Jazz and Knicks discussing Donovan Mitchell trade per Shams Charania and Tony Jones

You mean a foul?
Maybe, but he requires a lot space to operate. Just get to the spots quicker than him. He is playing against no one who plays NBA level defense. It is like watching him play in a gym by himself. I think he will crumble with some legit talent guarding him or double teaming.

Hold out until you get at least 3 Knicks picks unprotected. But also... if I can get the Milwaukee and Washington picks at a lower value I might try and finesse my way to improving those picks by negotiating with NOP (they get the Bucks pick if it lands top 4) and Wiz. Like say you get Quickley and turn to the Wizards and say "hey we will send you this awesome combo guard if you remove protections on that pick... would also help you trade other picks if you want". That pick goes from meh to NOICE real quick.

With NO you could get them to remove top 4 protections and maybe snag another pick for sending them Bev for Devonte Grahamn. I know Jose Alvarado cute and all but they could still use Bev next to CJ/Ingram/Zion.

Coming from you, I’m more confident in Vic than ever.

I mean he could be a Dirk/Rudy type combo. At very least a guy that size that moves that well can be a terror on defense. The dribble moves become an issue as guys move under him. He will also have NBA talent around him setting him up and vice versa.

I'm not nearly as patient as Ainge. I just want the deal to get done so we can move on.

I'm at least as patient as Ainge. I don't see why we'd move Mitchell unless we're certain to get a top-10 lottery pick back in the deal. It behooves us to sit back and watch how the season plays out and do our draft research.

I would have tried to move Mitchell before the last draft, but now that this hasn't happened, it's better to wait until next cycle. Hold him until the trade deadline or next draft.

A prospect all his own is what I’d say. But if we’re using comps he’s in-between Gobert and KD in terms of talent: not as naturally skilled at the game as KD nor as good as Gobert on D. One hell of a tweener.
I want to see what he looks like 5 years from now after following the Giannis Antetokoumnpo diet and training regimen.

He looks to have freakish athletic potential like that.

Yeah, the NBA is a famous for not having spacing for it's players to operate.

Just get to the spots quicker than him? HE IS AT LEAST SEVEN FOOT 3 INCHES.

There are plenty of players in Europe who are very good defenders.

He's played against a lot of legit talent. He's part of French Basketball, one of the most talent stacked countries outside of America. I'm sure he has trained against Rudy Gobert.

If I’m the Knicks do I trade all of that for Donovan knowing what I know about him?

Yes. You’re the ****ing New York Knicks. You’ve made the playoffs 5 times in the last 20 years.

Get the superstar now and figure the rest out later.

If you are dead set on keeping the 2029 1st then offer 23/25/27 unprotected with 3 of the other 4 1sts you have. Make this **** happen.

Toronto could be a really interesting suitor for Donovan. They can pony up 3-4 of their own first and swaps confidently. OG is a guy that gets two good firsts or more from a suitor. Trent Jr. could also net something in a multi-team scenario... imagine they miss on KD or KD just says he isn't going anywhere.

You could do Donovan for OG/Trent Jr. 3 unprotected firsts (24/26/28). Send OG to NOP for Grahamn/Temple, one of their own firsts (top 4 protected) and the Bucks first they own in 2027 unprotected... Trent Jr. goes to LA in the much mentioned Westbrook deal where we land a first or two. You've gathered 6+ firsts basically unprotected and taken back minimal bad salary. These are the scenarios you can use to push NY in right now. I'd rather bet against 3-4 franchises (Toronto, NO, LA, Bucks-in 4 years) than just one... even if that one is really mostly ******.

24/26/28 unprotected 1sts will be fine too. That would mean we have two 1sts in every draft for the rest of the decade.

I do think its a little wild they are at this point and feel pretty confident and like they can wait us out. The longer they wait the more opportunity we have for a good offer to sneak in that beats their B+/A- version of what they can offer.

NOOOOO! We absolutely want the 2023 pick unprotected... so 23/26/28 is acceptable. It also helps them because next year they could trade 24/30 with Barrett or someone for their second star.

Exactly. We’ve discussed Miami for awhile and they are one trade away from being able to put together a competitive offer. That’s just one team. Orlando could sweep in so could Toronto.
