RealGM reports Jazz interested in Trading for John Collins

Collins seems to always pick up quick fouls and sits a lot

The guy which was mentioned on here before that would be an upgrade at centre is Myles Turner , his length , rebounding and ability to hit the 3 would suit

If the lakers were talking about giving up there 2 draft picks and maybe Russ for him and Hield , I wonder what it would take to get them both ?

Vanderbilt, Gay and a first rounder for them both ?
With a gun to my head, I'd take Turner over Collins, but he's another malcontent who's complained about his touches.

I’d much rather look at a buy low guy with unrealized potential - like Markkanen - over Collins or Turner. Jazz have minutes to burn and a helluva rookie coach. Buy low. Sell high.

My guess is they keep Sexton, JC, THT, Beasley, Agbaji, Markkanen, Olynyk and Kessler, but move Conley and Vanderbilt (plus other salary if needed) before the deadline. Add another pick and a young player with upside and potential from somewhere - then roll with that group the rest of the season. If the right deal comes along, I could see them deal Olynyk and Beasley too. . . but I’m less bullish on that.

I like Collins but I am not draining the reserves to get him. There are A LOT of examples of players getting frustrated on their team and getting moved and getting back to their old selves. Jazz has a few of them now. My guess the reason that he has not been traded yet is that the Hawks want more than teams are willing to give up. The problem is that he is not playing well enough to justify his contract so he is almost to the point of just being a salary dump and you do not get a lot of value out of that.

Let's take a look at their team and see what they really need. the emergence of AJ Griffin has made Collins more expendable. They could still use a backup 4 to help off the bench. Backup PG is also a need. Aaron Holiday is OK but not great. Bogdon Bogdanovic is injured and he is their 6th man but looks to be getting closer to a return. Just Holiday is a decent bench piece that is playing awfully this year. Okongwu is a solid bench piece that has been getting better.

So they will need a forward on the trade and I am not offering Vando but he would be a little redundant to Okongwu and Hunter. Rudy Gay would be a nice bench piece for them but if I was them I am not sure I would want him but he does have a much smaller contract.

I think Olynyk would have to be included in the trade so that they can keep a big and he would be a decent pit on their team.

I would guess it would look something like this

Olynyk
Gay
NAW
1st round pick with say lottery protections

for Collins another player (I would want Jalen Johnson)

This would save them a ton of money next year. Still give them enough fire power to still compete this year.

I read one of those made up trade proposals somewhere in the past few days (Bleacher Report?) that suggested Clarkson+Olynyk+SRP for Collins although I'm assuming they could probably switch out Beasley for Clarkson. I might be in the minority but would prefer to keep Beas over Clarkson. Basically swapping out one JC for another one. The jist of the article was that ATL is looking to avoid the Lux tax penalty in future years while still trying to remain competitive. They would need more shooting and obviously another big to replace Collins.

Jazz have had some pretty good recent success with reclamation projects but none of them have had $100mil price tags like Collins.

I have a love/hate relationship with Clarkson but do wonder how him being signed to Klutch would effect any potential extension at this point. I believe Vando is signed with them too.
There's no way in hell I'm giving Clarkson close to $25mil per season or anything crazy like that. Maybe JC signs another bargain extension with the Jazz..who knows but he's technically a starter now and Klutch will probably want so called "starter money" in any contract extension.

Anyway my bet is alot of that kind of talk goes on behind the scenes.

Jazz will probably try to extend JC, but will likely seriously consider solid trade offers if they can’t get something worked out. It’s the nature of the business. I’d prefer to package him as part of a bigger deal - but who knows what kind of offers and options will be on the table later. Going to be a lot of sellers at the deadline. . .

I don't think ATL is in a position to be asking for picks in return for Collins, one of the reasons why I think this is an opportunity to get him on the cheap. They should be happy with some long term salary relief and a player or two that could help them right now.

Ironically, if we did not trade Bogey I think Bogey+Gay for Collins should be a done deal. The Hawks don't have much use for Olynyk, however, making the trade more complicated.

Am I the only one here that wouldn't want to give up both Beasley and Clarkston to get Collins unless there was something else to that deal like dropping Gay or getting an extra pick?

Gay+Vando+NAW and future 2nd for Collins.

I'd push for Sexton instead of Clarkson or Beasley
