Lauri Markkanen Hype & Appreciation Thread

It just seems crazy to me that some question whether or not he can even be a number 2 option on a championship level team. This season he's averaging 25.5 points a game while shooting 50% from the field, 40% from 3 and 65TS%. He's the focal point of every teams scouting report, and he's still putting up huge numbers on crazy good efficiency. Imagine if he had another star to play with and take some of the defensive pressure off of him.
Agreed! I think someone like Lillard paired with Markkanen would be a lethal offensive combination.

I was just listening to Tim MacMahon and Spence Checketts discuss whether or not he's a number 2 option on championship team, they didn't even discuss the possibility that he could develop into a number 1 on a championship team and didn't even seem totally convinced that he's a number 2. I also see fans on twitter frequently discussing whether he's a 2nd or 3rd option on a contending team.

I guess I'm missing something. To me he's a surefire 2nd option on a championship level team, and I'm still not completely convinced that he can't be a number 1 if he continues to develop and the Jazz put the right pieces around him.
Also don’t forget the Utah discount applied by the National media…

I know it’s not completely fair to compare, but I was curious. By the quarter stats for Donovan and Lauri. 4th quarter stats show something I think we all know.
Player 1, not clutch at all.
Player 2, clutch.

Also while volume in the 2nd half is lower, I think part of that was that especially early this season Clarkson was hogging the ball a lot in the 4th and Lauri didn't get shots there. Now he has shot way more in the 4th and taken control of that quarter much better.

On/Off leaders (min 1500 minutes). Lauri at #8 and if you exclude Denver trio (KCP, Gordon, Porter) who obviously benefit from Jokic a lot here then he is #5.

For trade comparison sake, Donovan +0.6 so middle of the pack in the whole league (+1 expected wins)

Or: both players' efficiency is lowest in the 4th (though player 1 is significantly worse) and player 2 is atrocious in OT, whereas player 1 is great in OT.

Well OT numbers on player 2 come from such small sample that the mathematical margin of error is probably 30% or something and it means the sample size is insufficient.

Ya its dumb to even post the OT numbers in my opinion due to how rare overtime is. there is a 4th quarter in 100% of games (and its 12 minutes long) and only an overtime in like 3% of games or something and its only 5 minutes long. OT stats are kind of worthless.

Unless they prove your point. #cherrypickingftw

What a bone-headed move by Arcidiacono.
I get that Arcidiacono tried block Lauri's dunk etc but still show some respect on your opponent who's also your former teammate.
Usually i don't allow violence but in this case someone should've punched Arcidiacono what an ****ing idiot.

If NBA cannot protect allstar players then teams needs to do it.
Yeah yeah yeah NBA is not NHL but still players safety should be priorty in games like this.

I feel his ceiling might be 30+/10/5 kind of statlines... Considering he can become a better ball handler and have better team around him that will allow him both more space and get him more assists from moving the ball to the shooters from downtown. I read he will have ball handling as one of his focus this off-season - that will be needed for both cutting down turnovers and shoot off the dribble more. He might become that top 5-10 monster the champions need
