Trade deadline discussion

Joe desperately needs to be on the Conley plan of missing some games. Or heck, give him a couple weeks off. Between last year's playoffs, then the Olympics, then this season, he hasn't really had a break, he has to be exhausted. I think it would help.
I agree… I’d give him a week or two off but maybe he can keep doing work on his conditioning in the meantime. Definitely no reason he should play back to backs.

Barnes scales down very well. There's an outdated view of him from his DAL days that he needs shots/touches to be effective, but he's been a low usage player for the Kings and that's the role he's best suited for.

Conley is awesome defending from the bench in the playoffs.

It would be a miracle if he's 100% and not hurt or "coming back" from not being 100%.

You said why we don't need one of Conley, Mitchell and Clarkson when our perimeter defense is this bad. Why you are adding Conley who is the best one out of all by far to 2 abysmal defenders is beyond me. You can say Conley won't be there and that's okay even if it's kinda ridiculous as Jazz seem to do everything to keep him healthy this year.

Would you agree that if Clarkson and Mitchell were half as good as Conley on defense, it would help greatly?

Small clarification, I meant 2019 was his last good draft, Williams was in that draft. I know Celtic fans seemed to really have cooled on most other picks he'd made since then. One other nitpick, Doke was drafted right after Pritchard and he missed on Bane (like many people, to be fair.)

EDIT: upon further review, really the only hits he's had since about 2016 are Jaylen Brown, Tatum, and to a lesser extent Williams and Pritchard. Interesting.

Your point still stands, my brain just had to be annoying and clarify all that. Ainge should be better at drafting by default. At least, when we have picks again.
Pritchard is a solid pick as 26th overall even though they were better players like Bane taken after him, whereas Doke is a DedEx/Lyles/Burke type of bad miss.
Steven Adams, for example, was also drafted before Giannis but he's a solid rotation player in his own rights and justifies being the 13th overall in a pretty weak 2013 draft. Exum, Burke, Lyles and Doke are all bad misses that don't justify being at the positions where they were drafted. Bradley too.

Names that come to mind for me (bigger shakeups than a Watanabe type) - Kyle Anderson and Dorian Finney-Smith. Anderson would have to be basically a straight swap for Ingles, maybe minor value going 1 way or the other? Dorian Finney-Smith I think we could take into the Favors TPE and send a protected pick for.

I wouldn't mind something around a Barnes/Grant sort, but I don't really see a deal available that other teams wouldn't beat the offer on.
I was thinking Anderson would perhaps be the ideal trade (if Grizzlies were willing to entertain it), as he has the combination of length, rebounding, and secondary playmaking (though certainly not athleticism) that we crave. But then I realized that I'm wanting last year's Anderson, not this year's. He's declined too, for whatever reason. Maybe a deeper dive into him would give me more confidence? Maybe not?

He also has more ball skills, handling and passing than Royce does.

I mean Donovan has had injuries in 2 playoffs already. It’s unfortunate but it happens. There is no guarantee he will be hurt. This far the team has kept his minute load down. Lots of guys get hurt before and during the playoffs… moving Mike for another player does not guarantee health. PG, Kawhi, AD, Steph, CP3… have all had issues at points in their careers. When Mike has been healthy in the playoffs he’s been good. No reason to believe he won’t be healthy.

No reason- besides the fact that he’s never been healthy and he’s a year older. Ok.

He’s been healthy. He had the injury last year and was healthy the playoff before that… I guess it’s just like Chris Paul… he had that hamstring injury in the playoffs a few years ago and has had a sustained playoff run since… oh wait.

You're right - we don't know if he will be healthy or not.

If you take away the Memphis series when we were the #1 seed, we don't play that much differently with or without Conley. I think we actually won more without that with. And in the Memphis series, the only game we lost was the one Don sat.

I just think he could be used to address our major issues on defense. We won't win as currently constructed.

Bad. Here’s my post from a few weeks back:
I’ve also noticed a second weakness… it is just straight staying in front of guys. Seemed like the whole Warriors team was able to get a step with very little resistance. I think our whole anti-foul strategy is great and all but at some point I’d trade some of our lazy *** Euro fouls for some hand checking fouls on the perimeter of it means we get more physical on the perimeter.

I’ll make a longer post later but I know we suck at defense from a physical abilities standpoint, but I don’t believe this is purely inability. It’s a function of the system and the way we do things relying so much on Rudy that has made our perimeter defense get drastically worse each year, to the point where we literally can’t stay in front of anyone. Not hyperbole. We will never be in front of a guy if they try to get around us.
