What's new

Dear Jordan Clarkson

That defensive sequence from JC makes Donovan look like Gary Payton. He’s tryna burn this thing to the ground lol

I think JC is always going to stink on defense, but the one thing he can do better is rebound. Our complete lack of perimeter defense was the biggest culprit in the recent losses, but we win against IND and MIA if we rebound at a decent rate.

I remember Quin getting into AB’s head that he needed to rebound well and that skill has made Burks a serviceable player on defense. JC needs that same motivation. Instead of pressing harder on offense when his shot isn’t falling he needs to work extra hard to rebound and do his best to stay engaged on defense.

That really doesn’t explain why he’s shooting like **** as a spot up guy
I think it does.

This is just from memory, but what really got Clarkson going during his hot half of the season was his mid-paint game. The move he had where he would drive to the middle and put up a floater, or pivot into a fadeaway. That was a MONEY shot for him then I think teams really sat on those moves and knew what was coming, so he became more of just an outside shooter (which he isnt naturally great at). I think he's a rhythm player who needs those kind of buckets to fuel his game on the 3pt shots.

rebounding takes just as much skill as defense, and we just aren't that good at it, with the exception of Rudy, Hassan and Royce.

Lol... You named 2 team c and mighty pf who's average 4 rebounds pg this season. Sometimes is better stay quiet trust me..

He's shooting 2P shots a little less this year but his percentages on 2s are up in every range... paint, mid, 15 feet.

I think he is not as good as his hot start last year... and then he is in a funk that has affected him mentally and it has built on itself. Maybe new rules affect a little bit of it especially on pull ups... new ball might have something to do with it too... i think he gets back close to 35% by season's end. He's probably closer to the 33% shooter from 3 than he is the 40% shooter he was at the start of last season. I think he should look to swap a couple of the bad threes a night for a decent paint look and it'd help.

Overall our shooting should really pop up soon... Bojan, Donovan, Jordan, and Royce are all well below their averages last year. Rudy Gay will also add another 35-40% spot up guy in Paschall's place.

Well it's not a year by year thing, it would be the 1st half of last year vs the 2nd of last year and whatever is happening currently.

But yeah, I could be way off. It's just an eye-test thing based off what I remember, so most likely flawed.

Last year jordan clarkson attempted 8.8 threes per game and shot 35% from three.
This year Jordan Clarkson is attempting 9.7 threes per game and shooting 25% from three.

I mean, the light has to get yellow at some point, right? the dude had 20 shots in 21 minutes last night. On the wrong night (we've had plenty), meaning if he's off, it's pretty hard to overcome that sort of volume and pace.

Yeah but you get more points per shot on 3s so it’s actually more like 37% oh wait that still sucks ***

12 three point attempts last night lol.

Probably not, since Quin often states in interviews that he would never pull JC out for bad shooting when he might someone else, because he "believes in him.'

Locke keeps talking about how the Jazz have too few possessions and guy's are having to sacrifice too much offensively. Meanwhile Jordan Clarkson has the 16th highest usage rate in the entire NBA at 30%, higher than guys like Dame, Jimmy Butler, Anthony Davis, KAT, Westbrook and others. He's shooting 36% and 26% from 3, he takes nearly 10 three's a game. Flame on, amirite.
