Quotes from around the league on the Gobert trade to the Timberwolves

Every GM in the league should be blocking Ainges number

I would be surprised if KD goes for more than this, this is just an awful trade for Minnesota. **** if you’re the Jazz go see if you can flip some of that for KD.

Five firsts for Gobert. Now imagine what the Nets will get for Durant.

Multiple unprotected too, holy ****!

1 meh first was enough for jerami grant. The wolves traded 5 of them for a contract that was supposed to be hard to move

Teams were going to have to pony up picks for KD anyway. What just happened with Rudy served as a reminder lol

People saw that “young star+3 firsts rumor” and just got hip checked by the reality now Gobert got moved for all this lol

Dude, the irony that all these desperate small market teams really ****ing up the price market for everyone else

3 of them unprotected, TWolves really held a gun to Utah’s head and said “take my money”

5 picks for Gobert? He’s a good player but 5 ****ing firsts?

Fire Minnesota’s GM

People are underrating Gobert. Gobert alone can elevate a team to a top 3 defense, they’re for sure going to be at least the 5th seed. If the team implodes then they are ****ed for the future though

Honestly 5 firsts is crazy. A massive contract that nobody expected more than a first or 2 for

LMAO Wolves got majorly fleeced holy ****

It's 2007 all over again. Ainge fleecing the Wolves, name a more iconic duo.

Scoring guards are everywhere. A defensive anchor big that can move and improve your entire defense AND get your best player in his natural position…. Worth a lot more.

This is a classic Danny Ainge move Cs fans are accustomed to.

Gobert gonna be way better now on a team where isnt the only non-dog **** defender

Jazz gonna turn walker kessler into the next Gobert

If I'm the wolves, what else am I doing with those assets? KDs probably not realistic without gutting the team (kat/ant).

I love that they're trying this.

Disgusting haul. Regardless of what happens with Mitchell I think the Jazz will be sitting pretty.

Bro I huge gobert fan and wanted raptors to get him

But this is insanity

Wolves GM just made Nets GM hell. KD gonna be back on the nets this season lol. That’s way too many picks for Rudy

Would be pretty funny if whoever got KD gives up less tbh

Biggest overpay in NBA history lmfao

We needed interior defense and rebounding. We just picked up the defensive player of the year for bench players and picks that will hopefully stay out of the lottery. If they do, we win the trade. If we falter and KAT and Gobert don't work, this will be a terrible look. Also, looks like the Wolves have the best frontcourt in the league now :)

franchise ruining move lol

Holy overpay Batman!

that's a lot of picks. Also, we know how frustrated Rudy got with Mitchell running the show in Utah, how is he going to feel about D'Lo looking him off or KAT's mental lapses?

Oh good god Minnesota why

This is never a good idea unless you want an excuse to suck for the next decade.

Please give me a Utah Pat Bev reality show

Wow okay amazing haul for Utah holy ****

This is what the 125% rule creates. Basketball assets are essentially 5 options in this order: Superstar max player, potential player on rookie salary, potential player after rookie extension, draft picks, salary filler. If you want to trade for a superstar player you need to give up a something of equal or lesser value but if you want to keep your players you make up that value in draft picks. The wolves didn’t trade any player of real note so they made up the difference in picks.

Holy cow Utah did a great job. That's an amazing return for him

Teams will give up their entire G league team and 11 first round picks for KD at that this point

I can’t believe how many picks the TWolves just gave up… literally their future for Gobert

Who was Minny bidding against? Massive overpay

Lmao five first round picks?! Jesus, Minnesota wtf…you already have a big too

5 picks and Vanderbilt is a CRAZY price to pay for a 30 year old one dimensional big making almost as much money as Giannis

Zach Lowe: "I am in disbelief at the amount of draft picks the Minnesota Timberwolves traded for Rudy Gobert. Disbelief!"

Danny Ainge really like a monster that sleeps for a decade and appears for one week to sucker you into a garbage trade that ruins your bloodline and future

He is the boogieman newbie GMs get told about

Dude it's literally the entire decade's worth of picks....

And if Ant makes All NBA, then you're gonna be giving 50 million a year to 3 different players

You traded more capital than the Lakers did for Anthony Davis

I think they probably will. He was Utah fans homegrown guy so they never really turned on him despite his repeated failures, but Minnesota fans don't have that loyalty AND they just gave away 3 rotation pieces and 4 (arguably 5) first round picks for him. I could see the Wolves fanbase-Gobert relationship getting pretty ugly in a couple years

This might go down as one of the all-time worst trades, or best. I really don't know

5 out line ups are gonna run rudy and kat off the floor

Danny is in heaven right now

–we will give you Gobert and you give me all your future for this big *** contract
–ok
–wait, really?

