2023 NBA Draft Megathread

You could also swap Ochai/Dunn if the Mavs wanted that. I would also still consider it if it was just straight up adding Ochai. Important to note Bertans only has 1 fully guaranteed year left. Or the Jazz could add future picks to give the Mavs more firepower to make moves down the line. IDK. A lot of options.

Not really sure what the Jazz would be competing against.
I think there are options... 16 and just absorbing Bertans deal... 16 and a future pick. I think 28 is to far to trade back. I also wonder if a nickel and dime package might work if the wings and forwards are gone... so 16, 28 and we absorb McGee's deal type of thing. Not sure there is a straight deal where they get a player they really like for #10 so maybe splitting the baby a bit works.

Another trade up scenario is GS. I think 28 for 19 and absorbing GP2's salary saves like like $50m next year alone. Payton is a fine player but not sure he's worth what they are paying him.

Would the Jazz want to do anything to help the Mavs get better? Hollinger and Larsen said the Jazz are monitoring the Doncic situation closely and they have the assets to trade for him if he wants out. Maybe having Kyrie on the team will cause that by default no matter what we do lol

I think the #6 Orlando pick could be attainable. They are a few years away and might prefer 9, 11, and 16 instead of just 6 and 11

I like that one

A few mocks now have the Pacers taking Hendricks with the 7th pick it’s becoming a consensus.

That hope is disappearing fast.. *sad face*

I'm not a big draft or college ball guy so I'm not totally informed, but I'd love if the Jazz could figure out a way to get a Thompson. We had generally soft/small/unathletic teams in the Mitchell and Gobert era and have a real chance to turn that around. I saw a Tony Jones tweet yesterday that said Olynyk is a good bet to be in the starting lineup if we keep him. Thompson/Clarkson/Markkanen/Olynyk/Kessler would be an absolutely huge lineup. If we don't keep Clarkson, Sexton or Ochai could be in that spot.

My Mock Draft of what I think will happen (not what I would do).

1. Wemby
2. Scoot
3. Miller
4. Amen
5. Cam
6. Ausar
7. Jarace
8. Black
9. Wallace
10. Hendricks
11. Dick
12. Coulibaly
13. Miller
14. Hawkins
15. Brice
16. GG

Spinella and O’Connors mocks are identical from #4 - #12:

#4 Amen
Whitmore
Ausar
Hendricks
Black
#9 Wallace
Walker
Dick
Miller

It’s amazing how similar their mocks are…

For w/e reason they dont have the Mavs 2023 pick in the trade window, but it would be there.

I think this is a fair deal? Kris Dunn showed in limited games that he could be a spot-up threat if left open. Sexton gives the Mavs scoring. They get off Bertans contract and they still get a rookie at the end of the first round.
we can nitpick why he dropped but he wasn't a lead guard in college and couldn't play lead guard in the nba and that's a huge problem when you're 6'3" and that's why he shouldn't be compared to wallace in any way.
You or someone said he was selected in the second round because he was small. That’s only half right. If he hadn’t had the medicals he probably goes mid to lat teens or early 20’s due to his size. He dropped to the second round due to medical. He was clearly mocked as a first round player all draft process

I would be a bit upset that the jazz passed on Hedricks but ending up with Wallace and GG at 9 and 16 would be fine by me.

would it make sense to trade 16 and 28 to Brooklyn for 21 and 22? would Brooklyn do that that? various mocks have the following players available at 21:

GG
Leonard Miller
Sidy
Rupert
Bufkin
Hawkins
Sensabaugh
Podz
Bilal

All these are guys who many of us have in the conversation at 16. Granted they won't all be there at 21, but many of them will be just based on the numbers game. could be a situation where Ainge waits until the 16th pick comes up and depending on what his board looks like and who is available, maybe he gives brooklyn a call.

Ainge has a famous trade down with Tatum, but ultimately I think if he likes someone at 16 that "might" be there at 21 he would just take him at 16 even if it's seen as a reach. If he doesn't like anyone something like this could happen.

IMO, the most interesting trade up/down situation is with ORL. It's hard to know what they will do with #6. They don't have a clear positional need, but they have a massive skill need with shooting. The honestly really need Gradey Dick. I don't know if 9+16 for 6 makes sense trade value wise.

Why is everyone so excited to trade Lauri?

He's a STAR. A YOUNG STAR. Stop
I'm not excited to trade him, but IMO you have to consider it. There is difference between a star and a superstar. I guess it will depend on how certain you are that Scoot or Miller will be that...
