2020 Presidential election

I’m sorry, did I ever stand up high and tout America?

nah but you’re smearing Cuba’s accomplishments as being propoganda. Just give “Cuban Medical Internationalism” a google— across the medical world, their accomplishments are met with respect.

obviously every regime with no democracy needs to be condemned— but sometimes we need to get to complicated truths instead of trumpeting pro-america views that our continent is indoctrinated with. One example being Cuba helping end apartheid while Reagan tried to keep it going

I don’t disagree with this. However, I think there’s a view that housing prices have skyrocketed in only metro areas. Which isn’t true. They’ve skyrocketed everywhere with the exception of dying small towns. Just look at Utah. You don’t have to live in salt lake to be priced out of a home. Lehi is one hour south and hardly considered metropolitan and yet single family homes of any quality start at $400,000. Even “affordable” housing in Tooele starts at $350,000. If you want a home with any land you’re looking at $400,000 Eagle Mountain where you’re 30 mins from a grocery store and 1.5 hrs from downtown Salt Lake City. Look at housing prices in Kanab, Morgan, Brigham City, and Nephi. You’re still looking at $300,000+. Unless you’re paying cash for those homes, you’re going to have to work. The Jobs that enable you to afford that type of home are 1+ hrs away.

That’s why everywhere you go you’re seeing overpriced crappy high density housing and why the homeless shelters are overflowing.

I once knew someone who bought their home in Sandy in 1986 for about $87,000. They sold it in one day in 2017 for 600,000. And we wonder why people can’t afford homes anymore?
So, who are then those who buy house at that price? Because otherwise the price on the price tag would be lower?
How much does a piece of land (lets say 1000 m2) cost in the same area, where house with land is 400 000 USD?

I'm no kind of expert, but the land is the expensive part as far as I understand.

And the thing about the price of homes, the bank will give you the 30 or even 45 year loan to buy it. I think they got a little tight with their standards but have started loosening back up. I'd be willing to be MANY people are spending about half their income on their house payment.

remember when I called you out for having a grade 1 level understanding of history involving Latin America & you responded by insults instead of a proper retort? **** was pretty funny.

No, I don't remember that at all. Could you refresh me on that?

BTW, aren't you a little young to be relishing past victories? Has you peaked already? No wonder you want to imitate Americans.

It is propaganda. I’m sure there are doctors there who are the best of the best and have achieved greatness. I don’t believe the majority of their citizens, however, have access to such care. There are literally hundreds, if not thousands, of articles out there about this.

Here’s one.

Honestly, there’s no sense in replying because I won’t. You have your mind made up and I have mine. I think you’re gravely underestimating how liberal I am in my thinking and forget that I’m a D/I. I’ve just read or seen way too many articles on this. By “liberal” outlets.

Some locations already have a $15 minimum wage. They did not have massive layoffs.

Way to stop my sentence short. Many have cut hours. And give it time. More will, or will lay people off. Or raise prices which I failed to mention before. You live in fantasy land if you think a CEO and BoD is gonna stand lower profits. Won’t happen. I’m not saying it’s right. It just won’t happen.

I see the DNC is rigging the election for Biden again. Time for a Russia or Corona hoax so that some of you won't even acknowledge it's been the left rigging elections this entire time.

Your party has no backbone. A good chunk of you are The Rat Bernie Bros and are openly complacent about them stealing this election from you. Just imagine... If you spent 1/100,000,000,000th of the time you spend obsessing over your higher power Trump and spent that energy on your own crooked party just maybe The Rat could win.

You won't though and the DNC knows this. You're to easy to be distracted with things like a virus thats less deadly than the common flu. Congrats on your candidate Biden openly lying and politicizing that btw... What a bunch of great humans. Using a deadly virus as a political tool.

I predict Klobuchar to be the next one to drop out, perhaps right after tomorrow’s results. Especially after having to cancel an event yesterday because of some protesters storming into the event.

@dalamon

I’m sure you’re a wonderful human being fwiw. I have too many fond memories of you and have heard too many similar stories on here from people who’ve met you. So if I came across as a dick, I apologize.

However, your arrogance (I respectfully think that’s accurate) and complete and utter disdain for America is a bit much at times. I say that respectfully and as someone who has a similar distaste. I do. I’m not patriotic one iota. I don’t buy into our ********. The country’s interests generally come down to money and power through the “Christian” lens of those with major influence. It’s disgusting, really.

That said, to denounce our ****** country is to indirectly and sanctimoniously prop most every other one up on a perch, and ignore the fact that many (most?) do the same exact thing on a smaller scale given the fact that they have less power, resources, money and influence regionally and in the world. Not Canada I’d guess (I know little about you hosers) as you guys seem to keep to yourself. Not, I don’t know, Switzerland—much love whatshisname who married a Swiss, rich hottie. But many, many countries.

