I think Jazz fans realize that DMs defensive liabilities due to lack of size and/or level of effort are a real issue with taking this team to the next level. The concern that DM is not committed to being here for the long haul makes fans want to get the best returns and avoid a Hayward scenario. The DM asset needs to be traded at a higher value to get a different mix of talent for this team. I don't think this equates to hate.
 
I think about 90% of people don’t actually hate him. I think there is a small percentage that actually do feel some resentment towards him.

Hell, I’ve been his biggest champion and if the opportunity presented itself with a godfather offer you take it. I’d rather try to grab some guys to help us win but I get the reasoning behind trading him.

Why didn't they dislike Rudy when he was significantly worse offensively than Don is defensively?

Not even close to true.

Rudy’s offense is limited, but he is very very good within those limits. He is also one of the best defenders in this generation.

Don is not one of the best offensive players in this generation, and his defense doesn’t shine in any area at all.

Rudy's offensive limitations were exposed in the playoffs the last two years which is why teams went small and exposed us defensively. If he had any type of post game, you can't go small against us, but he couldn't score on Kleber or Batum.
