Trade Confirmed: Jazz get jack for Bogey

I actually do understand it if getting a late, protected FRP also meant taking an undesirable contract such as Duncan Robinson or Landry Shamet. The Bucks really don't have picks to trade. Obviously the Lakers were not going to part with an unprotected pick.

Jazz are now an additional $7mil under the tax threshold which should help in future deals.

FWIW I do think Olynyk is a better fit on this roster especially when you consider Markkanaen and 2 raw centers could be getting big minutes this coming season. Ofc Ainge could end up dealing Olynyk by the deadline too.

I would've done Bogey, JC and Beasley or Conley to the Lakers for one 1st and a swap before this trade. Hell, I probably even would've done it for one 1st and a couple of seconds.

I think the Stars are aligning. Lee and Elijah Hughes were essentially traded for one another in the 2020 draft. Plus Lee and Trent Forrest are cousins.

Saben Lee was the 38th pick so we essentially got a REALLY late first in the deal.

The advanced stats actually like KO. It's just they signed him to a deal and didnt play him, which is a very Detroit Pistons thing to do. He also got injured. Not making me feel any better about the deal but it is worth noting.

I would've too but I also have serious doubts whether the Lakers even offered a FRP to the Jazz. They are acting like WB and his expiring contract is an actual asset. LOL. Maybe it will be by the trade deadline after the Lakers have paid most of his salary.. who knows.

In all honesty it might've been a tough sell to get a new owner like Smith to buy out WB for $47 mil even if the Lakers did pay an unprotected FRP. These guys don't get to be billionaires by throwing away that kind of cash.

Its kind of exactly how billionaires become billionaires in the tech world. throw a **** ton of cash and hope for an amazing unicorn exit... pay 47M and get an unprotected pick that could hit.

We made a bad deal... if there were Lakers picks to get we should have done it for sure... if not whatevs I guess.

This is all just.... weird.

The route to a Westbrook deal would now be Mike, JC, Gay and maybe seconds coming back. LA keeps their precious picks in place we open up some space. They use the picks and expiring salary next year to get Kyrie.

I don't know... just spitballin

Conley/Beasley/NAW works and it saves the Lakers 3.8M. We no longer have to worry about the tax so we can take some extra salary on. We end up getting a swap in 2026 and some seconds.

Vando instead of NAW works too and saves the Lakers 4.4M.

His advanced stats being good, make the deal worse. Our most valuable asset is still our own picks, since we have the most control over them.

Yeah it just leads me back to the idea that the Lakers were never going to offer a FRP to get off WB for the Jazz package.

One silver lining is that Laker team is going to be flat out awful again this coming season.

The Lakers seem completely unwilling to part with both first-round picks, but I have a really hard time believing they didn't offer at least one of them for a package of Bogey, Clarkson and Beasley.

I am trying to imagine a trade that was worse. We traded our best remaining asset who was a playoff team's dream come true AND was on an expiring deal for 2 players including 2024 money and nothing else. Perhaps we could have grabbed 3 worthless players for Bogey? 4? Terrible argument. But not worse than this trade.

The teams that messed this up the most are the teams that didn't land Bogey... They likely get a second chance at the deadline with Detroit make us look dumb though.

Detroit may think they have their young pillars now and don't need to be bottom feeders.

Cade
Ivey
Bey
Bogey
Duren/Bagley/Beef Stew/Nerlens

also have AB off the bench... maybe that is a fringe play in team?

I think they may be unwilling to part with any picks... I think their plan might be to bundle and trade 3 picks next year... IDK but I hope they are stuck with Russ.

We’ve got it all wrong. This is actually an all in move. Over this summer the Jazz have realized that Lauri, Collin and Simone are actually already the next Dirk, Mitchell and Boggie… we just had a hole at the C position.

It’s trophy time baby!

I think that is a fringe play in team. I'm super high on that Cade/Ivey backcourt though. They fit together really well.
