Donovan Mitchell - CRT and Off Court Racial Issues were Draining

Q: What hurts the most?
A: ...And then to be able to not see many of us in the crowd, I tried my best to make sure I invite young Black and brown kids to games, to be around the community. But just to not see us there, it was definitely tough. And being in Cleveland now, you see us courtside. It’s just refreshing. It’s a blessing to be back around people that look like me. -Donovan Mitchell
It seems to me that Utah and Salt Lake City could never have appealed to Donovan. He wants the people that look like him to be around him. Apparently 20,000 adoring fans (White, Black, Hispanic or otherwise) in the arena, and celebrity status in a place where he is nearly universally loved isn't enough. The fact of the matter is that life is full of difficult moments, and he didn't want to do that unless he had a larger black poplulation. Actually kinda sounds racist if you ask me.

Because it is, even though no one wants to say it. Donovan blatantly said he chose kids based off race to invite to games. That’s fine, it is racism, and he is a racist. See the thing about racism is, it won’t ever go away, so long as anyone treats others differently….because of race. If one of your primary concerns is the race of the people cheering for you…you’re probably a racist. None of us were quite the right color to be cheering for Donovan….in his own words. I know I know, some of you will indirectly say “this racism is okay”…..no….no it’s not.

Is Donovan talking about white people of Utah or mormons of Utah though? Maybe both?

I get drained from the lack of diversity in UTA, and I work from home and barely leave the house. Doing this on larger scale must be incredibly frustrating. Probably the most frustrating thing about it is that when someone like Donovan says there’s a problem and shared his experience, it’s just dismissed. A mix between “get over it” and “it happens other places too”.

This always happens when there’s talks a player wanting to play in Utah or lack thereof. People just can’t fathom that Utah is not the best place to be for a young black man. It doesn’t matter if you’re and NBA player or just a normal office job worker. If you’re POC you will have extra difficulties in UTA.

When it comes to these issues don’t be a Quin Snyder. If a real problem is presented, the answer is to listen and address it. You can’t just say “how dare you” and keep running into a wall.

The majority group in this country cannot treat another group as "other" for 400 years, then claim reverse racism when they stick together. Honestly, white people that think they know better than minorities what racism is frustrate me to no end. Listen and learn.

Yeah, sorry JazzGal, racism is racism. There’s no good brand of it. And he’s absolutely racist. Like I said, some of you would run in to sugar coat, but it’s what it is….racism from a racist. I’ll say it’s racism when you know….it blatantly is.

White people shouldn’t have been cheering for him, buying his jersey, buying his shoes, or showing up to games. Too many white faces in that crowd for him. He’s a racist POS.

The man traveled around the country more than half the time and in the NBA setting you’re around plenty of diversity all the time. He didn’t like all the white faces in the crowd that were SUPPORTING him. He can go f*** himself.

People can do whatever they want. They don’t have to take what’s served and have it spoon fed to them by a disingenuous, hypocritical, racist POS. Yeah I’m going all in.

61% of the population in Utah is Mormon. The Mormon religion didn’t allow black men to hold the priesthood until 1978. In the United States approximately 1% of Mormons are black.

I literally was told a story of a return missionary bearing testimony after returning from Africa and they said it was so great to see everyone’s white faces because the spirit was so much stronger in their lighter countenances.
Yep, racism is bad all the time.

Did Oneye ever admit what it was that made him so angry with Donovan. It was a complete 180. One day he loved him and the next he was throwing up at the mouth with hatred for the guy. I don’t hate my worst enemies the way you hate Donovan. Always wondered what triggered it.

Starts with R and ends with T.

Pull up your pants oneye, this is embarrassing
Or just the truth and what he said.

What’s there to like? His phoniness really showed through.

Yes Cy you are.

Yes Cy you are.
There are millions of phony people. Especially in Utah. Why are you singling out DM with visceral hate?

You know, I actually still have a couple pairs of DON’s and a few jerseys of his. If anyone wants them, they’re now in my trash. I am not into having clothing representative of a racist around. Would really encourage Don not to attend All Star weekend in Utah either. Would hate for him to be in a city with so many white people. He probably should simply mark the cities with the least white people, in order for him to be able to comfortably play on the road too.

My ONLY beef with this is that things seemed to be painted as ALL instead of some.

Yes there are idiots every where. There are great people also that aren't bigots that do great things.

News is generally about the negative. That is what sells. I just hate that Utahns are bigots. That is what it comes out as.

I will NOT excuse what some of the people in utah have said and done it is deplorable but for the love of all that is good DO NOT tag every one as the same.
