Conley Benched

We need to find a way to get Ingles going. The entire team plays so much better when he's in a good rhythm offensively. A lot of it's on him, he needs to be more aggressive, but I think benching him is just going to make matters worse.

I’d like to see out W-L when we shoot at 40% or better from 3 or shoot worse. Our defense is mediocre and we don’t attack the rim. We rely so much on the 3.

I wonder if the coach knows this? I wonder if that's exactly WTF he was trying to do when he benched Mike? I wonder which front office person came down from they towers to neuter Quin in public? I wonder if Quin keeps losing if he says "**** it you coach the team Lindsey I'm out"?

He goes on to say that it isn't about Mike being back and how Joe does this every year. Joe has done this one other time during the autism diagnosis.

If you look at 2 man lineup data it sticks out at you like a sore thumb.

Mike and Joe together - Net Rating -5.4
Joe with Rudy +8.7
Mike and Rudy +3.5
Joe Mike and Rudy together -2.9

Joe and Mike don't work well together. Joe works really well with our most important player. Separating Joe and that player is likely going to hurt the team... but sure let's start Mike which ensures Joe and Rudy's time on the court working together can't be maximized... and sure lineups don't matter...

It. Is. Obvious.

Mike is not THE problem... but his chemistry and the effect he has on other key players is one of the main problems. I'm sick of the experts on twitter going out of their way to defend Mike.

So listened to the Mismatch pod... Chris Vernon is on it... he's a long time Memphis guy and is very tied into Mike. Was asked what he though happened and gave some stories of Jerry West telling Hubie Brown who to play and them getting in a fight.

Here is the key though... said there is no way that it was Mike being mad about it and asking for a change... said no way... and it makes sense. This is the dude who has no techs... he doesn't complain. Was adamant that Mike is the last guy that would complain or have a problem with it.

I'm 90% sure this is a DL Zanik vanity thing... what morons... have they spoken since the fiasco? Nah cuz they gots no balls. They won't fix **** they screwed up and won't let Quin make the adjustment he knows is necessary.

Joe's numbers when Conley plays: 7.2 points, 4.2 assists, 38% from the field, 33% from 3, 6.5 field goal attempts, -0.3

Joe's numbers when Conley doesn't play: 13.7 points, 6.5 assists, 45% from field, 42% from 3, 10 field goal attempts, +9

To say that Joe's struggles aren't related to Mike is just plain stupid and a flat out lie.

From a player perspective it is great that it wasn't Mike trying to show up the coaching staff. I really hope the players can band together and save the season.

On the other hand, it sounds like the upper management has figuratively and literally screwed our entire season with further tension issues that will continue to destroy any chance of having a good chemistry on the court.

A player is easier to extract than management. I just think its funny none of the media asked directly if the front office got involved.

Dan has been super annoying lately... said something like I wish people understood that lineup data is about past performance... no guarantee that is how it performs in the future...

I wanted to engage him in some twitter convo… because... yeah no ****. Every piece of data we have is that way... all of it.

Tony Jones with his "mike isn't the problem... everyone is the problem" has been just as annoying though. He isn't the only problem I get it, but the data tells us playing him over other dudes is a problem.

Joe should start, he often scores first and gets in the rhythm with those crafty layups.

it's funny listening to the "mismatch pod" about conley because the name on its own pretty much sums up conley's problem. that is his mere presence on the floor putting us on the wrong end of a mismatch at basically every position, rudy included cuz he has to get out of the painted area to guard perimeter players.

glad you haven't check stats comparison of our other players with/without conley cuz it will make you sad.

Everyone has to be moving and passing the ball around to get easy buckets. no dribbling iso all night,we only have a couple guys that can beat their man off the drib so lets get the ball movement going so the other team has to take the ball out of the basket instead of turnovers and missed shots because our transition D is sorry at best.

We need to start Joe/Donovan/Royce/Bojan/Rudy. Get Joe, Bojan and most importantly Rudy going offensively early in the game. Maybe Rudy will stop pouting. All seem to play better when they get involved offensively early in games. Bojan in particular. Much better when he scores early and often. He's a rythym player. Donovan is more of closer who heats up late.

Bench should be Conley/Clarkson/Mudiay/Niang/Oneale. Go small, spread the floor, let Conley/Clarkson/Mudiay push the pace and get downhill. Simple drive and kick stuff.

First subs should be Mike for Joe. Clarkson for Oneale. Then Oneale/Mudiay/Niang for Gobert/Mitchell/Bojan later.

Donovan needs to utilize his midrange jumper more often.

Rudy needs to stop f******* pouting.

Just various thoughts compiled into one post.
