Sorry for the long post in advance -
Wrigley Field (Chicago)
When trying to decide what ballpark to “draft”, I knew from the start that I was hoping to get Wrigley Field. I don’t know enough about baseball to adequately tell you if my team is built better for one ballpark over another. Talent shines regardless of the venue. What I wanted most was an iconic ballpark that is steeped in history. Yankee Stadium and Fenway were on my shortlist, but Wrigley has one thing that no other ballpark does - a personal connection.
I grew up in Central Illinois (as a Cards fan), but my extended family were all Dodgers, Twins or Cubs fans. My grandpa and uncle were both big Cubs fans their whole lives. As a boy, the Cubs were on WGN locally. I saw them on TV often and went to several games with family members. Never really cared much when I was a kid. . .
2nd part of the story - my wife didn’t meet her dad or his family until she was an adult and we showed up to a family reunion unannounced. They’re wonderful people and welcomed us with open arms. Her grandpa was a legendary youth baseball coach in his Nevada community. He and all of her uncles epitomize die-hard Cubs fans. Her grandfather passed away not long after we met her dad’s side of the family. In his honor, three of her uncles took the trip to Chicago, went on the tour of the ballpark - and got themselves arrested after jumping over the barriers to scatter their dad’s ashes at 2nd base. They laughed their asses off when they told us the story (even though one of them got JACKED up by security.)
TL,DR. . . Wrigley Field, and glad to have it.
