John Stockton: Writes Plea for Capitol Rioter

Protests are very appropriate form of exercising opinions and democracy, riots are not. January 6th was inexcusable. So were all of the BLM riots which set the current tone for rioting being acceptable. If you separate the 6th from the BLM ones it is only because it fits your political preference.
Oh sir, people don't want to have this conversation or pretend any relevance. Both can be bad, and both have been excused waaaaay to much by their respective side.

Like... storming the capitol and trying to force an election to not be certified? Like... this type of "believing their ideologies and politics are gods law"? It's shocking to me that publicly stated disagreement on an internet forum is the act tha tsome consider intolerant and "forcing an opinion", but actually storming the freaking Capitol while it's trying to certify an election is some benign "difference of opinion". No, actually one of them is protected speech and one of them is a crime. You can see which one is which by the fact that one of them is in front of court of law and awaiting sentencing and the other one can and is being challenged by other forum members openly and without any repercussions.
No one ****ing disagrees with this you moron. Would most people write a letter like that for someone they know who made a terrible mistake? Yeah. If I had a friend who did something so incredibly stupid I would not simply throw them under the bus. He didn't defend what the person did, he defended the persons character as he knows it.

Except, there was violence at only one BLM event, and they kicked out the guy that caused it (who later turned out to be a Jan 6 rioter). There was violence at many protests, but long after BLM was gone.
Nah.

Even (and especially) when we disagree, I have nothing but the utmost respect for you. I want to be clear on that. I have no desire to pull you into an argument, because I know you find them distasteful and oppressive.

Many people, due to the circumstances of their lives, found some of that light-hearted joking and hazing to be hurtful and impede their healing. I know it was not intended that way. However, I don't see the toxicity as having risen, but rather having been revealed. Further, at least when questioned, I've been pretty clear that I see myself as suffering from many of the same issues that I see in others. I see defensiveness as a refusal to a call to change, because who wants to change when things are perceived as good?
Right back at you with that respect, you are one of the posters where there can be some reasonable conversation despite the disagreement on many issues.

When I hear someone say "BLM riots" I know that they don't know what happened other than this idea in their head that BLM got onstage and said "Ready, set, BURN IT ALL DOWN!!!" and then violent protests ensued.

Official BLM demonstrations happened during daylight hours and specifically condemned violence and rioting. Well after BLM events were over people began to demonstrate independent of the BLM organization and many of those demonstrations become violent, primarily in the form of vandalism and property destruction.

There was an important message being delivered in the wake of the George Floyd murder. Luckily (sarcasm) many people have been able to avoid that message because there were violent protests that they point to while dismissing the idea that there is a real problem in our society that needs to be addressed.
Lol, plenty of things were smashed and looted during daylight hours even in SLC. You're a complete lying hack job. So do tell me, there were thousands of people at the capitol that day, only a small % of them looted the capitol. Does that make it better for you in that scenerio?

None of it was at the direction or encouragement of the BLM movement you ****ing simpleton.

Derp I'm oneeye and I got all hung up on the daylight vs nighttime part of a post when that wasn't really the point. I'm a simple minded idiot. derp derp derp

Every little chip that erodes democracy will be felt during our next election. That includes seemingly insignificant things like Stockton writing a letter in support of a friend. Trump has no interest in a peaceful election process. The way he ecouraged the coup attempt and sat back giddy like a teenager while it unfolded proves that Trump puts himself way above America. He would love a civil war over him in 2024. Does anyone really doubt that?

It was by the same people at the protests friend, sorry. We could all watch it live on our News feed. Can't hide it sorry moron.

When you say "same people" you mean black people, don't you?

The BLM organization condemned violence and vandalism. The BLM organizers were not the same people who engaged in violent protests.

Do you penalize attempted murder the same as you do murder that succeeds? amirite?

That wasn't even the point of what I said anyways.
No, it carries the penalty of attempted murder, since it isn't murder. What they did was sedition and that is the punishment they should receive. If they had been closer to succeeding in their coup attempt then it would carry the punishment for treason. In lots of ways it falls in between the two.

And that is how your comment came across to me. That since 9/11 couldn't topple the republic then what they did on Jan 6th doesn't matter since they didn't even come as close as 9/11 did, so why make a big deal of it. If that isn't what you intended I am sorry if I mischaracterized your comments. But that is how I read it.

During a BLM event? If not, this is moving the goalposts.

I would say a few hundred is better than, or at least not as bad as, a few thousand.

I actually haven't commented on what punishment they should receive other than to respond to your attempted murder rabbit hole.
I only thought that the storming event could have ended our democracy idea was quite a stretch. I think that line of thinking is severely underestimating our government. That's chicken little stuff man.

Punish them how they need to be punished for doing something stupid. What do I care, but your murder/attempted murder whatever comparison wasn't even anything I was wading in.

This is NOT what he did and said though. He doesn't say she made a terrible mistake, he doesn't say she did something incredibly stupid... in fact what he says is that he doesn't believe she broke the law. This is AFTER SHE PLEADED GUILTY.

Wait is @babe John Stockton? Makes sense.
I haven't grown my beard nor moved to the woods north of Gonzaga, yet.

I support most of the defendants arrested for minor things after being suckered into the capital by an FBI sting operation to set up nutjobs of the far right by pretending to be even worse nutjobs. I advise anyone who has "patriotic" notions to take due notice of how Putin was suckered into Ukraine by Biden giving him high oil prices and an infamous idiotic statement about how it would be OK if Putin took a slice of Ukraine.

Anyone who believes stuff for face value in todays political climate is a fool, but going to marches or riots is asking for trouble. Stay home and pray.

The political left is showing their *** to the whole wide world when they block speedy trial and jury verdicts for their opponents.

It was brilliant of the FBI to use Trump and his allies as the prime motivators to get the far right nutjobs to fall for their trap. I bet Trump gets a secret medal for his role in this sting operation. Funny part is he could do it again and again and the far right nutjobs will never realize he's working directly with the FBI and CIA and the deepstate to expose them.

Absolute genius move to have Trump spout all this far right, racist, militant nationalistic rhetoric to get the scum of America to self identify by signing on to his movement and run around in bright red MAGA hats and trucks with bastardized (mutilated) American flags, punisher decals, gaudy U.S. flag clothing, etc.. For a long time these idiots were in hiding but Trump is like the Pied Piper bringing them all out of the shadows so that we can all get a good look at who the real enemies of the U.S. are.

On that note: we see you now babe. We see who you are. You're an enemy of the U.S.. You will lose because the U.S. is great.