I am very curious however what your world views will be like in 20 years. It’s clichéd but I do think your age means a relative lack of real world experiences compared to say someone of my age or older. I say that respectfully of course. And I fully understand that greater age does not mean I or any other older adult is right. I’m not saying I am. But I’m curious how you will look at your profession, your employer, your country and the world in say 20 years time. Perhaps equally as fondly. Perhaps not so much depending on your experiences.

Our views are all exaggerated because our experiences are all biased. Mine, yours, everyone’s. And I just don’t really want to get into arguments over political nonsense. I never understand why people do so so passionately, defending their beliefs to the death, citing source after source. It’s too tough to sift through all the sources and deem which are very accurate, somewhat accurate, completely full of ****, or somewhere in between. And for what ends? To be right on Jazzfanz? At the end of the day, it’s just not worth it to me. There are 24 hours in a day. I try to sleep close to 8. I work 8. I eat meals, work additional hours from home, spend wonderful time here with my kids, wife and friends, go to my kids’ sporting events, work on **** around the house, raise my children and oh yeah, try to enjoy life and the beautiful simplicity that parenting and marriage offers. Arguing about politics is completely and ridiculously insensible to me.

Love ya.

Arguing about politics IS very important for a democracy to work. Because people don't want to be bothered or are disinterested, our democracy is stolen from us, and we accept the MSM accounts which are for the most part propaganda to serve the moneyed interests. Most people think it's not worth their time, but now we have a candidate who actually is interested in changing the direction of the increasing oligarchy and all we hear in the media are attacks and red-baiting. I'm not young, by the way. In fact, I'm more radical now than ever. It's because I've studied history and I have seen the progressive destruction of our political system and efforts of the powers that run the country to maintain and increase their power. And please, not you, but others on here, stop with the nonsense that conspiracy theories are backed by unstable individuals. Conspiracy is the name of the game in politics. It's always been that way. Go back and read Machiavelli or Thomas Hobbes.

I don’t need to argue about politics to realize Trump’s a ****ing idiot and that I’d never vote for him and will vote for whoever contests him.

I predict Klobuchar to be the next one to drop out, perhaps right after tomorrow’s results. Especially after having to cancel an event yesterday because of some protesters storming into the event.

She's apparently going to hang in until Minnesota to see if she can win delegates in her home state.

I agree there will be side effects. However, I see it as more in terms of increased prices than decreased hours. Will a CEO (or more realistically, a manager) who need 200 man-hours to do a job suddenly need only 160 if the minimum wage rises? How many of these jobs can be successfully automated, but have not been?

Workers will simply take on more responsibility. Look at Amazon. They work their people to the bone, getting every ounce of sweat out of them in every second they’re on the clock.

Other companies will do the same. Instead of having 20 employees working at a Target at once, they’ll have 15. Those 15 will work have to work harder. If they don’t, they’ll be out of a job. They’ll automate more as well. Somehow they will.

If you're a D/I, why are you sharing articles from a source who's first line on Wikipedia says:
"The Foundation for Economic Education (FEE) is a libertarian economic think-tank dedicated to the "economic, ethical and legal principles of a free society"

You're honestly not-- we're just hashing things out. I'm forceful with some of my posts here, but they're not meant to offend.

However, your arrogance (I respectfully think that’s accurate) and complete and utter disdain for America is a bit much at times. I say that respectfully and as someone who has a similar distaste. I dont think I hate America, to be honest. I would say that I definitely do hate the oligarchy of America's power institutions, and the imperialist hegemony they've imposed through most of the 20th and 21st centuries. But nah, I would never say I hate America. A lot of great people, and great things about America. So many All-American movements that have fortified amazing humans. Hatred is a strong word, and I dont feel that way. I love Bernie, and his story certainly defines one aspect of American society.

[QUOTE]That said, to denounce our ****** country is to indirectly and sanctimoniously prop most every other one up on a perch, and ignore the fact that many (most?) do the same exact thing on a smaller scale given the fact that they have less power, resources, money and influence regionally and in the world. Trust me-- Canada has as much baggage as America does. They just haven't had the power to do to other nations what America has done outside of their borders-- but rest assured, Canada took all of that energy and imposed it on the Indigenous people within the borders.

I am very curious however what your world views will be like in 20 years. Time will tell-- but I have a physician colleague probably around your age who proclaims that he's a socialist to everyone with ears probably like once a week. So it depends-- but I do think that the tendency to undergo this change hinges on your dependency on these political movements. I will generally be fine under conservative governance, because I am close enough to white-passing, have an ambiguous name, and am a couple years away from finishing university and having an extremely well paying job, meaning i'll probably pay off my student debts within 5-10 years. So the reason I lend solidarity with these movements isn't because I have a temporary dependence on them-- it's because these social movements speak to realities that I've faced since I was born.

Our views are all exaggerated because our experiences are all biased. Mine, yours, everyone’s. And I just don’t really want to get into arguments over political nonsense. It's true. If you care about politics, one should get out and canvass, get involved. Message boards are usually just dick-measuring contests. Still, I think there are a lot of high-character people on here, and sometimes they share things that to me I feel like might shift if they were faced with a competing view.
