What's new

Eric Paschall is not who I thought he was

He is playing the role I hoped Juwan Morgan would give us. Morgan was also kind of between 4 and 5, hustling on d, crashing the boards, had good impact in the first games of bubble series against Denver. But Paschall has bigger body, is more agile, can handle the ball better and guard perimeter.

This is why we need to up grade our other theoretical players into actual players.

How are we feeling about Paschall 8 games in? He had a hot start shooting from 3, but that's come down to earth. Defense has been up and down from my perspective but some thing he's been amazing.

I love how he's been crashing the boards on offense. That's pretty much his only way of getting involved but he's doing a good job. I still think his role is kind of funky for him, but I continue to be impressed with his skillset. If we're going to roll with Forrest when Mitchell/Conley out I think we should tap into EP as more of a scorer.
I pretty much feel the same as when I started the thread. His outside shooting was going to come back down to earth, but I like that he is trying to get to the rim more.

I think this is his ideal role in the NBA. Low usage, hustle, facilitate.

Great game last night from Paschall. He brought a ton of energy and made some nice plays. 15 MIN, 7 PTS, 5 REB, 2 AST, 1 TO on 3-4 shooting 1-2 3PT. He looks like he might get better and better.

He is definitely the energy guy. The comparison to Crowder is apt. I think as he gets comfortable in his role he will just get better.

I miss Eric. I understand why he doesn't play, but I miss his energy. I wish Quin could find a non-garbage time role for him, even if it wasn't every game.

This is the craziest thought reversal for me in 2021. I hated this pickup and now I wish he was playing more.

I enjoyed his time out there... it was just nice to see a live, forceful body out there on the court. Looking at the splits though... and Eric really did hurt the offense. He needs to be a corner three shooter only. He is a willing three point shooter above the break but he's bad. He's respectable from the corners which gives me some hope he could stretch it out a bit, but there is a lot going on in that shooting motion.

I don't know why they don't put him in as a disruptor when we are losing ground. They need to get a Crowder-type in the game to shake it up in those scenarios and Paschall is about all we have like that.

Paschall is the kind of guy who can have a long career playing basketball especially overseas, but he is what he is.

Hard to be a NBA player without a few defining traits - he's just a solid player, but doesn't do anything spectacularly which also limits his production.

I want Q to work it out: get Eric some time as small-ball C with Gay at the 4. Totally spread floor. Eric in the corner or as the roll man.

I'd love to see some different sets or wrinkles designed to get high percentage shots for Paschall that would allow different lineups for disruption purposes.

Please show me the winning coach who makes sets and wrinkles for their 12th man.
I was referencing Paschall because this thread is about him, but many coaches put in wrinkles for what they have on the court.

It's more the idea that when a team is playing effective against our standard sets, we have some other sets available for our backup units to try and cause some disruption.

Gay provides a lot of interior height we were missing, but Paschall may provide a toughness that would be good to fit on the court.

Paschall needs to figure out what he's trying to be. Either model his game after Jae Crowder the enforcer, or polish his offense like the Morris twins. He's suffering the tweener syndrome right now.

I’d like to think about things more in terms of developing different looks, not how many players it takes to play those different looks.

If Whiteside sits, then Paschall could suddenly be in the 8-man rotation.

And if we’re forced to go small, then we need to be able to adjust. Obvi.

I get that Paschall has limitations and would make our team worse over long stretches vs anyone he would replace. I personally find him entertaining to watch and think he could provide something different that in short stretches would at least make the opposing team have to adjust.
