Following Potential 2020 draftees

What a show Utah State's Sam Merrill put on today in the upset win over SDSU!

(if you didnt see it.. check this out!)

I was just gonna post this. Awesome game.

I can see Sam never sniffing an NBA court in his life (during the regular season) but I wouldn't be surprised if he plays many years either.

He's a hell of a basketball player. Not the greatest athlete, but a baller nonetheless.

Is Sam really the greatest Aggie? Jaycee Carroll comes to mind, the kid who died after a year or two there, Nelson, and Wesley come to mind.

Refs were they called Queta out of bounds on this play as well, taking the basket away that he scored.

General consensus is Wayne Estes is still the greatest as he did what he did in a shorter span (75 games). But Sams passed up Jaycee and others as the greatest Aggie.

Yeah, Wayne Estes was the kids name. Such a sad story and surprised there hasn't been a movie mad about him. Kid had the game of his life only to die a few hours later helping people in a car accident because he touched a down powerline.

Goat.

But does he have five months of hard lifting?

How’d the surgery go?

Time to keep a close watch on N'Faly Dante... 16 minutes in his last game, 4/4 from the field, he's gonna be trying to get noticed...

The more next years draft seems to materialize, the more i wonder how Dante fits in either of these drafts.. Right now with basically 3 big guys looking like safe 1st rd picks - Wiseman, Okongwu and Achuwia, it would seem to be a near perfect scenario for Dante to make a big splash.

BTW i was perfectly on the money about Robert Woodard years ago, ESPN's got him as the 24th best available player. He was just a 4-star player when i'd hype him too like on the fringe of the top-50.

Team USA kid.

If this draft is as weak as they say it is, why not gamble on a player like Woodard? who's got a prototype wing frame, strong/tough and knocks down 3s, plus hes pretty athletic.

(Not too toot my own horn but I used to post about Okoro being underrated back then too, and he sits at #4 on the list now... another team USA kid........)

Well, I've started checking out players for the 2020 draft. There's a handful that I like for the Jazz that I'll list here with some first impressions. I haven't ranked them yet.

Patrick Williams at FSU: Tough, defensive-minded wing in the mold of a James Johnson. If his offense develops he could be a Jimmy Butler-caliber 2-way wing. Prototypical size at 6'7" 220+ lbs.

Aaron Nesmith at Vanderbilt: 6'6" pure shooter who can hit from all over the perimeter when his shoulders are squared up. Can also hit from mid-range and has a few scoring moves off the bounce. Adequate, not elite athlete. He reminds me a bit of Caris Levert as a soph. at Michigan, but likely he's an even better shooter.

Tyler Bey at Colorado: This is the type of athlete the Jazz need on the wing-- 6'7" / 218 lbs / 7'0" wingspan. Great bounce and functional athleticism, comparable to Brandon Clarke or Larry Nance, that enables him to create advantages and finish in the paint. Still raw offensively, but has decent feel and the physical tools to be special.

Jalen Smith at Maryland: Functionally similar to Thomas Bryant as a stretch big, but with better mobility and more ability to put the ball down and do something productive. Looks like he'll be able to score in different ways and has a bit of sneaky ability to pass. He also has some rim protection and goes hard to the boards better than Bryant. He can probably play a bit at the 4 as well as the 5.

Saddiq Bey at Villanova: An interesting 6'8" shooting big with 3pt range and offensive tools. Loves to spot up. Middling athlete by NBA standards, but makes up for some of it with feel and IQ.

Jordan Nwora at Louisville: A versatile, athletic wing at 6'7" / 225 lbs who can score in a variety of ways. Offensively, his impact could be similar to Dillon Brooks, but he's a bit tougher and more active defensively than Brooks. Shooting over 40% from 3pt on nearly 6 attempts per game.
