What's new

Game Thread Mar 20, 2023 07:00PM MT: Jazz vs. Kings

I had to take a breather without a shirt in a cold Finnish night... WHAT A GOD DAMN GAME!

We have a future dpoy and a future all-nba as our front-court. And lots of other good pieces. So could care less about that few percents chance for high 1st bc that's the highest we could get with this team. I rather make it to the real games than be the first one out! And if we need just use like all the picks for another top 15 guy of the league to come join with Kid and Ochai and Lauri. We figure it out!

In not super pressed a out missing out on a top pick because I don't think the draft will actually be that important for this team anymore. Don't think we have to get another star via draft. We can do it through a trade and hopefully make a nice signing this off-season

Obviously I know we have to land some hits, just saying it doesn't have to be a huge hit

This is so ****ing stupid.

I also can only point my finger to not trading at the beginning of the season at this point. Short of the coach tanking I am at a loss.
Winning the lottery isn’t a given. Fk that let’s get this play in and win a damm series. Use those 3 1st rd picks and wheel and deal. If we don’t get in the play maybe the basketball gods will reward these men for doing it the right way. Fk we talking about . Let’s go

Yeah! Let's undo all of the work done in the last year by emptying the cupboard for overrated veterans!

The blueprint for a team like the Jazz (and the vast majority of champions that aren't the Lakers) building a dynasty is done from the ground up.

Definitely use at least two of the picks to draft so you have a group of core young guys to develop.

Teams that won a title over the last several years with significant help from their own top 5 pick:

'22 Warriors: Nope
'21 Bucks: Nope
'20 Lakers: No
'19 Raptors: Nah
'18 Warriors: No
'17 Warriors: No
'16 Cavs: Yes
'15 Warriors: No

I'll be damned

It’s true. They hate lose even if it meant to never win ultimate prize!!

You’ve said some dumb ****… this is some of the dumbest…
Sure. Saying there's a legit chance to find a better player in the late lottery/late first compared to guys taken in the top ten is dumb. Like this type of things doesn't happen every ****ing year. Sure man. Sure. Whatever hell you wanna say.

Cleveland would have been terrible too if LeBron didn’t go back there.

Gotta remember Ochai and Kessler are rookies we got in trades. Lauri and Collin young veterans entering their primes. Dunn is a dirt cheap off the bench fundamentals veteran off the bench. When we add whatever good rookies and trade for a star this team could win more than one series. been tooting this since Dec. we are having a generational coach so getting the high 1st would mean we would have to kill some momentum and important development lessons from these kids. If all those trades did not work to make us suck... Better just buckle up and take whatever comes. If its in the lottery then ok. if it is for the post-season series then nice.

Your words were it is very likely we find someone at 15 that is better than the player at 4… which does not happen every year and is some of the dumbest nonsense ever… and ignores all history and logic…but other than that you nailed.

Teams that won a title over the last several years with significant help from their own top 5 pick:

'22 Warriors: Nope Convenient you cut it off at 5th pick and ignore that they built from the ground up and tanked their asses off.
'21 Bucks: Nope
'20 Lakers: No Lakers don't count
'19 Raptors: Lucky single year/not a dynasty
'18 Warriors: No Convenient you cut it off at 5th pick and ignore that they built from the ground up and tanked their asses off.
'17 Warriors: No Convenient you cut it off at 5th pick and ignore that they built from the ground up and tanked their asses off.

Spurs: Tanked their asses off and could keep churning the roster because they had their core built around.

God this whole debate is so ****ing tired but it's always better to have better picks. If the Warriors don't have the 6th pick, guess who they probably don't draft? Or if the Bucks scrapped their way into the playoffs in '13?

It's not all about the top of the draft, but yeah, you bet your *** if you land a Tim Duncan or LeBron then the organization has to be absolute dreck to not make it happen (and the Cavs still were, Lebron just cracked the code... wait for it... by letting the Cavs accumulate talent and assets to assemble a super team in Cleveland).

TLDR; The vast majority of NBA champions and maybe every dynasty ever - besides Laker teams - did it with lottery picks in the draft.
