Ben Simmons strengthening his case for Defensive Player of the Year

Chasing guards around screens, bodying up 7-foot centres, the 24-year-old is doing a stellar job regardless of who he's tasked with defending.

"I'm vey happy to see how well Ben has been playing on defence, it's been amazing," former Defensive Player of the Year and current 76ers teammate Dwight Howard said after the win over the Mavs.

"He’s picking up guards, he’s playing bigs, he’s playing one through five. A couple of days ago, he was playing against Rudy Gobert. Tonight, he’s against Luka.

"I believe he's the best defensive player in the league right now and he's doing an amazing job."

After finishing fourth in DPOY voting last season behind Giannis Antetokounmpo, Anthony Davis and Rudy Gobert, Simmons has made it a two-horse race with Gobert, who is looking for his third DPOY award this season.
 
This slanderous BS must stop. I know that many of you might say, the Jazz aren't worried about DPOY we have our eyes on bigger prizes, etc. But, if the media picks Simmons just because they are bored with voting for Gobert it will be nothing but utter B.S.

Seriously... this guy is hilarious. He chases awards harder than he does Kardasians. I feel like DPOY is close to buttoned up and it ain't Ben ****ing Simmons. He ain't even the best defensive player on his team.

Can someone tweet this at Simmons? I want to read his reaction. I’d do it myself but naturally I don’t do Twitter.

Dude, this means nothing. Don't you understand that Simmons takes on the toughest assignments every night? He moves seamlessly from PG to C and back again. He is in such tough situations nothing can truly capture the power of his defensive impact. You can't prove anything remotely true with facts, so GTFO with those numbers and facts. Good day sir!
 
We are currently the #2 rated defense in the league. They are #6.

Rudy has Royce and not a whole lot else as far as plus defenders.

Ben has Embiid, Danny Green, Thybulle... if Ben is the best defender then their team should be the #1 D by a wide margin.
 
Don't underestimate the northeast media influence. Gobert is a generational defensive talent. But Simmons could have the media's ear.

Remember it’s the media that votes for this stuff, and they have a preference (and desire) to lean a much different way that we do.

Yeah but campaigning already is some weak *** ****... especially when your case ain't that good.
 
Gobert is still the betting favorite by a considerable margin. I don't think we need to get too worked up about Simmons trying to promote himself. He wasn't even 2nd on the site I looked at, Myles Turner was.
