Clique Bait

It's a weird contrast with my gf. I look downright sullen in social situations watching her get more and more energetic and when she has to spend some time alone, she always asks me how I don't get bored.
I think it comes down to personality. I am perfectly content to be alone and at times prefer it to medium to large numbers of people around me. Strangely enough I can feel more alone in a crowded room than in a room with one other person. I do better in small groups or one on one situations... or even on my own. Maybe it is that I can appreciate some quiet solitude and introspection, and flourish.
Other people I know flourish in a crowd or with attention. I guess they get nutrients from attention and interaction while I don't. I guess I do care what a few people think, but for the most part I just don't care what others think of me so I don't seek them out.
I do think both and/or all personalities need at least one person to fundamentally hear them, understand them, acknowledge their view, and ultimately accept them flaws and all.
We just get there different ways. Some are snipers while others use a shotgun.

Lately I think I'm a semi active mod that logs in mostly to chime in on moderator duties, and every once in a while check the Jazz forum and read the Jazz Avenues thread.
If I don't seek out and find posts that need reported it's because I don't intentionally go to the general forum now. I do agree that it tends to be more argumentative and verbally violent than real discussion. People tend to want to be right rather than discuss and/or understand.
I will every few years indulge myself in a little back and forth when I'm bored it seems, but nothing really comes of it.

Log is right, sometimes a break is what we need. We can't take ourselves too seriously here, but at the same time we can't take anyone else too seriously here.
When people are really dealing with stuff and allow themselves to share, its really nice to see how many of these same posters show some real class and genuinely care about the other posters.
I think it's those times that keep people coming despite the waves of idiocy we see here from time to time.
Stick around Mr Kraken.

I do miss you in the general forum. We disagreed fairly often but I always considered you someone that helped me understand the disagreement more than just someone who wanted to spar over politics.

I learn much more from reasoned disagreement, so I try to encourage it.
Unfortunately most folks don’t look at it like that I’ve discovered. What a world it might be if multinational corporations or governments considered the greater good and the Socratic method ahead of individual profits.

Thank you Sir! Sometimes we just need somebody to give us perspective IMO.

For the record, years ago I added something that will block GD for you if you want it. Just send me a PM.

This. The forum needs more Spazz. We can never be Spazzy enough.

I think we can all agree that I'm probably the most thoughtful, reasonable and therefore best poster on this site while also maintaining being humble.
Same. My humility is my best trait. I'm humbler than anyone. The humblest. I'm the humblest person probably that ever lived. So humble. Bigly.

So I work in a High School and we are continually asked to fill out surveys just to ensure that the social climate is accommodating, no bullying, that sort of thing. As far as mods and enforcement, I really have no issues there. If I was a mod I don’t think I’d cowtow quite so much to the status quo and perhaps strive to be more magnanimous. (Not at all directed in your direction).
Lol. We get those surveys too. Administration doesn’t actually give a **** though. It’s just their way of “proving” to the BoE, Super and everyone else that they “care.” It’s checking a box.

Yeah that's my biggest complaint with the system, it's not what you're actually doing or what progress you're making that matters, it's how impressively you can dress it up and pitch it. At work now and about to get busy so I'll leave it at that.

I want to write a book. The Manipulation of Data: The American Way and the Downfall of a Once Great Nation.

I’d start with that Theranos ****, then go back in time and work forward.

I'd read that.

We do those in industry as well, employee satisfaction surveys. Tend to be useless but we have to do it so it seems like we are taking everyone's opinion into account. The issue is mostly the only answers are either from our stellar employees who love it here, or from the guy that just got his final written warning for harassment or attendance or poor performance and wants to bitch about everything and how bad it sucks because we hold people accountable. Not much actionable there at all.
