Paschall traded to the Jazz

LoPo just said that the main reason why Royce got a chance was his friendship with Don.
Not the main reason. A reason.

“He’s one of my closest friends on the team,” fellow Jazz rookie Donovan Mitchell said. “He’s always here getting a workout, so to see it all coming to fruition with him is great. We live in the same building, so we’re always around each other. He does a little bit of everything. He’s a better scorer than people realize. We’re proud of him right now.”

Sorry, one of the main reasons.

I'm willing to bet that if he didn't work hard and wasn't a better player than people realized he'd be out of the league, but if he wasn't best friends with Mitchell he'd still be here because he works hard and is better than people realized.

I get it, hopefully Mitchell rubs off on EP and he gets better habits (not sure if EP was ever bad). But if he makes it in the game over Brantley I'm going to assume it's because he earned it. Not because he's a better friend.

I agree 100%. Don isn't putting guys on the court or keeping guys on the roster. They have to make that next step just like Royce did.

I like the trade… the cost is like nothing. He’s a viable bench player. I don’t think he gets more than 5-10 minutes a night when healthy unless we trade someone. I don’t think he’s good enough to justify trading someone. Maybe he takes the next step with his shooting and be something pretty good. If it makes Donovan happy to have his homie then great.

It’s all fuzzy to me, long time ago, but I do remember listening to the radio and Locke was talking about it. Actually as I’m writing I think he was talking as if the jazz were worried Brown would be a bad influence on him or something.
Deron had that incident with Whaley before Dee got here, but I do believe D.B was a party animal at Illinois, but never got into any off court issues. Could be mistaken.

Whiteside for Favors is a wash. (But at a much better price point.)

Gay is better than Niang (and will hopefully be an impact player in the the postseason.)

Butler should be better than Thomas (and has the potential to be a real rotation player on this team.)

Paschall just needs to be better than Juwan Morgan to justify the trade and roster spot. If he breaks out in any way, the Jazz have his bird rights and can keep him as a RFA or extend him at a price they like. Low risk move IMO.

And they still have a roster spot (Ilyasova) to find a bargain somewhere and fill one more need.

Solid off-season, with some flexibility to make a big move if an opportunity presents itself.

Every single move has either been a small win, or an upgraded player. Getting Conley under $25m, getting two 2nd rounders (1 which allowed the Paschall trade) and still getting Butler, upgrading from Niang to Gay, dump Favors's contract and getting to neutral to Whiteside. Every single move is a plus. Gigantic wins? maybe not. but every move is a win. This is what needed to happen.

I have had some time to look through Paschalls numbers and lineup data… I have come to the conclusion that I have no idea what this guy is… used as a center in weird *** lineups… not tall but thiccc… didn’t really ever play with curry or Green much so on/off is ******.

I think he’s just a straight 4 in today’s nba but doesn’t really get used that way. Who knows… he might be pretty solid or just a super mediocre player.

I view him as an alternative to our deep bench developmental guys last year. It was pointless having them because there was never a situation where we would need to use them as a patch or anything. This gives us one of those guys who has real NBA experience and if we're thin enough having to plug in some minutes here and there, it won't be glaringly bad.

I don’t think he can play 4 with us. His iso bully ball game just isn’t going to mesh. That’s why GSW benched him (on top of his bad defense).

I think he’s going to have to optimize and take less shots. There aren’t enough shots to go around as it is. To me he needs to be use as the solo roll man where he can attack like Harrell. But that presents a ton of challenges defensively because he doesn’t rebound well and also doesn’t defend.

I posted a video of a podcast from some reporter that covers the warriors. He said main problem with Paschall is he was playing center every night and his body broke down to the point he was having all these nagging injuries that weren’t going away.

Also, all the starters were injured thrusting him into bigger minutes than he should’ve gotten. Keep him in a bench roll 10-20 minutes, whatever works best and only play him center when matchup calls for it or we want to change things up because the offense stagnants.

He’s interesting as a roll man… we’ve really only had Rudy as a lob finisher and Favs as a roll finisher… Eric can dribble a couple times and maybe pass out of the roll better.

Bully ball isn’t ideal but I do think against teams that switch it could be useful. I just wonder if the plan is to have him in the regular rotation or it’s a wait and see type of thing. Hopefully he doesn’t grumble too much if he isn’t a regular… if that happens then him being homeboys with Dono is not the best.

To mesh in Quin system Paschall just gotta watch Morris twins' film like crazy. Cut all the midrange crap and start shooting 3s. If he can turn himself into a 4 who can stretch the floor he's gonna have a solid NBA career. If he can do a bit of defend and rebound, he's gonna get paid.

Some of the responses here are yikes. Golden State could have easily gotten more than a second for him. I’m shocked he went for so cheap. This is a guy who made All-Rookie 1st Team on 14 PPG and 4.6 RPG a game while shooting 49.7% from the field. He will be in the rotation. No reason he shouldn’t be the 8th-9th man on the team. You guys live and die by analytics but analytics do not show how **** of a team he was playing on.
