Lauri Markkanen Hype & Appreciation Thread

At this time seems Lauri should be untouchable
Unprotected picks from Miami will be in the 25-30 range
Jazz will not get anyone comparable to Lauri's talent with those picks
Miami looks rough right now... I would not assume any picks in the future are going to be that high. Jimmy ain't got that much tread left on the tires.

I am fine with anyone saying Lauri is untouchable. I am not sure I'd move him even for 3 frps but not because I assume those will be late firsts. NO about to get the 3rd lotto pick they got in the AD deal... likely ends with 4 total and they were betting against Lebron.

Just like how Minnesota’s pick was going to be in the 25-30 range this year?
Or how those picks NO got in the AD trade will also be late firsts... I'm not sure I'd trade Lauri... just wondering where others might see the line. 2 unprotected picks is an auto reject... 3 and you have my attention.

For the record I like Lauri a lot and would just prefer to keep him around. I think he's a good building block and can fit alongside the next building blocks. I just don't know what Danny and JZ feel about Lauri and if they got a big offer I wonder what they would say.

They'd say no unless it was just something insane, which no one would offer.

Lauri is in an awkward space where I just don't see how anyone could pay what we would have to ask after only half a season. The Jazz have a large volume of middling assets and he's one of our few with insanely high (and relatively likely?) upside. Only would want to move him for a pretty preposterous price.

Would NO give the Lakers their 2023 draft pick back for AD? Kind of crazy to think about.

Right now no... in 30 games or so prolly.

NO also gets the 2024 or 2025 Lakers pick... 23 is a swap but its unprotected. Already got Daniels and #3 or 4 the draft the year the trade happened plus BI, Lonzo, Hart... yeesh.

I think more than three.
Fair... and that's kinda why I posed the question. I could see a team giving a Dejounte Murray-esque offer if he continues to play this well. I could see DA/JZ still turning it down but I am not sure what their long-term view/assessment of the roster is.

If Lauri is still doing this after 40 games, scoring 20+ with good splits and being good in defense... And this team would still be top3 to top 5... Then I would think it is settled Ainge is not taking other offers than same that goes for perennial all stars. He is one of the most talented scorers in this team, a giant wing standing 7ft tall, who is not "me first - others then". If he keeps this up it sets a good culture. If u have a star that is unselfish enough, its like a golden nugget for a team that wants to contend. If he is as someone capable to score so much, read to do everything for the team success instead of buffing his numbers, it is harder for others now and in the future to be dumb selfish guys on the floor. If the star/stars are like him, it sets a base for a dynasty. Keyword Warriors.

I just dont see why you would ever trade a young 7' with skills who tries on defense. It's just an insane thought. How many draft picks do you need for a rebuild? Why are we going to blow up our rebuild when it's already like 60% done?

Getting a star is great, but getting all the other pieces is just as hard. Would make no sense to go backwards when we are already asset rich.

On one of the Lakers' post-game broadcasts, Robert Horry was comparing Lauri to Kevin Love in Minnesota. He can be a piece of the puzzle as that 2nd or 3rd guy.

Unless it's like Houston offering us to give us all the Brooklyn assets, but even then, it just feels like nah.

I dont really have interest in being extreme pick hoarders if it means being awful for 3-4 years. Especially when our current path is both high potential and high in never losing.
Right- this season is awesome. I get to both enjoy watching AND thinking about the future of the Jazz. What more can you want?

Don't kill me here... but with all the talk of Danny being optimistic... and Lauri going bonkers and seemingly being a great fit on many teams trying to contend... what does Danny do if say Miami, Toronto, or Phoenix come in and offer 3 unprotected picks for Lauri? Miami was the team I could see actually doing it...

Danny has been zigging and zagging and surprising everyone... what if he really sells high on a bunch of these guys?

For the record... i think Lauri is more real than fluke. Some of his finishing will settle down a bit but overall I think this is close to who he is/can be and not some weird fluke. So not sure you are selling high per se... just that you bought low.
If we keep winning then I kind of think his hands are tied. IF he wants to trade guys from this team I think he has to hope for a losing streak. Fans would revolt if he traded any of our good players while we are literally the number 1 seed in the west.

Good post.
Things are pretty much perfect in jazz land right now. Why screw that up?

Lauri still has more upside.

Also we really don't need a bunch more draft picks. We could maybe use better draft picks, but we don't have room for those guys and can't develop that many guys. You don't trade young good all star type players with upside and potential for picks. He's younger than Mitchell and has a couple years until he's in his prime. He also brings everything to the table he's a unicorn.

There is almost no chance a draft pick is as good as he is. Unless he becomes an issue and wants out you keep him. I don't see him being that.

I worry it isn’t high potential without a few top ten picks. Time will tell how much is real and where our pick and the other picks we have land.

I ain’t looking to trade him at all… just something I’ve been contemplating… wonder if someone tries to pick him up and what price would make us move… that’s all.
