Guys there is a 0% chance Sexton is coming off of the bench.
Right. The fact that Cleveland seemed content trying to stay under the tax on Sexton projecting him to be at most a 6th man income or less for "them", suggests he was ensured he would get a better shot to start for the Jazz and it made the s/t easier for him to agree to do. He was pretty torn about leaving what he started, but in the end this was his best chance to play and get paid. He doesn't sign the deal and he is still in Cleveland probably since noone else seemed to have anyone the Cavs wanted.

People don’t talk about how brutal that playoff series was for him. Everyone wants to blame Rudy/Don, but Conley and O’Neale we’re both playing 30 MPG and horrendous on both ends.

I’m not even sure if it’s worth it try to play Conley to rehab his value. At his age, it should be expected that he fall of a cliff. He can’t play worse in than he did in the playoffs, but if we play him it likely becomes very clear he’s not a starter anymore.

The Jazz need to find a Bogdanovic type that is trade for him. He has no purpose here.
People do talk about it plenty. I don't think we will get the Mike from that playoff series when we showcase Mike this year. If we do then great... he will aid the tank and we can waive him next year or trade him as an expiring salary. If he plays well he will show that he didn't forget how to play basketball and still has something in the tank. There are no trades out there that return something more useful for him... his role is as the vet mentor.

Anything we get from Mike in trade or long term value is bonus... if he falls off a cliff then he just doesn't play as much... not a big deal.

We talk about it here, but 99% of the conversation as to why the Jazz failed centers around Mitchell-Gobert and not around the fact that the Jazz had so many minutes with horrific two way players.

I don't believe the Jazz are trying to win, but I do believe that Conley is going to play. We're not going to get value for him even if he plays non horribly. He is going to take up a roster spot and take lots of playing time. The decision to bench him will almost certainly come to late because, after all, he's Mike ****ing Conley. At this point, I am completely ruling out the idea of trading him for value. I would not keep him in the hopes of getting anything for him, it's a lost cause. I also consider his presence on the team as a negative due to the minutes he will take. He's not much different than Gay, but instead of being toxic and not playing minutes he's still being a professional but also playing minutes. If we do end up benching him, which would be most beneficial for the franchise, he'll probably have the same attitude as Gay....and why wouldn't he?

I would be very open to a Bertans+Powell for Conley+Gay type trade. I don't value these two as vet mentors. Much rather have them gone.

this is a super weird take. Mike and Rudy aren't the same and yes the being toxic vs. being professional is a huge difference.

So we trade Mike/Rudy because he's gonna take minutes away from players to get two other players that will do the same thing. Davis has an extra year that is mostly guaranteed... no thanks. We'd be better off just waiving both of them.

A bunch of guys during media day talked about how Mike was helping them. If he's playing like dog **** he will get benched and understand why. If he plays like he did for 70 games last season or close to it... then he will have some value if there are pg injuries. He will play like 25-28 minutes a night and will be aggressively load managed this year. First 20 games last year he came out looking pretty awesome. He does that this year teams will be tempted to take a chance.

Mike and Gay are the same because they can't help this team. Vet leadership yadda yadda yadda, I'd rather have minutes for the young guys to play. If Mike isn't playing, I don't think he will happy. If Gay was playing, I think he would be just fine. I don't think it's a difference in character or even professionalism, it's a difference in the roles they have. I don't think that's a weird take at all. Chances are, Mike is going to be better than Butler/Lee/whoever. If he doesn't get to play because we're trying to lose on purpose, he has the right to be upset. Even if he plays like dog ****, he's still going to be unhappy being benched.

Mike Conley, the nicest guy in the NBA, who's never received a technical foul, is going to be a locker room cancer?

Logically thinking though, 30 of 30 teams wouldn't start Agbaji in this current situation.
Depends on what he shows in training camp, but yeah... Ideally I would like the road to him starting to be cleared via executive decisions - i.e. the vets that are likely to be better than him being traded... but if it doesn't happen, not many teams would start him over Mike Conley.

As cringy as Locke is at times... his overdipped Oreo Cookie analogy is applicable here. You want to give guys what they can handle. Lets see what Ochai has before gifting him 30 minutes and starter status. By all accounts he is a hard working dude... giving him a rotation spot and 15-20 minutes a night may be perfect and help him find his NBA role and start working on it.

Kessler too... a consistent 15-20 minutes where you know you won't get yanked in and out for dumb mistakes is just perfect for a developing guy.

Also, and this is very minute and overall doesnt matter probably, but I think Ochai is probably more of a 3 than a 2 defensively. I don't see a guy who has great lateral foot-speed, but he does have good vertical and horizontal length for his height. Hopefully he can develop into something like a + Royce O'Neale.

I would probably go with Sexton and either Beasley or Agbaja. I'm almost positive it's going to end up being Conley and Sexton.
This is my exact answer as well. I picked Sexton and Beasley (but almost chose Agbaja). It will be conley and sexton. (unless of course conley gets traded first)

The Jazz need to trade away Conley, Gay, and Clarkson -- we have Sexton, and two more promising young guards in THT and NAW; Butler and Juzang are behind them. We then have further talent at the three with Beasley, Simone, Bolmaro. Makes no sense keeping players who have value for other teams.

For the record, I quite like NAW -- I always have. I liked the trade of Ingles for him. I don't mind THT either, I didn't mind the trade for him even though maybe we could have gotten more for PatBev.

Top 15:

Sexton
Beasley
Tech 9
Markannen
Vanderbilt

NAW
THT
Ochai
Gay
Olynyk

Butler
Bolmaro
Johnson
Azubuike
Kessler

Two Way 1: Lee
Two Way 2: Juzang

If we don't trade JC or Conley, it'll mean we likely cut Johnson and Butler in my opinion-- which is fine. I just hope in that case that they're with us until the deadline, then we dump their asses. I want to see what we have with our top 4 guards; if not, then keep one and send off Beasley and/or Gay. But the logjam at guard makes no sense, they gotta free it up. Toronto is a logical trade-partner here.

PS: I don't gamble -- but I'd be taking the over on 23.5 if I did.

I'm staking my claim on Horton-Tucker Island. Currently the facilities are just rudimentary, but we are hoping to add basic services like plumbing and sewer in the coming week, and the water should be drinkable my mid-October.

Right now, however, you can just pitch your tent wherever. There are no CC&R's.

I'm going all-in however, so I will have no THT slander without putting up a vociferous defense. The hype starts today.

nice to meet you, neighborooni.

Im totally sure Mike will be great this year. Last year he wes really bad as second part of the season just because the team sucks and he was unhappy. He is far from beeing washed and he will prove it. He will be great ( which will hurt the tank) do the best option might be to trade him before the deadline.

Both THT and NAW are somewhat intriguing in that I believe both have untapped potential. At this point guys like Beasley and JC are going to be ahead of them in the rotation though.
