Also, in just a bit of time THT seems to have gotten more love from Jazz media (Larsen/Locke/Tony) as a future PG than Sexton has. That's kind of interesting to me. Maybe I'm reading that completely wrong tho.

Like most have said I could see him as JC's replacement. They have similarities in that they both were drafted by the LAL and were inefficient "chuckers", with Clarkson that is a bit what the Jazz needed off the bench but he has slowly improved a little during his time with the Jazz.

So my hope with THT would be, since he is younger than Clarkson when coming over to the Jazz he could improve some of those deficiencies even more. Also that someone brought up, he definitely has a unique body type and which is a good thing and one that makes me want to see if the Jazz can keep developing his game, it also should make him durable and we all know availability is a useful ability for a player.

One other similarity, in my mind between the two is their passing. By that I mean this season some of my favorite plays from both of them has been when they surprise me with their passing ability. So they both have showed they have a good passing ability when they chose to be use it and are locked in and both leave me wishing we could see it more often and that they'd both realize it would unlock the defense for them a bit as they could get easier shots.

Lastly, THT seems to like it here, he's a quiet guy (reminds me a bit of a young Favors that way) doesn't need and actually may prefer not being in a big city with all the media attention, so that is a small factor for the Jazz to want to try and keep him.

I think THT might be replacing Sexton, not Clarkson.

Obviously Utah has some kind of goal of keeping Clarkson. If they didnt, he would have been traded.

THT/Clarkson are a +8.3 together on the season. That's the highest 2 man combo for THT of the top 10 2 man combinations regarding minutes played.

Clarkson still has a unique skill-set Utah doesnt have and can't really get in free agency. He's a high volume 3pt shooter who can create for himself, and has developed playmaking for others to a better degree.

Sexton's skillset isnt nearly as unique. Dunn gives Utah some of the good stuff Sexton gives (both are very good at that paint push shot, both feel near automatic at it) while being a better defender/facilitator. Sexton also seems to be a bit injury prone and is obviously undersized. Obviously Dunn (or anyone on the Jazz's roster) isnt as good a pure scorer as Sexton, but the Jazz are probably confident they can score enough even without a guy like Sexton.

The prospect of entering a season with THT as your starting PG is pretty terrifying though. But man, if this dude takes this off-season serious and really nails down improvements both mechanically and mentally, he could be dangerous. Locke talked about how he's working with the Jazz staff tweaking his shot and it has been working. The media seems to love THT as he's one of the more vocal interviews. According to Locke he's the player that he talks with the most.

And if THT hits? Yeesh, starting the top of your lineup with a 7'1 wingspan PG is just bonkers.

Draft a guy like Cason Wallace to play next to THT (buys you some insurance if THT doesnt develop all the way and should theoretically be a fit next to THT as he can be on/off ball. Also think defensively they compliment each other as THT can take the more physical/big guard and Wallace can take the quicker guard) and you could have an elite defense w/ the excellence of Walker and the positional size of Lauri.

I really like his size, durability and age. He seems to be improving in most area's of the game and I'd like to see what another year with this coaching staff can produce. If it's a choice between him and J.C. I'd take THT every time.

Post ASB THT is shooting 34% from 3.
This is a great point - in fact:

Pre-trade deadline

46 Games - 1 start - 16.2 minutes per game
2.8/7.0 FG (40.6%)
0.7/2.6 3 pt. (26.1% - Ouch!)
1.3/1.8 FT (75.3%)
7.7 points per game
2.5 rebounds per game
2.9 assists per game
1.2 turnovers per game

Post-Trade Deadline

16 Games - 16 Starts - 28.2 minutes per game
6.2/14.1 FG (43.8%)
1.5/4.4 3 pt. (34.3%)
2.6/3.5 FT (73.2%)
16.4 points per game
5 rebounds per game
5.8 assists per game
3.9 turnovers per game

I would say that his value is trending up and he’s starting to fit into a specific role for the team. It’s clear that Will Hardy likes him a lot, and the coaching has helped him refine his game a ton. My guess is that he’s in the team’s long term plans.

Wow 53 people voted? How many alts does cy have, anyway? What, has he become one love all of a sudden?

I feel like with THT, Dunn and even Sexton currently on the roster, it allows the Jazz some flexibility in how they approach filling the PG spot.

If they want to throw an offer at Austin Reaves, they don’t have to worry about losing out if the Lakers match.

They also don’t have to reach for a PG in the draft, and could in fact not pick any guards and still be okay.

They don’t have to overpay in a trade or in free agency either.

Is it ideal? No, of course not. But I think they’d still hold things down well enough that they’d make the playoffs next year even if they don’t find a PG they want to invest in right now.

I'd be a little nervous about going much above his current number, but he could definitely continue to get better. Doesn't take a ton of shooting improvement to open up his drive game even more.

With what I’ve seen from him recently, the Pat Bev for THT trade rivals the Gobert trade in the sucker punch department! I honestly have to question how Sexton gets his starting job back.

How Connelly and Pelinka get to sleep at night is beyond me!

TBD. I think he opts in and the jazz want to continue to see how he progresses next season. He does seem to fit well on the team and teammates like playing with a guy that is willing passer. He's still pretty young, younger than Ochai, despite how he looks. I want to see how he continues to develop. There are intriguing parts of his game, you just want to see the positives outweigh the negatives consistently.
