure he will be subbed in early and reverse roles with Conley during the game.

He is the best at getting the ball to Rudy, which seems to impact our defense... which has been ***...

Quin would have considered whether Joe or Mike should be the bench guy... he would have reasoned that out and the tougher decision is Mike... he went through the awkward conversations and announcements... Joe would have had a chance to say... you know what let me do it instead during their conversations. Quin shouldn't be swayed by the players here...

This is some sort or organizational dysfunction.

This could be good. Maybe Mike said, “Just start me. I’ll kick Hayward’s knee cap out for you guys.” Or maybe Quin’s doing lines again. Could be some good **** coming.

I would put up $100 it is not the last one mentioned.

My honest guess is that Joe volunteered to move to the bench.
If you’re right (and I also suspect that you are onto something), then, for me, that would be a sign of how Joe is bad for chemistry. Contrary to popular opinion. You can’t salve egos at the expense of winning and be “good for chemistry.” Let’s let winning be the master category over chemistry, eh?

This is one version of bad or another. Do you like your **** sandwich with guacamole or with barbecue sauce. Gotta eat one, so pls choose.

Apparently, Conley knew he was getting benched during the interviews but he was very calm so I suppose he would show some frustration. I find it more likely if FO intervened.

Wouldn't Mike also say... appreciate it Joe, but you've been great... let's try this other arrangement... its what coach wants... one way or another I think Mike was unhappy so Joe wants to help a friend...

This is just something man. I think this may have been a DL "hey we didn't discuss this maybe try a different adjustment... TIA"
