What's new

Name a player that wouldve won Stockton & Malone rings.

One can only hope…

We still need to unload Mitchell. Those minny picks (that’ll be late 1st round) aren’t going to be near enough to rebuild.
Good point! Hopefully Mitchell’s stock rises and we get those picks. If it doesn’t and we get more of the same - a test to see if Ainge can locate this year’s Bane and Jones. Always a few sleepers in the mix.

They should’ve just kept Dominique Wilkins. Hopefully they still would’ve ended up with Stockton and Malone, but the Jazz never should’ve made that trade.
I think the jazz probably pick a few slots later

Eaton
Dantley// Bailey
Wilkins
Griffith
Green// Stockton

That’s a pretty stacked team in 84 that team might be picking in the 20’s instead of 13, Malone is probably gone before their pick comes up. Stockton is probably still the pick in 84.

Yea, if Stock was the perfect combination of Curry, Westbrook... and well... himself... we would have won a million championships. He would grab the defensive rebound, go coast to coast, try to dunk it, back rim it, get his own rebound, step back for a three, and before he hits it do a shimmy, after it splashes he would put it to bed and saunter down the court until it's time to play defense.
Then on other plays, when he has to he will pass the ball to Malone and only Malone to boost his assist numbers. Forget those other yokels, they don't deserve the rock.

Boom... dynasty.

In retrospect that makes sense but Dominque had been clear that he didnt want to play in Utah and the Jazz were just trying to survive.

Imagine either...

Camby
Malone
Russell
Richmond
Stockton

Or

Camby
Malone
Russell
Houston
Stockton

LHM wouldn't put talent around S&M. Even without that talent we still had two amazing runs in 97 & 98.

LHM is the reason the Jazz are in Utah and he took enormous personal risk in doing so. I would have loved to have gotten more talent but I cant fault him in anyway for how he chose to spend his money.

Marcus Camby in 97.
Mitch Richmond in 97.

Championship.
Camby was on his rookie three year deal that didn’t expire til 1998. We couldn’t have gotten him. We didn’t have the assets.

Richmond’s deal didn’t expire til 1998 either. He might’ve been possible to trade for had we included a couple 1sts.

meh, allan houston wasn't much better than hornacek - if at all. Houston back then was about a 15-18 ppg guy, but his TS% in 97 and 98 was abysmal. low .500s. Jeff Hornacek was about 12-14 ppg but his TS% for back then was pretty elite in the high .500s. there was no contest in terms of efficiency. Houston, i think one could argue was better defensively, but he was no world beater on that end either. Hornacek was the far superior passer/playmaker.

yeah, the more i look at it and think about it, Hornacek was absolutely a better player. the only thing Houston had on Horny was maybe defense, but again, not by much. if we can't choose stars from back then - give me an elite wing defender like Eddie Jones, Ron Harper, Aaron McKie - somebody who could at least make things tough on MJ.

Hornacek at the end of his career was not better than Houston at age 26-31. Hornacek couldn't create his shot like Allan, nor was he as clutch as Allan, and he couldn't attack the basket as well, nor was he as athletic as Houston. (Btw 1999 Playoffs Houston was hitting clutch basket after clutch basket). The problem with Houston is his unselfish play, he'd take the backseat for Latrell, Grant Hill, but that's exactly what we needed. We needed a guy who'd occasionally go off for 30-40 points like Houston, hit a clutch basket when we needed it. And I'm certain Stockton wouldve set Houston up far better than Sprewell, Ward & Chris Child's were.

Hornacek, I believe only had one 30 point game 97-retirement.

Watch how Houston, though red hot gets role players like Kurt Thomas, and Chris Child's involved.

Look at how he creates shots for himself out of a triple threat, isos. This is what we desperately needed in the 90s was a player that could take the game over on any level of the floor.

If you don't think Allan would've thrived in a selfless system like Sloan's, idk what to tell you.

Btw this was the game that took NY to the Finals. Who stepped up? Allan Houston. Was Hornacek doing this in 96? 97? 98? 99!?

Hornacek also had the privilege of playing with Stockton and playing off of Malone as well.
