Don/Rudy ESPN Article

I guess I should add that - since these super mature players go out of their way to read what irrelevant people like us have to say - I have had high hopes for Donovan that he’s special and actually super mature and self-aware. I hope my doubts will be proven wrong but there are real serious signs that this is going to end up being a bad ending.

But really, why is Donovan’s shot selection so bad and why doesn’t he get more assists?

I stand by that I prefer they figure this out, but if they don’t, it’s on DM and I’d rather have a team of players I like that are better than a flashy team that pisses away games in the limelight.
The issue is the rest of the team undoubtably likes Donovan more.

Until Gobert dominates in a playoff series, he's not as important as Donovan. And that's before all the off court benefits Donovan brings.

Support the kid - don't run him off.

Remember when we were up 25 in game 5 of the OKC series and then Gobert picked up his 5th foul and we lost?.......Your definition of “dominate” is skewed. He’s been vital to winning as well and yes so has Donovan. Also we all support him, but asking for him to be open and honest isn’t an issue.

He forced Houston to have its 3 worst offensive games of the season in a row.
The team forced Houston while he led. But even at his best, it took Donovan going for 31 to win the only game we won.

Rudy is a very good player, but he simply can't take over a game. Legends like Mutombo or even Ewing were so good, but never got over the hump because playoff basketball is about perimeter play.

Prioritizing Rudy over Donovan is such bad thinking. Especially considering the weak excuses y'all are using to bash Donovan.

Mutombo’s a legend? Lulz.

If I was just to read this thread and not the article I would think it was a bad news inside. However I did read it yesterday as the Jazznews on IG recommended it and I was encouraged buy it. I mean it did have things in it that made me realize there was a bit more too it then I thought there was but that both sides acknowledge mistakes were made on how things were handled.

DM said in the article that people on the team and that mattered knew how he felt and he felt there was no need to re-hash or respond public to the things being said. He also said he felt bad that it detracted from the team and what other players were doing and saying. Also it mentioned basically had the season continued as normal that this would've been a non issue as they would've been together in the locker room to hash it out and there would've been other stories around the NBA so this would've been a small or non story.

Rudy said he did act immature and realizes he can be difficult to deal with but it all comes from wanting to win and they both said they recognize the other person is all about winning. So boom done, they can always have that common ground and learn and grow from this. Like it said in the article Jazz coaches put in their ears to remember if what they are saying or feeling is about proving your own point or is it about winning. So to me it seems like the Jazz staff have a handle and have been aware of each side point of view since the start.

Because people kept missing wide open 3s. No Rudy and those 31 points would mean nothing. Which playoff game did Donovan win us single-handedly?

Rudy is a very good player, but he simply can't take over a game. Legends like Mutombo or even Ewing were so good, but never got over the hump because playoff basketball is about perimeter play.

Rudy is the system defensively and offensively. Our PnR heavy system which creates so many open shots can't be replicated without Rudy. Rudy leads the league in screen assists for a reason.

No u.

Great, logical, well explained post.

Everybody please let the drama rest until there is actual, real tangible drama to discuss.

Go Jazz

Both guys are awesome... just hope they play well in Orlando and solidify the relationship. Will be watching the body language and interactions very closely.

I can’t believe that just over two years ago we were watching rookie Mitchell score 40 on OKC’s ‘big three’ in the clinching playoff game. The future had never been brighter.

Sports is evil.

Young players want to earn their place in the league. They want to prove they can put up stats, become stars and get paid. The same thing happened with AK47 and Dwill when DWill was establishing himself and told AK to move over. These are normal growing pains.

I thought this wasn't bad, tbh --

One other thing that is becoming clear to me is that DL loves Rudy. He loves his competitiveness and his desire to be great. I think the Jazz are ready to re-invest in Rudy and try to make him happy and comfortable here, as they know that when he's motivated and playing hard he's a game-changing force.

Also, the Jazz have been changing their identity this season from a mostly defensive-minded team to a top-10 offensive team. They brought in Bojan Bogdanovic, Mike Conley and Jordan Clarkson. Those guys can all score 25+ on any given night, and to be honest, I think they're really the ones taking touches away from Rudy on offense. So I'm not sure why the focus is on Donovan not sharing the ball so much.

Rudy's gone from the 2nd or 3rd option on offense to more like the 4th option this year, but it's because the coaches are giving Bojan, Mike and Jordan a green light to go and score. Mitchell is doing pretty much the same thing he did last year.

I don’t understand this Mitchell hate or the fact you idiots think he’s out the door as soon as he’s able to. He’s human, and allowed to be just that. If I were him I’d have probably acted similarly. Does he have to be buddy buddy with Gobert... no, he just needs to respect Gobert the player. Does this mean Mitchell is leaving, no! Could he? Sure, but that doesn’t mean he is. You idiots are clueless. Stop trying to separate Mitchell and Gobert, as if they aren’t allowed to be human and imperfect. I haven’t exactly handled this crazy *** 2020 very well eather. I’ve had some meltdowns, said some things I shouldn’t have, done some things I’m not proud of and seeing a therapist about it. I use this site and other forms of entertainment to deal and escape this nightmare of a time to escape. Soon basketball will resume and I’m sure Mitchell and Gobert will put things behind them. With that said join the ****ing draft you idiots!!

He may love him, but he’s treating him like they other girl’ that he takes for granted for always being there, else he would have been a little more proactive when Rudy was getting fisted nationally.
