2023 NBA Combine Thread

Keyonte looking fresh and bouncy. I think he's starting to become underrated. He had an ankle injury towards the end of his season that seemed to affect his production. I could see him getting picked ahead of Cason Wallace and possibly Gradey Dick depending on how things shake out. He's going to be able to score the ball and create for himself. He should be able to guard 1s. The only question is his ability to be efficient.

Conversely (to Sidy), these dunks at least show some serious pop. He is getting close to eye-level in that first one. Shot is wet, movements are fluid, very confident with the ball and should be.

Keyonte jumps off the screen more than just about anyone. He might be in play at 9 for me if Hendricks/Whitmore aren’t there, tbh.

I think Keyonte is going to special. Right now he is number 1 on my board at 9.

I think I saw one or two games of his in the NCAA tournament. I don't think I was very impressed, but I might be mistaking him for someone else... What type of player do you see him as at the next level?

Keyonte was a consensus top-10 pick for a long time. Not sure what happened there.

He didn't make shots... I think everyone kept thinking the percentages would get better. I could see him being the guy in the 10-14 range that ends up being the steal if he develops and is more of a scoring pg. Still intriguing but I think Bufkin has the momentum on him atm.

He got injured, had some ugly games to finish the season. Got injured versus Texas and finished the season shooting 9/40. I don't think it should have dropped him 10 spots.

Keyonte wasn't very efficient, but compared to someone like GG he was like Curry. I also think he shows flashes in the other parts of his game. He's a tough, physical player. Doesn't get to the rim as much as you'd like but does get to the free throw line. His playmaking is hit or miss, but not absent. There's a framework there for him to hit a high ceiling. But if it doesn't all come together I think he will still be a bomber from 3.

If he falls to 16 that's a bet I'd love to take.

He sucked down the stretch and/but was some level of injured. Either way, the dude is obviously crazy talented and needs to reign in his shot selection.

Not a rumor, he had to leave the Texas with an ankle injury. Whether it's a valid excuse for his poor finish? Honestly I don't care. If this struggle had happened in the middle of the season and he played well at the end instead no one would bat an eye. I do think he's a victim of recentcy bias. He may have deserved to drop a bit and maybe should not have been ranked top 8 all year, but sliding to 16 and beyond is too far of a drop.

He might have the most promising off the dribble 3 in the class, and that is THE premium skill for ball handlers. His playmaking might not be where you want it to be, especially as a lead guard, but to some extent the playmaking only matters if you can be a threat to the defense. If you can hit the pullup 3 the rest of the game gets so much easier. I will take the guy who can take and make the three off the dribble over the guy with better passing skills but can't shoot so the defense just goes under the pick.

And if he can't be a bit time shooter off the dribble.....he's a Malik Beasley? It's not the worst thing in the world.

yep. not only did he not get better, rather he just kept getting worse. hard to know how much of it is injury related. if you take keyonte, you take him based on what he showed in the first half the season and hope his horrible play in the last 1/3 of the season was either just a bad stretch/slump or directly related to his injury.

He had an ankle or foot injury that he was dealing with for the last month or so of the season but wanted to play through it and didn't look good at all. I think he can be the type of player Eric Gordon was starting to become his last year with the clips before the CP trade. I thought he was on his way to becoming a star but hurt his knee right away when he got to New Orleans and then kept getting dinged up non stop for the next 4 years. That 3rd year version of Eric Gordon though was really good.

I really think he is going to dominate with the extra spacing that he gets in the nba. His issue in college was that he took way too many tough and contested shots but in the nba those are going to end up being cleaner looks a lot of time and I don't think he was truly able to show off the dribble game to attack the basket since the paint gets so clogged in college. In the nba teams are going to have to close out on him hard with his shooting ability so I would expect him to get to the basket a lot more. Prior to that posted video I didn't view him as overly explosive but he is effortlessly getting up there on those dunks.
