2023 NBA Draft Megathread

Funny, I had the same in my 3 guys I don't like. There's a common thread between all 3 guys. I actually think GG has the best chance of these 3 to make it in the NBA as a skill perspective. I don't buy the shot making stuff at all but he was decent enough as a spot up shooter and at the rim. But his mental game is probably the worst.

I'm curious as to who everyone would put as their 3 guys they like, and 3 guys they don't like. For me:

Like:
Coulibaly
Clowney
Bailey (would be Bufkin but the consensus has caught up to him)

Dislike:
JHS
Nick Smith
GG
I think of all the dislike guys I would feel the best if we drafted NSJ. Their is a case that with his knee he never really got going and he was really highly rated in the preseason. He's not the type of player I like but that is the case I think. Don't want any of them with the 9th or 16th pick.

Like:
Tay Henny but most people like him...
Jordan Hawkins... have him right there with Grady at 11/12ish
Kobe Bufkin - I'd take him over JHS/Keyonte/ and a handful of guys that seem to be ahead of him.

Dislike - GG, NSJ, JHS

strawther's numbers might look good, he might look good in highlights, but i've just seen that dude too many times over the years - not sure i can even quite explain it - but he's not an nba player. just isn't. i won't begrudge anybody that likes him as a prospect - heaven knows i've had my share of misses. but not on this one. just not a rotation guy in the league.

ftr, if he ends up playing with lebron i reserve the right to go back and edit everything i just said.

You do not know that nor do you have any quantitative data to suggest it. It’s quite the opposite. If you believe that still, I doubt there is anything anyone can say to convince you otherwise. I disagree with the qualitative analysis also (speed doesn't matter if you can't get to the rim, he was a weak team defender, was not really a PG/was a turnover machine).

Neither of us know the counterfactual or will ever find the out, so let’s agree to disagree instead of have one of those insane longform debates that all but ~four posters hate.
Sir Numberica, your voice doth carry the resonance of empiricism! Counterfactuals, “coulda shoulda wouldas” smack of inflationary metaphysics.

Not arguing but for a guy sure he’s not an nba worthy player how can you not know why?

Video has gone live. Think he's a better value pick than Hawkins in the lottery if you can get him in the late first/early 2nd.
He is very streaky but in some of his biggest games when he was counted on to shine…..he stunk. Hawkins theoughout the season was so much more reliable. I still think I like the upside of Strawther though with his height and rebounding. He has a decent floater game as well which Hawkins does not

I'm not saying he is better than hawkins. I know he isnt better. But would I rather draft Hawkins lottery or Strawther at 28? I'd probably go Strawther at 28.

I am fasting between meals that the Jazz don't drat Anthony Black. The Dude has low athleticism, terrible shooting form, and has bust written all over him. This guarantees he will get drafted by the Jazz. You can blame Hayward on me.

Has what I would consider to be the consensus top 11 players in his top 11.

Bufkin/Sissoko at 16/15 are two of his more different rankings. Has GG at 12. No Bilal in the top 30. Judah Mintz and Adem Bona are two of his late 20's guys that are a bit different than consensus.

This is probably the most I've aligned with a board to this point. Wallace at 6 was WILD to me, though. Maybe Walker at 8 was equally wild to others (not to me). I'd probably have GG below Keyonte, but I think he generally hit the 12-16 crop really well. Love that he had the stones to untrench Jett and NSJ and drop them in the mid-20's.

Also, I think Mintz is being slept on. Maybe like with WK where notions of what modern basketball is/should be gets out of wack with reality. As has been gone over to death by now, the idea that a 6' 3" PG is "small" is just divorced from reality. I don't even know the number of guards with pure point chops that are clearly bigger in the NBA, but I'm confident he is still in the top 50th percentile even if his official measurements come in a little below what's currently advertised. If the jumpshot comes along (it's currently fairly effective with workable form, good FT%, and overall great touch) I think he'll be a steal unless he rises a ton.

His athleticism is really good overall, but I agree that his burst is not that impressive. I also think his passing and reads are overrated. Just for example, Keyonte gets over his skis and Bufkin needs more development, but highlight to highlight, they look more impressive to me than Black. I know there is a lot more to the game than wow-factor (as Stockton should have taught us), but zip and flash create more options than more ho-hum stuff does.

There is a lot of upside with Black, though. He does have good feel, he does play hard, and he is big. That's enough that he goes and (probably) should be in the top-11 group. But TLDR; I agree that I would rather someone else take him.
