A thread for the Conley haters

Top 30 is a bit rich for me, but definitely top 50.

Every year the team has been much better with Mike on than Mike off the floor.

I think for the last three seasons we have been worse with Donovan on vs Donovan off.

Mike definitely isn't the problem. People scapegoat him because they can't deal with having a real conversation about how overrated Donovan is

Missing Mike was elite at getting paid and taking our assets to get him.

3 postseasons and not one time did we win a playoff game because of him. Not once. Not one game.

Great dude. Good player. Awful trade.

Mike Conley "led" us to our only loss versus Memphis last year. You know who didn't play that game? Your scapegoat Donovan Mitchell. Good argument Cy lol

Explain that one Cy (the guy who was massively wrong about the Conley trade but won't admit it and claims that a career achievement All Star appearance made the trade valid).

Our whole team sucked against Dallas. Part of that angst is we brought him in as the missing piece, but three years later, we’ve made no progress.

It’s a bad contract from a player who probably isn’t going to get better at this age.

Overall Conley has been very good for us. He was absolutely awful in the Dallas series. There are a lot of reasons we lost that series, but Conley playing as bad as he did is pretty high up there.

I think most points of view regarding Conley are fair. He has been one of our most consistently good players on both sides of the ball for the majority of his time with us. He's never complained or created drama. He's a really good guy that chose to stay in Utah. In the end he didn't help us move the needle as far as playoff success. We likely would have the same results in each of our playoff runs had we signed anybody else.

Moving forward I think there is some mystery on what type of player he comes back as next year. I personally think his struggles this year were more mental than physical, but there is plenty of reason to think a player his age could be dropping off significantly physically. If he can get back to playing as well as he did for the majority of last year, then his contract is fine. If he has become the player he was towards the end of the year and in the playoffs, his contract is a big issue. Whatever the case, I think his time playing next to Donovan is likely over.

He was absolutely worthless against the Mavs but he was only one of a few. While the series isnt directly on him, he and his massive salary surely moved the needles backwards, not forward.

A guy his age and stature turning the ball over like he did in inexcusable.
His salary is not massive

Mike at his best I’ll take any day. Problem is that we’ll never see that dude again as he was already past his prime when we traded for him. Spilt milk but we leveraged our future and gave up way to much with the 2 first rounders (could’ve used Bazley), as well as Crowder and Allen that both made the most of their opportunity contributing nicely on Championship vying teams. The Conley we got is load managed and goes into the most prolonged slumps known to man. Personally, I’d do this trade in a heartbeat at this point:

Conley is a really good player with a really bad fit with this team. If we move on from Don and put a more dynamic 2 next to him it would interesting. Especially if we could improve at the 3 spot. I wouldn't pick him over Don, but they can't play together.

In the three series we were eliminated, we had a better record when Conley didn't play than when he did play.

And check this out: we went 38-18 in the last 3 regular seasons when Mike Conley sat. https://www.statmuse.com/nba/ask/utah-jazz-record-without-conley-since-2020

This thread is a sick joke. Calvin Chappell must be his yard guy or something. Jae Crowder would have helped us more the last 3 postseasons than Mike Conley did.

Do y'all think Lopo has alerts setup on his phone for whenever anyone talks positively about Mike Conley or says anything remotely critical of PrimaDonovan?

We are 22-15 without Mitchell and guess what 20-28 without Gobert in that same time frame.

Clown.

Not to mention Donovan has had a negative On/Off rating for the past 3 seasons.

Gobert has never had a negative on/off his entire career.

Donovan was -1.1 this year and -5.9 last year.

Gobert was +6.3 this year and +14.6 last year.

Conley was +4.4 this year and +11.9 last year.

The real problem is definitely Conley and Gobert though am I right?

I don't hate Conley. I just hate that we traded for him for too much value and using up a lot of cap to do it.

I have watched Memphis a lot, and the Mike we have seen has largely been consistent with his prior play. He had one really good playoff series, and then we traded for him (Mem traded him on a high). I like him as a player, he seems like a good locker room guy, and is composed on the court. However, I'd like to see more passion out of a player. IIRC, he has never had a technical in his career, which is kind of crazy. We need more leadership, passion and fire on the court, and he isn't the recipe for it.

I'm not a huge Crowder fan as I think he is too inconsistent, but we made the same mistake (on a smaller scale) that Ainge made with Boston. Trading away players with intensity and fire, taking away the teams heart and tenacity. Worse, we shrunk our backcourt in a league where size matters.

To be fair, a lot of this is because Gobert and Conley play a significant amount of minutes vs 2nd units.
