Jazz and Knicks discussing Donovan Mitchell trade per Shams Charania and Tony Jones

You don’t even entertain them if the picks aren’t unprotected. If the Knicks are offering protected picks and the Heat are offering unprotected that’s where the deals can start looking very similar value wise.
Exactly part of the reason I've never really considered Miami to be a real player in this. Maybe I'm missing something, but do we have solid reports that Miami is trying to offer all their picks unprotected? Or just our own speculation?

(Whatever 4th pick they might possibly be able to scrounge up will almost surely be protected).

Another reason why we should like the deal with Miami/Dallas is they keep Robinson which is a win-win because we don’t have to take him and him plus Bertans really keeps them from freeing up cap space for a few years. Donovan can opt out before the 2026 season. His last season before his player option 2025 so their 1st that year we wouldn’t own (OKC does) but after that we’d get pick swaps in 26/28 and their picks in 27/29. It could get pretty juicy right around that time.

Because they have limited assets we get it all basically. The Knicks have a lot of stuff but don't want to give it all. They'd like to give 1% more than the highest bidder.

I think Danny is more patient than the Knicks. I think if it gets messy for us it gets messy for Donovan and the Knicks. We are still like 5-6 weeks away from it being messy... so either they cave, we find a better offer elsewhere, or we wait it out.

I didn't believe we could win a title with everything built around Rudy. It's not hate; it's an opinion.
You don’t simply build around Mitchell or Gobert. The problem is they took a bunch of scrap parts and threw them around Gobert and Mitchell, then our idiot coach told michell to score and told Gobert to be this teams defense. You absolutely can build around the tandem of Gobert and Don. But it was never going to happen how that team was constructed.

Tell the Knicks to come back next offseason with a top-10 lottery pick as the centerpiece of their trade offer for Donovan. Then hang up the phone.

I think things will move once the Brooklyn situation is resolved... either by trading KD or if they move Kyrie or it comes out that they aren't moving either guy. I think KD's best play is to stay in Brooklyn but have Kyrie get moved. Ky can take all the stink/blame and KD can stay with Ben and whatever they get for Kyrie.

The market is just so constipated until that domino falls. There are also a ton of extension negotiations that need to happen... teams will want answers soon.

Ah, says the guy who never brings content. You're nothing but spin talking about me spinning. Funny....

You're like my wife who wants to talk more about "my tone" instead of the fact that I was correct about something.
Your wife might be saying that because, based on your posts on these forums, you don’t sound emotionally balanced or mature. I don’t mean that as a slight - the pandemic has been hard on everyone. But if you’re not currently in therapy, you should definitely start. Get well.

Lol. Okay buddy. Not a slight at all.

Get married and maybe you could have some perspective.

I wish OKC would make a play for Mitchell. They have an assload of picks. Miami is too good a team - their unprotected picks are not nearly as appealing as the ****** NYK.

If he didn't want out wouldn't he be out here calling these reports BS and stuff... wouldn't he have said some things to refute it.

I think the rumors were there all along but it hit a critical point with the unnerved report. Think that carefully crafted article that came out 3 minutes after the announcement generated some conversation between us and CAA to get them to STFU and play nice or it gets ugly. If we found CAA/Knicks tampering there could be hefty fines and penalties.

Rebuilding was always a possibility but I think Ainge went into the offseason with full flexibility and then found a huge deal he liked that skewed us towards rebuilding.
No one knows what happens behind closed doors or in DM's life. People latch on to a narrative and then speculate about the situation as though they know the facts. Is it so unusual in today's media for them to speculate on something for 2 years? No, it is not! They have to fill those airwaves with something. I haven't heard one word come out of DM's mouth requesting a trade. Could he do it privately? Of course he could. DM doesn't seem like the type who has to go out and refute all the nonsense said about him. He didn't immediately address the Rudy situation. He finally did after weeks of speculation and his response was, we talked it out. Yet fans and the media continue to bring it up even after he addressed it. So, him not addressing this situation shouldn't be so shocking. Again, people believe what they want to believe some people love DM and others love Rudy but in my experience the truth is somewhere in between what people think they know. Usually in relationships there is blame on both sides.

For me, part of me is very sad to see both guys leave. I truly loved watching them play. I don't blame either for not winning a championship. I blame the front office baking the cake without the right ingredients. I wish them both well. I will cheer for them to be success except when it benefits the Jazz. I will greet them with a kind reception when they return to SLC. It will be weird seeing them in different uniforms. Change is always inevitable, and it is time to do it. I am glad we have a GM who knows what he is doing.

I've only been married for 33 years, but I think I've learned enough to say that tone (as used by any spouse) matters more than being correct. tone indicates respect and affection, being correct does neither.
I'm only clocking in at 22 years married. I have a tendency to roll my eyes which I've largely trained myself out of when talking to my wife for as many times as that has become the focus of the "discussion" once it happens.

My mother in law in the Heat of an argument with my father in law said “don’t use logic on me”. It wasn’t what she meant but it also was everything she meant ya know.

They were all from reputable places. He could also just say anything on the Jazz... He told some NY folks at the baseball game he wasn't talking basketball.. he liked a tweet about a dude coming home from NY and asking him if he was going to be there... we'll see he said. He has basically pled the fifth... which is fine. But zero comments on the Jazz. If he didn't want out it would be quite easy for him to simply say "welcome coach hardy!"

Its so clear there is an understanding now... its clear to me when it started as well... when he was unnerved and shocked by an event you could totally see coming and had CAA release and article through Woj that was clearly prepared well ahead of time.

He likely has not asked for a trade but said his preference is to be somewhere else. If it drags and it looks like he won't get what he wants his team will get more public.
Why are you surprised that DM was shocked that Quin quit, and Royce was traded? It surprised pretty much everyone on this board. So why wouldn't it surprise DM too? It wasn't clear that Synder was going to quit. People were wanting him to quit. Of course, there is an understanding now because DM is professional enough to know if he complains he could screw up the trade. I think he has a right to want to go now considering the Jazz telling him they are going to do what is best for the organization. Besides not wanting to be in total rebuilt in the prime of his career.
