Trade Rumors Involving the Jazz

I don't see any way the Hawks would do this. They gave up 3 first round picks to get Murray and now they're just going to give up on him after half a season? I'm guessing this guy's just another Monty.
This.

This would make no sense for ATL. On first impression, no financials considered, I’d do this if I’m the Jazz without hesitation.

Lauri, Murray, Collins, Kessler is a very good young/talented core.

Let’s not be negative. I’ll assume this deal is finalized and hope we route Collins to a third team.

I don't even care he broke the rules and cheated, as it pertains to much except it says alot about him as a person, but the fact that he has not been the same player at all since he was doing so I do care about the most.
You can try to spin this I guess, but if the league cannot allow players take advantage of these helpful enhancers, then you cannot suggest that makes him justified either when they don't.
Imo he clearly needed them to play at a high level since he hasn't since, and imo the reason he aint getting the touches is because he doesn't deserve them anymore.
Yeah he not athletic anymore..

I actually think the Collins deal is going down. At the very least, Vando and Beasley are gone. I could see a deal where someone else comes off the fence and gives us a better piece or maybe takes some of our baggage and we go with that deal instead.

The news smells too much like the Sexton rumors, which turned out to be accurate.

Giving up on Sexton this early would be a major mistake IMO. He looks like the perfect bench sparkplug every team needs.

Also not a fan of either Murray or Collins. Murray is a bad shooter who nevertheless takes a ton of shots and doesn't get to the line at all. Not sure what the fascination is with this guy. He's also having a terribly inefficient season, so we'd be overpaying for him. The Spurs never believed in Murray - they let him produce gaudy counting stats on a tanking team by letting him do what he wanted, and then traded him away for a haul of picks.

Plus, Murray would probably be coming in with the expectation of getting his "own team" or something.

The Murray/Collins deal seems unlikely.
I dunno. The Hawks are not going anywhere with that group and they know it. The fit is terrible and changes have to be made.

Murray is definitely not a "great player", though. It's a total mystery why people hold him in such high regard. He was the top dog for a season on a bad Spurs team and was allowed to put up inflated stats so he could be used as a trade piece later. And this suddenly made him a great player?

When he's had to share the floor (and ball) with Trae, he's been bad.

Okay, maybe great is too strong, but he’s a good player for sure, though a terrible terrible fit with Trae (on offense).

My interest in Collins has cooled. I feel like he does a number of things well but nothing that is above average and Im less sure that there is room for growth in his game. Im sure his production will improve once he gets more touches once traded but I don't think he is capable of Markanen type of improvement where you are left questioning where has this come from.

What are peoples thoughts on Anfernee Simons? Portland are in a really weird spot right now, there too good to be able to tank and get a good pick but they don't have enough depth or high end talent to compete with the best teams. Simons and Dame have overlapping skillsets and I personally believe they would be better off with a combination of guys like Clarkson/KO/Vando/Beasley who can provide a spark off the bench and also complement Dame more than Simons does. While for the Jazz I feel long term we can draft or trade for the athletic pieces you need in order to make up for Simons deficiencies.

The Blazers are not building anything around Dame anymore. They're not coming out and saying it since he's the face of the franchise and has been "loyal", but they're obviously getting ready for a life without him.

I agree. This is the 4th time Collins is connected to us in different packages. DA likely believes Collins trade value will increase after trade, so even if it turns out he isnt a fit he will likely gain value after being traded.

As you said... regardless of the package and destination.. we know some guys who are gonna be traded out (Beasley and Vando most certainly)

I dont believe for a second in that DJM/Collins package. No way. Would love it, but its a pipe dream.

For Anfernee... I like him but he doesnt strike me as a quality #1 scoring guard for some reason I cant put my finger on. And if we are to build around Lauri and Kessler.. we definitely need one guard who is a top notch playmaker.. which Simons isnt.

He is and should be considered a wing. Its his natural position and playstyle. He is not nearly as good when playing traditional PF.
He's been great at PF this year when he plays there. He has been great in all three positions this year which is one of the great things about him. I think you are comparing to other years in the past. He's obviously improved since then.

Murray and Collins's would be an awesome trade. That's exactly what this team needs. That's a really solid core of 3 players with Lauri. Plus it still leaves us with a ton of picks to try to land a big player in the draft or trade.

JC, Beasley, and Sexton all have the same issues of tunnel vision. The first two are terribly on defense as well. That part is a real shame though. Beasley started the season as a solid defender once we started losing he gave up on that end. Or maybe it's when he started shooting worse. We really only need one of those guys on the team at most.

I would give up another lightly protected 1st to make it happen.

Murray, Beasley, Lauri, Collins, and Kessler is a solid starting unit. We could still trade for another starter as well. Or imagine we get Victor. I'm not completely sold in Kessler being a starter unless he can shoot or help on offense more. His defensive weaknesses I think will improve though to go with his awesome rim protection.

Sexton, JC, and Vando are all solid players in their role. All of them should really be coming off the bench in an ideal role for them. That could change for Sexton and Vando in the future I guess. But getting 1 all star and 1 solid starter for that is a no brainer.