Malika Andrews: “If this is what Rudy Gobert commands, what exactly is Kevin Durant going to command?” Richard Jefferson: “France.”

The wolves drafted 3 first overall draft picks in the last decade. They have zero to show for it. They had to make this move, it’s their best shot to win it all now. There is no super team and Minny would never attract star free agents. Gobert also covers a big issue Minny had last season. Huge gamble but the gamble a small market team has to make.

Gobert is in that sweet spot of being incredibly good and being willing to play in Minnesota.

It isn’t like they’re going to be in for guys like Donovan Mitchell. A bird in the hand, man.

Was it an overpay? Maybe, but I'm really interested to see KAT and Gobert working together. They're literally polar opposite players.

Minnesota is shooting their shot and trying to put winning pieces around KAT and Edwards. I respect it.

It was an absolutely massive overpay. Basically 5 (!!) first round picks.

The Jazz were top 5 in both offensive and defensive rebounding while starting only 1 player averaging 5 rebounds a game. Think about how ridiculous that is. Rudy’s a ****ing monster on the boards.

He also get fouled like crazy on rebounds. Draws more fouls a game than Harden or Morant if you can believe it.

I think the front court fit is incredible. Best front court in the league now, imo. But the price is… kinda crazy. However, I think sometimes you have to overpay. And if the Wolves think it’s worth it who am I to say it’s not?

I think the fit's gonna be great, and the Wolves will probably be good next year, but they just gave up sooo much for a 30 year old on a max contract for the next 4 years who doesn't really perform on offense. I think the Wolves will be good in the short term, but I just worry about their future

It makes sense on paper but god damn it's expensive

I mean love my man Murray but Rudy is a 3x DPOY him and Dejounte aren't really in the same ballpark..I think Wolves overpaid but I understand slightly why it happens

How do you put this package together and hand it to Utah when KD is right there

Utah is in a really good position no matter what they do. If they tank and trade Mitchell, they can stockpile a crazy amount of assets like OKC. If they re-tool, they can hopefully find another star to pair with Mitchell with these picks and their own.

Nothing to complain about for their side of the trade.

Dude this feels like a fever dream. They gave up 5 frps for one of the most toxic contracts in the league. I legit thought it was unmovable before this summer. This is an all time heist by Utah. Minnesota now has 80 million wrapped up in centers. Holeeeeee ****

Gonna spend the next 48 hours...wondering if Minnesota just made the most inexplicable NBA overpay trade of all time.

No need to wonder. They massively overpaid. Name a bigger overpay. They did it though because T'wolves have a little something going and they are shooting their shot.

Center is the least important offensive position and the most important defensive one. He's very very good on defense.

You can't trade another 1st until 2031. 2031. For Rudy Gobert.

If it was upto me I would trade 1 pick for Rudy. Keep Rudy away from my team unless he’s making 7-10 million. Im not paying that clown like a star. Such a horrific deal.

Kevin Durant will be traded for less then Rudy Gobert

I don’t see how the Suns or Miami even come close to 4 unprotected first plus this years first rounder. I’m not saying Gobert is better. You just aren’t getting more than this offer.

The Timberwolves are the only team in NBA history to have 2 players that have a $200M + contract.

Rudy Gobert and Karl-Anthony Towns are both making $200M and they’re both on the same league. Funnily enough, there are only 3 centers in the league that make $200M and 2 of them are now on the same team. The other center is Nikola Jokic.

Minnesota paying two super maxes is crazy

At the same position. And about to have to pay Ant.

this is the kinda bomb we've been waiting for. FA starts now

I hate that this is how the fellowship ends, but can't deny that Minny paid us a premium.

And I don't know about you, but as a fan, I'm suddenly very re-invested in this season just to see how things work out even if it's a cluster knowing we've got a truckload of assets where none existed 24 hours ago.

Danny Ainge really like a monster that sleeps for a decade and appears for one week to sucker you into a garbage trade that ruins your bloodline and future

He is the boogieman newbie GMs get told about. This comment cracks me up. I am going to miss Rudy but getting this many draft picks makes the lessens the loss for me. Ainge is a master negotiated. I am glad he is on the Jazz.

Thanks! I was reading some TWolves Reddits earlier hoping you'd do this.

If Danny somehow turns Conley, Bogie, JC and DM into more young talent and draft picks, the Jazz organization might have to build a statute of him near Stockton and Malone.

Conley yes, but let’s not get carried away here, the man has done enough already…anyway it’s time for his nap.
