Jared Butler is a 6'3" sophomore guard from Baylor who is flying a bit under the radar. He could go early - mid 2nd round. Good 3pt shooter (38%), good handle, good patience. He's not flashy, but plays under control and makes decent reads. More or less an adequate defender, nothing special there, but with a pretty good steal rate at 3.2%.
If he tightens up his defense and makes good reads, he could play a role similar to George Hill, imo.

I saw him play this year and he is impressive. One of his coaches was Mo Williams.

honestly watching McDaniels this year the most common thing that would be running thru my head was "not as good as jonathan isaac"... but he's somewhere near-by, which is why obviously he's worth discussing...
He certaintly fits the prototype of the SF/PF tweener that I've been calling for here for a long *** time... (but with Royce in Utah how big of a need is that?)
If I could pick one of these prospects to needle with questions, it would be McDaniels, cuz I think I would be able to make some progress on my evaluation. I think team interviews are gonna be a big deal for him. Jonathan Isaac is a kid whos got his head in the right place.
When a kid blows up the way McDaniels did, its pretty easy to see how it could get to his head.. His shot selection bothers me.. IDK it's stuff like that i'd be more worried about than his frame.

Ya know, I was a big Christian Wood supporter some of y'all might remember. I used to keep him at like #60 on my mocks back when everyone had dropped him. I just couldnt understand how people didnt think he was worthy of taking a flyer on.
I think I used to say "what makes Anthony Randolph (or Caboclo) a 1st rd pick and this kid barely a 2nd rd pick/undrafted type"
There was if u remember a bit of a Zach LaVine type of thing where people were convinced Wood was entering the draft too early, and that he was too skinny......

Christian Wood is such a bizarre comparison point for me personally. It's really uh, mind-melting.... I can't figure it out... He is a complete outlier.He averaged almost 3 blocks a game his last season at UNLV.. showed his outside shot was pretty good there.. long *** arms.. super mobile..
Part of it is, I still dont get how he doesnt get drafted.... right... so now i've gotta use that in my comparison point that he's an UDFA, but obviously he was/is good enough to be selected.. and the teams made the error, not me
like for example, comparing predraft Christian Wood to Jaden McDaniels... good luck with that... like my brain goes into auto-shutdown mode trying to figure that out because my conclusion is that it's not really on-court stuff + the strength of the field that made one of them a fringe draftable guy and the other a fringe lotto guy... cuz simply imo the footage just doesn't confirm any of that, it confirms the opposite... from what i saw at least..

He's more fluid and has more ball skills than Isaac, but he struggles to finish at the rim and can't finish through contact. That lack of ability to drive and finish will change the way defenses guard him and keep him from being that dynamic, triple-threat wing we need between Mitchell and Gobert.
Christian Wood is long and super bouncy. He scores over people basically.
Check out Leandro Bolmaro, a 6'7" wing from Argentina who plays for FC Barcelona. The Jazz need to add a wing with real ball skills, and this could be the guy in a year. Bolmaro has good size, good feel, great vision and plays with some sauce. He's only 19.

I think there's a small handful of guys in the mid-2nd round that are worth shopping for, just my opinion. They'd include:
Jared Butler from Baylor
Reggie Perry from MSU
Grant Riller from Charleston
Paul Eboua from Cameroon/Italy
Maybe Neemias Queta at Utah State and a few others.

I noticed a guy from Hofstra bubble up on some lists. He had played second fiddle to JWF and he exploded this year.
Reggie Perry is very fluid and skilled for a 6'10" / 250 lbs dude. Fifteen years ago, he'd have been an easy 1st-rd pick. He's only 20 years old too.

I'm watching the matchups this year between Tre Jones and Cole Anthony and Jones is more than holding his own. He's bigger and markedly better than his brother, especially getting downhill on offense.
If the Jazz wanted to draft a starting-caliber point guard outside the top 20, this might be the draft to do it. There are 8 or 9 legit PG prospects in this draft.

Tre might have a lil better touch with the floater, but still I strongly disagree with this. To me, Tyus would be a top-20 guy in this draft no questions asked. Tre, to me, is more of an early 2nd rd type.
Been saying here for a long time that Tyus is actually way better than Tre. The reason why, IN THE NBA, Tyus is much more dangerous at getting downhill because he's a very good outside shooter that must be respected, which simply isnt the case with Tre.
The idea that you draft Tre to groom him as a starter seems crooked to me too.. I think he's a backup. I think if your looking for a starter in that 20-40 range you've gotta be looking at the riskier players... **** I'd rather have a player like David Johnson to develop..

He's not 6'10. Love Reggie Perry's game tho. I feel like he's gonna be climbing the boards in the weeks leading up to the draft. I think he's ready to hold down like a 3rd spot in the depth chart, interested to see where he lands and if they put him in the g-league.
