Collin Sexton SZN

Think Utah might pursue Van Vleet. He's one of the only attainable PGs in the market who is starter level.

His basic stats are mediocre, but he has Conley esque impact ratings.
You could be right. I'm not a big fan of any of the free agent guards though. Personally I hope that we target a guard(s) in the draft. I've said this before, but I would try to get both Cason Wallace and Anthony Black. I think one of those will hit for sure, and could potentially play together as well.

I'm having a hard time figuring out why so many Raptors fans seemingly hate him. Personally I dont see the wrinkles they see, and his numbers look solid accross the board even if he has a bit of a down year from 3P this year.

Suns are talking him as the potential replacement for CP3 though... so there might be a steep price for his services.

I agree with potential impact and his timeline isnt bad for us really at all, but I just dont want more small AF guards personally.
His next deal will be rough... his play and defense have already fallen off a bit. Don't do it.

I'd rather draft a pg and then go get a game manager type to smooth out the transition. Wiz may offload one of Wright or Morris... maybe you can snag Tyus Jones or Tre Jones... find a one year stopgap in Gabe Vincent, Cory Joseph, Dennis Smith Jr., Jevon Carter are some candidates in FA.

Gotta pin it on someone, when the expected win total was 48 and battling for homefield advantage in the playoffs. The hope of fans probably even an improvement on that. Happens a lot with underperforming teams.

I love Jevon Carter. Still a plus defender.

Its because they want the rock in Scotty B's hands . His ability to run the offense as a point forward could be fringe Joker from the post- if the guards he has out there, are both elite shooters instead of undersized floor generals.
Or maybe they just don't want FVV getting paid, what someone else will probably give him?
Barnes imo is what Ben Simmons was supposed to be coming out of college, and with Barnes obvious upside as a shooter he is already better than Ben.

I would be shocked if we went after FVV. He doesn't fit the timeline of our young core and will end up getting overpaid this summer.
we aren't lol makes no sense at all never did.
Sexton is already proving himself to be the starting pg longterm even if we need to get another playmaker on the wing or the post to justify it.

It doesn't feel like Sexton does much to make those around him better. I think that's the next step, which he might not have in him, which might be effecting how the front office sees him.

Really none of our players really do this, besides probably KO. This is why a priority for the off season should be finding a high level distributor/perimeter defender. Potentially Sexton would fit really nicely next to that type of player, but potentially the idea is to pair up JC next to that type of player.
Agreed. Mike always made others better and I think that is what great PG's do. Obviously elite players in general do so but it is key at the PG position if you want to compete.

Yet we keep winning ;)
Maybe its not as important as some people think it is.

Ja Morant and Trae Young are great facilitators and make others better so it does exist. But it is not as important is it used to be unless you have a team full of bums who cannot create for themselves at all I'd rather have Luka or Steph who are score first facilitators.

Yeah, that would be the idea. Sign a FVV to a 3 or 4 year deal, draft a Black/Wallace and hope they take the reigns eventually.

Please no. Too short
Not a fan of small guards either, but hes the best available by a country mile (that we have a chance at signing) as far as PGs go.

Just putting two and two together given the reporting that seems to be leaning towards the Jazz want to get a starting PG and how they cleared cap space at the deadline.

As far as I know Raptors fans love FVV.

Suns can't afford FVV so we aren't competing with the Suns for any free agents that cost more than a nickel.

If you want FVV realize he likely signs for 4/120M… rumor has it he had turned down the Raps extension at like 4/114.

I don’t think he’s worth Brunson money at this point. Would be a really rough use of our cap imo.

They use CP in a sign and trade but wouldn’t really have much to offer in the way of a sweetener. So unless CP has value on his own it would be tough.

Orlando is the team rumored to be hanging out there for FVV. We’d have to outbid them by 5% to make the money work… I don’t see it happening but who knows.

I lean towards agreeing with you. Wouldn't be upset at it though. I think generally we want to use the space to sign talent where we can and figure it out later. The back end of his deal would be soft with the rising cap. I'm kind of cap illiterate though, so I really don't know who the Jazz would be competing with to sign him, obviously the Raptors, but I don't know who else has money out there and needs a PG.

FVV at least fits a need more than Kuzma (just to compare another gettable high priced UFA) does. He's also an advanced stats darling on an underachieving team which might suggest he can do a lot better on a better team construct.
