Gobert to Minnesota

Lou Dort and a hella picks from OKC?

I don’t think OKC is a buyer and Dort can’t be traded….but I think you want something more than Dort. You want a high draft pick included or a young player of high caliber….like Haliburton good. What made the Paul George package over the top was that they got Shai, who was still developing but it was obvious he was going to be pretty good. We should demand that level of young player and all the picks.

That type of trade package might not be available right now, but it’s the one we should hold out for. I think the “all the picks” package without a true premium prospect will be permanently available with Don.

Rudy is going to be making 44/46M when he's 32/33 years old, could easily be one of the worst and least moveable contracts in the league in a few years. Donovan has shown he can score at a historic level in the playoffs, Rudy has gotten his arse busted by Nic Batum and Maxi Kleber.
Name 1 player Don shut down defensively in the last 3 years.

You may need therapy then because you should be in love with Ainge. The guy is the savior of this franchise. We went from no future to a bright future in 24 hours.
The Jazz had the NBAs best record 2 years ago. This season they gave Mitchell more opportunities and the Jazz fell back hard.

Don has the 7th highest PPG average in NBA playoff history behind Jordan, West, Iverson, Durant, Luka, and LeBron.
He also took over 20+ games the Jazz were leading going into 4th quarters, then the Jazz lost.
Now show me who Mitchell shut down defensively. You can cause he hasn't.

Who was the last team in the NBA to win a title built around a big like Rudy? Who did Steph shut down on the Warriors path to the title this season?

This...

Donovans role is not to shut down opposing teams. Its to put the ball in the hoop.

We need a draymond green and Klay Thompson to compliment Spida.

We either pick up those pieces with some of our new shiny picks and our old reliable pieces OR we rebuild. We will learn shortly.

We need a lot of things, but a fractured locker room is not one of them. I hope that is over, and it’s a fresh start or we will need to ship out even more players. Honestly that helps the players and the team. Fresh start, here we come. The next things we need are good coaching and legit star players.

Summer league will be a lot more fun to watch now with Kessler on the team.
The trade won't be finalized by the end of the moratorium. Not sure if Kessler can actually get traded right now. Maybe he plays in Vegas? But I doubt he does in SLC SL.

Ok I’m dumb. What’s so exciting about future first round picks from a team that will be really good and the pic is likely to be 20-22 or thereabouts. While getting significantly worse at the same time ???
The exciting bit IMO is the following:
- a few of those picks are way out in the future. Minnesota has not shown ability to consistently build winning teams and there is enough uncertainty that unprotected picks 3-4(swap)-5 years in the future and just top 5 proteted in 7 years IMO are good bets.
- we just got a 3d 1st round pick in what is supposed to be stacked draft next year. It gives Ainge maneuvarability... whether he wants to to retool or target specific target in next year's draft, the MIN 2023 unprotected pick is a good asset to have.
- IF we are going tank mode, the best pick from that trade becomes OUR OWN. You didn't trade for it, but that picks just acquired A TON of equity that it didn't have before.

In Tony Jones latest article he says the Jazz initially insisted that Jaden McDaniels be part of the package coming back to the Jazz and Minnesota refused, instead, they upped their picks package substantially and the Jazz agreed to a deal. He says the Jazz believe they can develop Kessler and Vanderbilt and use the other players and picks to try and re-tool the roster on the fly.

Says the Jaz are determined to keep Mitchell and build the roster around him on the fly...but if Ainge receives an offer that approaches the scale of the Gobert trade he will listen. For now the plan is for him to be with the Jazz next season. Also says the Jazz will need to have conversations with Donovan to make sure they have buy-in from him before they build the roster around him.
This sounds like posturing. If you are truly sold on Mitchell as a franchise player who is capable of leading you to the chip, you DO NOT trade that(unless he demands a trade I guess), pretty much no matter what package of picks you get. This is a philosophical thing... it's not a "I can do this or I can do that"... you should know exactly what you want to do right now, no ifs and buts... The very fact that there is this "but if we receive a trade we can't refuse" tells you that they are angling towards inviting such offers. To me they know what they want to do. It's not up in the air. They either are sold on Donovan as THE GUY, or they are posturing to increase leverage and potential value extracted from a trade. Now, that's not to say that they will trade him right away, maybe the package is not available right now, but they are setting the stage for it IMO. Whether now, or in 1 mont or at the trade deadline or next summer.

Mitchell is not a better player, but he should get more in a trade package. I think what you’re looking for with Mitchell is a similar pick package, but also a premium young player/guaranteed high draft pick.
Ooooh... something just lit up in my head. We already have 3 picks in next year's draft. What's the chance Ainge tries to sell Mitchell at next year's draft for a high pick?

I am really sad to see Gobert go. Plenty of players I have rooted for in a Jazz jersey but this just hits different. It sucks that it didn't work out for reasons he carried the least blame but this is an offer you can't refuse. All the luck and success for you Rudy, go kill it.

Whether the Jazz want to tank or retool on the fly, at least they have a direction now. Picks may not end up high but their range of use will be vast. And whether it's intended or not, Jazz are probably going to lose more games than they did, so it's all good.

Please stop wasting your time. These guys simply don't get it. It's okay. They just don't understand. They are enamored by DPOY awards and trendy little regular season stats.

Truth is, Danny Ainge just got us an amazing draft haul, 2 proven NBA players, and 3 young players with loads of potential for a player who at no point in his entire career has dominated a playoff series. Not once.

This has a very good chance to go down as the worst trade in NBA history. I'm just so glad that we are on the other side.
