What's new

2023 NBA Draft Megathread

Essentially the same as the last one for Utah I believe. At least I know he mocked us JHS and Miller last time, George might be new.

The top 8 or 9 make sense. He loses me when he puts Clowney at #14.

Keyonte is a 6th man at this point for me, which is fine at 8-12 range.
I would bet on him becoming a decent Fultz level playmaker but always a score first type you maybe don't want running your offense especially when you already have one like that in Sexton.
I liked Keyonte more early on, not so much now. Leaning towards DA going high ceiling front court and role player 2 way back court later

I think Keyonte is a combo who can play on the ball. If you're drafting him that high it's because you think he can play on the ball with significant usage like a Markelle Fultz. One of Keyonte's issues is that he plays very fast, and he also tends to get sped up. He's rushing on some of his shot attempts and it's causing him to be off balance. His release is nice, but he's often drifting which is throwing his accuracy off. This also affects some of his turnovers. However, I think this can be fixed with coaching. Just in terms of physical talent, he's a higher level prospect than Hood-Schifino, imo. He's got good size if he's effectively your 1.

If the Jazz are drafting at 10, and the top 8 have gone about as expected, then the Jazz are probably deciding between George, Wallace and Black.

With guys like Nick Smith, Keyonte, Anthony Black, Jett, etc. underwhelming a bit, it becomes increasingly likely that Hendricks and Dick do get into the top 10.

For a rebuilding team like the Jazz, to miss out on Wemby, Scoot, Amen, Ausar, Miller, Cam, Jarace and even Hendricks has to be pretty disappointing.

depending on bpa feeling in our offices, I don't think there is much chance we are drafting a guard in the lottery unless we have both picks in there.

So if Hawkins or maybe Keyonte is there at 11, they could be our first pick imo, but not unless Hendricks, Auser etc. aka the lower floor but higher upside forwards are also gone already.
I could maybe see us trade up if anyone will trade back, just ot get our choice of who is on the board after the highest tier is taken.

The way things appear to be shaking out, assume that Wemby, Scoot, Miller, both Thompsons, Walker, Whitmore and Hendricks are all off the board when the Jazz pick (e.g., 9 or 10). I think there may be a drop-off after the first 7 or 8 picks. Jazz could very well be choosing between Wallace, Black and George for their first pick. Maybe Gradey Dick is available and he's in that mix.

You’re pretty high on Hendricks too, eh?

Don’t love that Draft the way the board fell. Wallace over George and then a wing with the TWolves pick is a better result IMO. I don’t think Leonard Miller will fall that far. Think they’ll have to take him with their second pick if they want him. Same as Sidy.

I'm okay with him. I think he's likely a complementary player rather than a primary. He should be a somewhat reliable shooter, and he's a defensive presence. It's just that a number of freshmen this year have been underwhelming--guys like Nick Smith, George, Black, Wallace, Howard, etc. So it's starting to look increasingly likely Hendricks is going to find his way into the top 10 and fill the void.

When people talk about Gradey Dick going top 8 or 9, I think it's partly because he's a nice player, but partly it's because the other guys in that range haven't been totally convincing, imo. It looks like the draft starts to level out after the top 8 or 9 guys. If someone like Kris Murray or Sidy Cissoko made it into the end of the lottery, it wouldn't surprise me at this point.

You look at the impact that Bobby Portis has had for the Bucks. Hendricks may be able to do that for a team like the Jazz.

Outside of the top three which prospects who would you trade our pick and the Wolves pick in order to secure?
Depends on where the Jazz and Wolves picks ultimately land because both can still vary wildly.

I have a tough time thinking of anyone I'd consolidate those picks for since I think there's a fairly flat tier in the ~7-18 range and it looks like we'll have two picks there. 3rd tier (picks 3-7) also have a ton of question marks but huge upside so IDK. I guess:

-Cam Whitmore (no obvious weaknesses, obvious upside, questionable production)
-... Amen Thompson? (I hate his shooting prospects, but if he could shoot then he's in Scoot's tier. Maybe if you can get abundant enough spacing elsewhere it's okay but then you're forever married to finding floor-spacers.)
-... Cason Wallace? (I'm high, but this is a stretch in part because I think they could just get him with one of the picks in question)

I really don't know what I'm talking about, but it seems like the Jazz could end up with two pretty good prospects in the later lottery and two bites at the apple has real value.

Like, if a lot of the mocks hold and the Jazz could be in position to get both Wallace and Dick then I take that over trading into 4-7 without blinking. What tanking can accomplish is getting better assurance of that positioning (in addition to stronger odds at hitting bigger than the Jazz ever have).

Assuming victor wembanyama and brandon miller are off the board i want these 2 guy
1. Taylor Hendricks
2. Leonard Miller.

Would be vwry excited to see sidy still on board with last pick, bit my dreams have limits.

I like both of them, but hope we get both a guard and a forward to help balance the roster.

IT will be interesting for these guys when measurements come out. George looks a bit bigger than he is listed to my eyes. Going to say he is 6'4.5 in shoes w/ a 6'9 wingspan. Obviously not great size, but not terribly undersized either. He's got a nice frame though to put on strength.
Most of these guys don't go to the combine anymore to get measured. It needs to be mandatory.
