Hawks signing Forrest

Let's put it this way.

If D'Angelo Russell and Thomas Satoransky have spent considerable parts of their careers guarding PGs, I 'm not really worried about Bolmaro's ability there. I'd rank his defensive upside as higher than both of theirs.

The litmus is less can or can’t and more will or won’t.

Bolmaro won’t outside of switches.

NAW is under contract, but okay.

Bolmaro isn’t a guard. Also under contract.

Juzang won’t make the roster. It’s not even worth mentioning.

Your Conley take is insulting. Also, he’s… wait for it… under contract.
News alert!!! We can trade guys under contract!! And your take on Bolmaro isn't the one I've seen in print recently.

Sure -- that's all TBD, though. We'll see where he ends up in the Jazz's system.

I watched much of the two games Bolmaro played the most minutes in last year for the Wolves -- against the Nets and the Hawks.
  • Against the Nets, he guarded Harden defensively a fair amount of the time (by design, not just switches) when Harden was the clear PG on the floor for the Nets
  • When Patty Mills came in and was playing PG, Bolmaro started the possessions on him most of the time
  • Against the Hawks, Bolmaro started and was clearly the primary defender against Trae Young, usually picking him up 3/4 court after made baskets.
At this point I'm trusting Bolmaro more as PG on defense than offense, though I also think that if he ultimately develops his offense, he'll be better off in a ball-handling role.

Also, just as a reminder of what people were thinking of Bolmaro's defense before he entered the league (great feet defensively is a key takeaway, for those who'd rather not read):

According to JD Shaw, Hawks taking on Forrest. One less temptation at guard for the Jazz this year, I guess.
So glad he’s gone. Nice defender and. Slasher, but a lead guard that can’t shoot is a hindrance, and in the playoffs that’s unplayable. Maybe he will make himself a better shooter, but as of now I don’t care.

Perfect, while we’re busy filling our last spot with a G League flunkie, we let a former young rotation piece get away. Seems like we could’ve traded some of our guard corps to resign Trent. Trying to rationalize last year’s first round pick it sounds like.

Talk about an organization that still can’t see the Forrest for the trees.
This post is the perfect example as to why I don’t know if I can stomach a rebuild because this is the EXACT type of **** that’s going to be argued about on here for the next 2-3 years.

Im not always right, but I can promise you this: This rebuild will neither succeed or fail based on decisions made on the Trent Forrests of the world.

Balmero is turnover prone based on what I saw in summer league Defensively I was focused but offensively he left his feet with no where to go lots of times. Amateurish.

Then again, Forrest was Snyder's excuse to not play Butler and foe that reason, I am happy he is gone. Forrest's ceiling is WAY lower than Butler's.

Just another reminder why I am glad Quin is gone.

I saw Jared Butler at a Bee's game recently. I'm 6'1 and I'm pretty sure he looked up at me when I said hi. He short.
That’s funny cause at 6’0” I could actually see Mike Tyson’s scalp when I shook his hand several years ago. (Course my biggest concern was him separating my spine with an upper cut as I kind of surprised him and his eyes were glazed over.)

And of course you’re correct that Butler is no legit 6’3”.

Danny saw something in Paschal and Forrest he didn't like. Plus Forrest was ineligible to sign another two way contract with the Jazz and the fact the Jazz didn't offer a regular deal says a lot.

I remember the game vs the Raptors where Forrest and Butler had 15 turnovers between them. That was the game that Paschal had 29 and Hughes had 26 points. Those are too many turnovers if you want to be an NBA guard.

Should have been signed to a regular contract. Good for Hawks.
